Wuhan Institute of Virology Researcher Claims Novel Coronavirus was a “Bioweapon”

Recent report from Director of National Intelligencereveals Wuhan Institute ‘collaborated’ with Chinese military on coronavirus experiments in years preceding the pandemic.

Legal Insurrection has shared reports about investigations that covid “patients zero” were Chinese researchers associated with bat coronavirus research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV). The findings indicate a combination of poor safety practices and arrogant research decisions seems to be the likely origins of the pandemic.

Now a WIV researcher is claiming that China deliberately engineered the coronavirus virus as a “bioweapon.” The assertions were made during an interview conducted by Chinese-born human rights activist Jennifer Zeng, a member of the International Press Association.

Researcher Chao Shao asserts that the virus was deliberately engineered by China as a “bioweapon,” and that his colleagues were tasked with identifying the most effective strain for spreading among various species, including people.

During the exclusive 26-minute interview, Chao Shao shared an anecdote involving another researcher named Shan Chao, who allegedly admitted to being provided with four strains of coronavirus by a superior.

Shan Chao was instructed to test these strains and determine which one had the greatest potential to infect multiple species, with a particular emphasis on human infectivity.

Chao Shan also asserted that the Chinese took advantage of the 2019 Military World Games to spread the virus.

He further mentioned that several of his colleagues had gone missing during the 2019 Military World Games held in Wuhan. One of the missing researchers later disclosed that they were sent to hotels accommodating athletes from different countries to “inspect health and hygiene conditions.” Chao Shao suspected that their real purpose was to spread the virus, as checking hygiene conditions did not require virologists.

I covered the 2021 report published by the Republican members of the House Foreign Affairs Committee about the origins of the SARS-Cov-2 pathogen and the point source of the pandemic. The 2019 World Military Games were a significant part of the pandemic timeline that the committee created.

The 7th International Military Sports Council Military World Games (MWGs) opened in Wuhan on October 18, 2019. The MWGs in Wuhan drew 9,308 athletes, representing 109 countries, to compete in 329 events across 27 sports. Many of the participating athletes fell ill with various flu-like complaints. Here is a glimpse of the sick athletes and their location in the hospitals…now seeing ill patients.

Evidence from Brazil, Italy, France, and Sweden indicate that the virus circulated in those countries by November and December of 2019, long before China officially admitted they had a significant public health problem. This was likely the global “super-spreader event.” China tried to blame Italy for the virus at one point.

Interestingly, this last Friday, the Director of National Intelligence (DNI) dropped a very brief report on the origins of the pandemic, which seemed very weak in light of the revelations of the recent investigative reports. In fact, the opening Executive Summary seems extremely tepid.

“This report does not address the merits of the two most likely pandemic origins hypotheses, nor does it explore other biological facilities in Wuhan other than the WIV,”

However, the report does note that WIV “collaborated” with the Chinese military on coronavirus experiments in the two years previous to the covid pandemic.

The WIV is a civilian research institute founded in the 1950s by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). Although the WIV is independent of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), the IC assesses that WIV personnel have worked with scientists associated with the PLA on public health-related research and collaborated on biosafety and biosecurity projects.

Information available to the IC indicates that some of the research conducted by the PLA and WIV included work with several viruses, including coronaviruses, but no known viruses that could plausibly be a progenitor of SARS-CoV-2. For example, PLA researchers have used WIV laboratories for virology and vaccine-related work.

  • Between 2017 and 2019, the WIV funded and some of its personnel conducted research projects to enhance China’s knowledge of pathogens and early disease warning capabilities for defensive and biosecurity needs of the military.
  • Prior to collaborating on a vaccine for SARS-CoV-2, the WIV collaborated with the PLA on other vaccine and therapeutics relevant to
coronaviruses. The IC assesses that this work was intended for public health needs and that the coronaviruses known to be used were too distantly related to have led to the creation of SARS-CoV-2.

