Daily Beast Editor Calling Casey DeSantis the ‘Walmart Melania’ Shows She’s Relatable

Daily Beast Editor Calling Casey DeSantis the ‘Walmart Melania’ Shows She’s Relatable

Katie Baker called Casey the “Sunshine State Lady Macbeth.” I think the lady doth protests too much. (Yes I know that’s from Hamlet but it applies!)

Daily Beast executive editor Katie Baker is a real piece of work with her attack piece on Florida First Lady Casey DeSantis.

“Sunshine State Lady Macbeth.”

No, Katie. In your effort to get attention, you showed us why regular people find DeSantis relatable and what the elites truly think about the working class.

DeSantis’s jacket triggered Katie. This jacket is why Katie went ballistic.

“The First Lady of Florida showed up on the campaign trail in Iowa this weekend wearing a ghastly black leather jacket—American flag on front, an alligator and the silhouette of her state on the back, with the sneering words, ‘Where Woke Goes to Die’—that brought to mind nothing so much as the racks of a Red State big-bin store where it would be retailing for $24.99,” wrote Baker.

That’s Baker’s introduction sentence. It sets the tone for the rest of her piece: leftist elitism, sneering at plebes, intense DeSantis and Trump Deranged Syndrome, and hyperbole-filled lies.

How dare you shop at Walmart. No one who has an ounce of dignity shops at Walmart or bargain stores! I love how she acts that only people in the Red States shop at Walmart.

Only the poors shop at Walmart. Only the poors live in Red States.

Facts for Baker: People in every state shop at Walmart. I refuse to believe Baker has never shopped at Walmart.

You can thank Biden’s economy. I know I’ve upped my shopping at Walmart because of the economy. You can thank Target, too. I bet more people have been shopping at Walmart because of that fiasco.

Speaking of which…I need to place my Walmart order. Thanks, Katie!

So, in other words, Baker’s Walmart attack on DeSantis makes her relatable to the common people.

But it doesn’t stop there. Katie used Casey as a vehicle to her final destination: Ron and Casey DeSantis.

Unfortunately for Katie, her piece shines a positive light on Ron and Casey DeSantis.

Katie described the jacket as crude and grasping.

In fact, Katie defined her article: crude and grasping.

You guys:

Florida under DeSantis has had one of the highest COVID death rates in the nation, even as he’s exulted in his anti-mask policies. And as the governor whips up anti-LGBT sentiment and bans books on race, Casey’s jacket and its message of death also bring to mind the horrific Pulse nightclub mass shooting in Orlando, not to mention the state’s shameful history of Jim Crow-era lynch mobs and the Rosewood massacre. But of course, DeSantis and his cronies want to prevent kids from learning about any of that by censoring their library books and AP curricula.

The jacket, then, is a warning: Watch out, America.

Holy moly. The unhinged ramblings of an elitist leftist who lies through her teeth because we’re obviously too stupid to know or Google the truth.

  • 1. Florida had a high COVID death rate because the state has the third highest population in the country, including the highest population of elderly people. The population grew due to the COVID pandemic because DeSantis didn’t deprive the citizens of their freedom.
  • 2. The shooter of the Orlando nightclub massacre swore allegiance to ISIS, dude. It had nothing to do with Republicans or the war against Woke. THE GUNMAN CHOSE THE NIGHTCLUB AT RANDOM, KATIE.
  • 3. Florida is obviously the only southern state that had Jim Crow laws and attacks on blacks. Dude, Chicago was one of the most racist places after the Civil War.

What did Martin Luther King, Jr., say about Chicago in 1965? “If we can break the system in Chicago, it can be broken any place in the country.”

LOL. Then Katie brings up JFK and Jackie because they had such a great relationship, right? Oh, the elegance of Camelot, which masked a frustrated and unhappy marriage filled with infidelities and lies. As far as I know, Ron and Casey have a loving relationship, devoted to one another. Good Lord:

But while Casey may be trying to position herself after Jackie Kennedy (good luck) and even Melania, if this weekend is any indication, she’s falling far short. It doesn’t matter how many times she wears that ice-blue Badgley Mischka cape-dress. The DeSantis’ will never be Camelot. Jackie and JFK symbolized the opposite of vulgar pettiness—they embodied youth, energy, a commitment to moral progress in the struggle for Civil Rights, a country fresh with idealism. Not an America that was obsessed with banning books about male seahorses and rainbows, or nuking the latest Disney movie.

There it is! Book banning and going after Disney.

Lady…DeSantis is not banning books. God forbid schools only provide children with age-appropriate books not filled with sexual and adult situations.

When did DeSantis nuke a Disney movie? Holy cow hyperbole.

Yes, Baker called Casey the “Sunshine State Lady Macbeth”:

Still, as they appear on the campaign trail, we are seeing clues to who the DeSantis’ are at heart. We’ve got a Sunshine State Lady Macbeth, in her green cape and white gloves, with her middling husband and her thirst for the crown—and we’ve got a guy [Trump] who wants to be sitting in a corner, mumbling about the Federalist Papers and gobbling pudding off his fingers.

Macbeth is my specialty. To call someone Lady Macbeth implies she’s the power behind the man who is forcing her husband to perform evil deeds.

Okay, lady. You want to go there? Hillary Clinton made it known she wanted to be co-president with her husband in the 1990s. Hillary wanted to be the president and be in charge.

I won’t put Michelle Obama on Hillary’s level, but she made her presence known. She didn’t interfere with President Obama as Hillary did with Bill, but she was more upfront than Nancy Reagan, Barbara Bush, Laura Bush, and Melania.

I about puked with the gushing over Michelle Obama and Jill Biden. I won’t repeat it. Too much for a Monday morning.

The left is scared.

You got your attention, Katie. Too bad it backfired. LOL.

Earth to Katie Baker: Jim Crow laws were instituted by DEMONCRATS, or is your mental half-life so short that you’ve forgotten that little itty-bitty fact?

I doubt she’s old enough to even have read recent news clippings of Civil Rights marches and such. It’s likely she wasn’t even alive when Reagan was shot, and sure as heck not when Kennedy was. Her mental half-life would be waaaay short of Jim Crow laws.

They were written and enforced by Democrats against Black people and any business owner who wished to serve everyone equally.

I didn’t think it possible to dislike a group of people more thoroughly with every passing day.
Each sunrise brings an escalation of that emotion.

I don’t think there is a ceiling to that dislike.

I just wrote on The American Thinker that if the internet sites didn’t write about these stupid people, no one but the handful of their readers would ever know what they say. I simply do not care what she writes and it is so childish that it doesn’t deserve a review by a great site like this.

    Yep. Completely.

It’s always a good idea to keep gathering information on how your opposition thinks.

Gathering and disseminating are not the same, however.

CommoChief in reply to oldschooltwentysix. | June 5, 2023 at 4:50 pm

No they aren’t though if the information is not disseminated then you want me to do what? Seems that leaves us two options; Remain ignorant of the woke lefty intentions, statements and actions or I devote 24 hours of every day to do my own research and investigate every lefty academic, bureaucrat and office holders public statements, social media, speeches, policy proposals, draft legislation and so on.

Seems much easier to have folks do much of that research and investigation for us, curate the truly important and disseminate the information. Then we select from among the many, many sources of information those which have proven to be reliable over time while ignoring the grifters and con artists.

There are more than two options, however. It’s doubful that you would be ignorant if the hateful story never appeared. Did you actually learn anything here? Why is it important to publicize yet another screed? That is the problem. All sides get something, but we are all the worse off.

CommoChief in reply to CommoChief. | June 6, 2023 at 1:45 pm

Sure. I learned MS Baker seems both catty and condescending by offering up this troupe. Now I can see if other figure pick up the troupe and attempt to wield as well.

There are several lines of attack v DeSantis being used by his opponents which were ginned up by d/prog, the Lincoln project goons or the cruise ship refugees and amplifier by legacy media.

It’s always good to see the origins of the lines of attack during a campaign. That way we can see which candidates choose to align themselves with the originator by using them against an opponent.

You are free to take your ball and go home if you don’t like the content.

Or start your own site and publish what you want.

In the meantime, the rest of us will enjoy reading about the absurdity of the left, treating it with the derision it deserves, and appreciating the warning of what passes through these indoctrination camps and cliques.

FWIW, the “effort to get attention” apparently worked. These are things that pundits, talking heads and junkies obsess about. Most people don’t care about either side’s obession, and frankly, neither should we. It’s not like making attacks against political spouses, particularly Republican spouses, is any more unusual than dog bites man. It changes little, if anything, other than the waistlines of the obsessed in the wrong direction. More white noise until the next effective “effort to get attention” aka clickbait for the lovers and the haters.

Obviously, Walmart prices in Chicago, San Francisco, and other blue bastions, are TOO HIGH even for liberals since they rely so heavily on theft to acquire what they need.