Much of the rest of the report seems an attempt to refute the previous investigative articles. For example, the analysis indicates the scientists who fell ill had symptoms “inconsistent” with covid. The DNI analysis also stated, “The IC [Intelligence Community] has no information, however, indicating that any WIV genetic engineering work has involved SARS-CoV-2.”

Yet, as I have covered in previous reports, the covid virus Furin Cleavage Site (FCS) is very suggestive of genetic modification of the coronavirus, as a very small chunk of coronavirus changed in the only area that would impact transmissibility to humans.

We will never know the entire history of the pandemic origins with certainty.  However, given the Bidens’ connections to China, I would not be surprised if there are more robust attempts to undermine the findings dug up by investigative reporters from the review of the materials that have been declassified.  Be prepared for more pangolins and raccoon dogs in the news!

Gain of function, my eye. If it was a bioweapon, they were working on loss of function, not gain of function.

You have a fundamental misunderstanding of what these terms mean in Genetics.

Gain-of-function research means introducing mutations that increase the functionality (in this case virulence) of the target.

Loss-of-function research means introducing mutations that weaken or disrupt an otherwise working function of the target.

Loss-of-function research models are often called “knock-outs” because a gene is disrupted to be non-functional and thus effectively ‘knocked out’ of the organism’s genome.

Gain-of-function research models are often called “knock-ins” for the reverse reason.

Are you saying they were working to make a virus function better so that if I caught it, it would make my body function worse?

TheOldZombie in reply to Paula. | June 30, 2023 at 4:12 pm

Yes. Gain of function research is dangerous. Scientists are taking viruses and working to make them stronger. Scientists state their goal isn’t hurt people but make it easier for them to study the virus. The end result however is that there always exist a possibility that the new strain they’ve developed will get loose and lots more people will get sick and die as compared to the original strain.

It is widely believed that Covid-19 was a virus being worked on in the Chinese Wuhan lab and it got loose.

Yes. Whenever you hear “gain of function,” mentally replace it with “weaponization,” and you will understand the sentence.
Same as you would for “social justice,” “gender-affirming,” or “women’s health.”

healthguyfsu in reply to Paula. | July 1, 2023 at 3:23 am

        In short, yes.

Basically, the gain or loss refers to the functionality of the organism whose genome is being manipulated, not a potential prey/host/etc that the organism may act upon.

To use a comic book analogy (Wolverine), gain-of-function would be how one turns Logan into Weapon X through genetic manipulation of his healing processes. This mutant ability is a gain because he has superhuman survivability. This allowed him to survive adamantium grafts onto his bones, a procedure that would easily kill a “wild type” human being.

Wolverine would be referred to as a subject of gain-of-function research even though most of his opponents likely had loss-of-function when he sliced them up.

With respect to China, a lot seems to be related to gain of function of Biden family finances.

China most certainly used it as a bioweapon. Even if release was an accident, China’s actions after the release are damning. In my opinion America should shift to a war footing, use unrestricted warfare just like China, and systematically return manufacturing to America or allies. Cutting China’s cash flow is the best way to avoid outright war. Cripple their economy.

I’ve been saying that since October 2020. No report needed.

Joint effort between the CCP and the Democrats. I doubt the truth will ever be revealed, JFK still defies the explanation.

So we went from a wet market we all know was BS to yea in fact we are attempting to kill you and you footing the bill.

I believe they were working on Covid and it got loose from the lab. They are sloppy like all dictatorships.

In 1996 Qiao Liang and Wang Xianghui, both senior Chinese Air Force Colonels, wrote a strategy on how to fight a war against the United States. China like the rest of the world saw what we did in the Gulf War and understood that going toe-to-toe with the US was probably an invitation to military disaster.

Their idea was “warfare beyond all boundaries and limitations.”

Part of that was biological warfare. Not to wipe us out but to hobble us in a war. Imagine Covid-19, or something stronger, during a war with China being released into America.

The Chinese will not respect any of the so called rules of war in an actual war. They view that stuff as “Western” thinking.

We should expect a biological attack but also attacks from Chinese agents within the United States. There have been reports for years of Chinese nationals coming across the southern border. We know China is in league with the cartels because of Fentanyl. Who knows what else has crossed the border into America.