I believe Casey wore a leather jacket because they were at a biker rally and she thought it was appropriate. As for the bargain bin cheap reference I guess the angry leftist never had to wear hand me downs and paying $30 for a winter coat was luxury we couldn’t dream of affording

Just when you think that the vile Dumb-o-crat media lapdogs/lackeys/trained seals/sycophants/propagandists can’t stoop to lower levels of infantilism, stupidity and maliciousness, these dopes manage to surprise you.

Such a predictable leftist reaction. I think there were some who doubted she had cancer.

I don’t recall the odious, phony, middle-class poseur/poser, Michelle Obama, receiving anything but fawning plaudits and hosannas from the mainstream media prostitutes, when she made her contrived, photo op visit to a Target store in Virginia (while disguised in sunglasses and a baseball cap), in order to cosplay as an alleged working-class mom.

This was the same visit at which Obama falsely accused an elderly white woman shopper of alleged racism for treating her as the hired help, by asking the tall Obama’s assistance in reaching an item situated on a high shelf. Obama obliged, playing the encounter for laughs and as a “feel-good” moment on late-night TV, as an example of her alleged magnanimity in helping a member of the peasant rabble. Obama then falsely accused the woman of being racist, in a puff piece Vogue magazine article, one year later that re-cast this innocuous encounter in a contrived, allegedly malicious light.

they embodied youth, energy, a commitment to moral progress in the struggle for Civil Rights
Yes, they embodied that – and it was all lies.

This woman doesn’t realize that she is a believer in the Progressive religion and that all of her parables and myths are just that: fiction.

BTW, I thought the jacket looked … meh. It looked like something she had never worn before and would seldom wear again. It seemed like pandering. But that’s standard for any politician and his wife/her husband.

The class divide is real. It shows up in polling data. The overly credentialed laptop class has a complete disdain for those who work outside or with their hands. As for those of us who live in a rural area of a Red State….we are foreign to them for the most part.

The amusing part is that many of these bicoastal folks who look down on the rest of the Nation are far more provincial in their thinking and life experience than the rest of us. They go to prep school, get an Ivy admission due to legacy status then coast on that CV never leaving their comfortable, insular bubble.

Fat_Freddys_Cat | June 5, 2023 at 2:20 pm

This reminds me of when Bill Clinton flack James Carville mocked Clinton’s accusers re: his rapes and sexual harassment by saying “Drag a Hundred-Dollar Bill Through a Trailer Park, You Never Know What You’ll Find.”

The bastard. I had kinfolk and friends who lived in trailer parks and they were good folk, just not as rich as political grifters like Carville.

Casey is relatable. Melania is relatable.

No diversity: no color judgments, no class-based bigotry.

the first lady of florida is a cancer survivor, a woman of true character and strength–doubt she gives the remotest damn what katie baker / her ilk think or feel about anything

not_a_lawyer | June 5, 2023 at 3:11 pm

Florida was unpopulated until the development of HVAC in the sixties.

To be sure, there were people living there, but the population was negligible.

It was simply too hot and swampy for the development of civilization.

The highest point in Florida is 125′. I have never been to Florida and have no desire to impugn the people that live there. On the contrary. I wish only that they are happy and healthy and do their part to contribute to society. I like Ron DeSantis, and have no idea what his wife has to say. His wife’s assertions are immaterial to me.

I will speak my mind on the ‘Reedy’ development. I invite all readers to clarify my understanding by pointing out the truth, which is my highest desire.

Florida gave Disney operational control of the ‘Reedy’ area because it was worthless at the time. It was a swamp, a bog, with no value. The FLA government effectively said, “If you transform this swamp into a productive area, we will allow you to maintain operational control over it. And then we will tax you.” This is not an attempt to vilify the FLA government. It is merely a representation of what I see as truth.

I am an engineer. Many readers do not understand the effort required to turn a swamp into a productive area. A barrier must be constructed to separate the area from the ocean. The land must be drained of water. Thousands of tons of dirt must be imported to fill the bogs and make it possible to construct buildings. All of this effort requires many millions of dollars, All of this work must be done prior to any hope of making a return on the investment.

Perhaps some readers have read about Detroit area homes that are for sale by the Detroit government for $5. The Detroit government does this with the expectation that these homes will eventually be turned into taxpaying properties.

Disney did this. They turned a portion of the Orlando area from a swamp to a productive area that provides a tax base for the FLA government. That is why they got a ‘special deal’ from the FLA government. Please correct me, for I have no deep understanding of the issue. The deal should have had a time limit. Disney should not have been granted this ‘special deal’ in perpetuity, and I believe that Gov. DeSantis was well within his power to cancel this ‘special privilege’.