There is evidence of intentional release. We need to rebuild America’s industrial sector on a crash basis.

While I agree in principle, replicating Taiwan might take decades. IMO losing their output would be the biggest disaster and, with such weak US leadership, it is not unlikely that China acts while Biden is in office (rather like Putin did).

No s*** Sherlock. Anyone dumb enough to think otherwise would have to be a Biden voter

Tucker Carlson interviewed a fact witness who stated it was developed as a weopon, and released intentionally.

I’ve only skimmed the “executive summary.”

Is the report a piece of disinformation – in fact – written for public dissemination? Leslie notes “Much of the rest of the report seems an attempt to refute the previous investigative articles,” which trigger’s my internal alarms.

I’ve not read deeply into the subject; from the beginning it was patently obvious Covid was a bioweapon. So I’ve not followed the how and why’s.

But Leslie has followed it closely. I trust her judgement on Covid related news. Which leads me to the notion this report is part of a mis/dis info campaign.

A side note. The report underscores that in 1950’s the WIV operated independent of the PLA. I’m thinking WIV was subordinate to PLA – not co-equal branches of Mao’s dictatorship; that the report is inferring some sort of demarcation between the two is … curious. Why underscore such a thing? Top flight scientists were only just tolerated, though given good lodgings, they wielded no power.

I guess the underscore is meant to cushion or blow-down the current (and true) idea that Covid was always a military program and not a well intentioned and pure scientific inquiry for the sake of Science.

I read that China was buying from any nation that was selling, masks BEFORE Covid was officially announced. Another thing to consider is when was the last time China did anything that could remotely be called benevolent? Remember back when some small nation had either an earthquake or tsunami and every nation pitched in except China? The CCP does only what will help it attain its goal of world dominance. Why hasn’t the Western world stopped trade with China? If China had dropped bombs on every nation they wouldn’t have killed as many as they did with their evil release of the Covid virus. Remember their travel policy that allowed citizens of Wu Han to travel internationally but not domestically? That is the same as the Olympic plot to spread it throughout the world. Hitler was bad and thank God he hadn’t discovered this virus but the CCP is even worse because they experimented with all of us knowing how deadly it was..

All of what you say is true.

“every nation pitched in except China.” I think it was the tsunami that hit Thailand 2006. Historically China and the Chinese never engaged in charity as we know it here in the West. And it’s not just the CCP. The emperors through to the Kuomintang simply never cared. Madame Chiang Kai-shek faked up twenty orphanages to sate the US Missionary lobby, it was always a sham. That current Taiwanese government turn a blind eye to it is telling.

It’s like we’re assembling a picture puzzle with all of this information; not a flow chart. A piece falls into place and the whole picture clarifies. It clicks.

“their travel policy that allowed citizens of Wu Han to travel internationally“

Infected Chinese textile workers from Milan, Italy on leave in China for the Lunar new year celebrations were allowed to return to Italy.

    “Click”

And judging from something I’ve read in several places recently, today in Jeff Childers substack, the vaccine is a different type of bio-weapon. If, as the numbers seem to suggest, a very large percentage of the shots were simply placebos, it explains several things. One, why the vaccine side effects seem to appear in clusters- a whole bunch in one area got the same batch. And two- why the vaccine didn’t work- and getting the shot didn’t keep you from getting covid. Because it was never intended to work.

The next question of course is- Why? Followed by Who?

The US, and the rest of the nations that were adversely affected by COVID, should file a claim against China with the World Court in the Hague. Damages sought should be in the trillions. Let’s get discovery going!

RFK Jr. says that the NIH gets half the profits that big pharma made on the vaccines. The NIH doesn’t invent anything, but they require pharma to put their names on the patents so the NIH gets royalties. Pharma does it to get the vaccine approved. The NIH probably made more than $100 billion on covid vaccines.

The study that put the nail in the coffin (for me) concerning the engineering of the virus was this: https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2022.10.18.512756v2