This is not to say that I believe that Disney is in the right for complaining about the loss of their ‘special privilege’. It is my opinion that Disney has been captured by the LGBT community. I have nothing against the LGB community, but the T must go to hell where they belong.

Any parent, guardian, or doctor who engages in any action that results in the sterilization of a minor, should be imprisoned for the rest of their life.

Leave the kids alone.

My family has happily lived in the “unpopulated” state of Florida for over 200 years.

Engineer farking yourself, and the horse you rode in on.

    diver64 in reply to not_a_lawyer. | June 6, 2023 at 4:14 am

    First sentence “Florida was unpopulated…”
Second sentence “To be sure, there were people living there…”
In 1960 Florida had the highest state population in the SE including VA andNC. In fact, it had a higher population than any state west of Texas-North Dakota except California.

      diver64 in reply to diver64. | June 6, 2023 at 4:28 am

I should clarify. Florida had a higher population than any state to the west-northwest of it except Texas and California in 1960. Roughly, Illinois westward.

not_a_lawyer | June 5, 2023 at 6:56 pm

I am willing to stand corrected.

I do not understand what ‘fark’ is.

If you think that I wish to impugn the residents of FLA, you are incorrect. I respect your ancestors and the work they did to make FLA a hospitable place to live.

You must acknowledge that FLA is a swamp. It was uninhabitable, except by the hardiest of people, like your ancestors, Look at a map. Only the panhandle and the coastlines are inhabitable. A large fraction of land in FLA is Lake Okeechobee. a swamp.

Please correct me if I am wrong. Are there large cities in the interior of FLA?

Someone please explain to me where my argument is wrong, and I will willingly and vociferously acknowledge my error. As a matter of fact, my monicker is a play on words, Erroneous. It is that way for a reason.

I want to be corrected in my understanding. Someone please educate me.

Erronius

I have vague memory of historical documentaries and opinion pieces with similar observations and conclusions about Florida as you have expressed above. The constant, that makes it uninhabitable for my money, is hurricane season. Then again, Floridians probably think I’m bat$h!t crazy for living on the Cascade fault, within a 30 mile radius of 3 nuclear strike targets, and not far from 5+ volcanoes due for a spewing. In fact, down the hill from where I live, they worry about liquifaction if ever the big one hits. There’s a 5-10 mile strip of land between the Strait and the north flanks of the Olympic range. People with wells have found a layer of fresh water – go too deep, it’s salt water – or so I’m told. Roads are all marked with Tsunami evacuation routes – instructions. Reckon I appreciate a variety of things that could kill me here – unlike FL where death by hurricane is most likely.

What makes FL attractive to me, is the politics. Wife was scheduled for surgery in Seattle to deal with a severe chronic pain issue and Gov. cancelled all electives state-wide for Omicron surge. I said “BS” and booked her into a surgical facility in Tampa just 3 weeks later – when WA hospital started calling to say “whoops – we over-reacted”. I’m genuinely grateful RdS had the stones to say no to the madness and keep medical services open. We were truly desperate for the surgery that relieved her pain. Wish we’d had time to enjoy Tampa a bit – it was February and nasty in Seattle at the time.

PS – have you ever seen the 1986 Harrison Ford movie “The Mosquito Coast”?

I agree overall with your post except the “Florida is a swamp” part which is a broad overgeneralization.

    alien in reply to not_a_lawyer. | June 6, 2023 at 9:04 am

What’s a “large” city? FL has no cities with a population exceeding a million. There are only 22 cities total with a population over 100,000.

In the interior (and the Panhandle, which is mostly coastal), we have Orlando (312,000), Tallahassee (198,000), Gainesville (141,000), and Lakeland (121,000).

Most of FL’s population lives along the coastlines because FL has the most coastline of any contiguous state.

You could probably thank Carrier (Willis Haviland Carrier) for Florida’s population explosion following the Depression and World War II.

The whole story of powered air conditioning is interesting, and many can claim to have had a part in inventing/developing it, but without it you would not find living in Florida during the high-humidity days very pleasant. And interestingly, Carrier, credited by many as the father of modern air conditioning, was looking for a solution to a different problem when he first developed the device in 1902 in Brooklyn — he wanted a dehumidifier to solve a problem with printing (something about the effect of high humidity on ink and paper).

What he created did remove water from the air, and as a side effect also lowered the temperature in the room itself. After the War (and the ending of the depression), more capital was freed for investment, the serendipitous effect of the dehumidifier was explored, and the air conditioner boom developed.

And the effect on Florida, as they say, is history.

(At least, that’s how I heard it.)
