Charges Dropped Against Jordan Williams, NYC Man Accused in Stabbing Death of Homeless Man on Subway

“Under New York law, a person is justified in using deadly physical force when they reasonably believe it is necessary to use such force to defend themselves or others from imminent use of deadly or unlawful physical force”

Jordan Williams is a young man who was riding the subway in New York when a homeless man threatened him and his girlfriend. Williams stabbed the man, who later died of the injuries.

Williams was initially charged with manslaughter, but the charges have been dropped.

NBC News reports:

Charges dropped against NYC man accused in fatal subway stabbing

Jordan Williams, the 20-year-old man who was accused of fatally stabbing a New York City subway rider, will avoid prosecution, city officials said Wednesday.

A grand jury declined to indict Williams on manslaughter and weapons charges in connection with the June 13 deadly stabbing of Devictor Quedraogo, 36, on a Brooklyn J train.

Quedraogo was alleged to have punched Williams’ girlfriend and harassed other passengers.

“Our office conducted an impartial and thorough investigation of this tragic case, which included review of multiple videos and interviews with all available witnesses, and that evidence was fairly presented to a grand jury,” a statement from the Brooklyn District Attorney’s office said. “Today, the charges against Jordan Williams have been dismissed.”

Williams was arrested following the incident earlier this month, with his attorney, Jason Goldman, previously saying that his client had acted in self-defense.

The grand jury appeared to agree.

“Under New York law, a person is justified in using deadly physical force when they reasonably believe it is necessary to use such force to defend themselves or others from imminent use of deadly or unlawful physical force,” the DA’s office said in its statement.

It is impossible to hear this and not think of Daniel Penny, who is being charged in a similar case.

It’s possible that there are differences here. A different area, a different prosecutor, but still. It points directly to the idea of a two-tiered justice system.

Jordan Williams’ own mother compared the two cases.

The New York Post reported:

Mother of J train stabber compares son to Daniel Penny, starts legal defense fund

The mother of the man accused of fatally stabbing an ex-con who attacked his girlfriend on a J Train this week compared the young man to Daniel Penny, as she has started an online fundraiser for his legal defense.

Jordan Williams, 20, was justified when he knifed Devictor Ouedraogo on a Brooklyn subway Tuesday night because he was defending other straphangers from “danger which was already taking place,” his mom, April Williams, wrote on a GiveSendGo fundraiser she created.

Then she invoked Penny, the 24-year-old former Marine who was indicted for killing troubled homeless man Jordan Neely after Neely allegedly threatened other passengers on an F train in Manhattan last month.

“Simply stated, these cases have become all too familiar in NYC, and this situation resembles that of Daniel Penny – who is out on bail and able to defend himself freely,” she wrote. “We just pray for that same opportunity!”

Glad to see that the two tiered system of government extends to the little people.

Of course, this decision, in light of Penny’s, is completely racist on its face.

The law can work in this case without causing a riot. It can’t in Perry’s case.

When are people who should know better going to stop using the term “former Marine”? I know many jarheads, and “former” is not an option. They will proudly proclaim that there is no such thing, only Marines. Some may go to inactive status, or retired, or whatever, but they remain Marines.

This from a former dog-face Army guy…. so this is an outside opinion.

I’m glad that he’s free from prosecution.

Now here’s the but…. Yes, the dead guy was harassing people and punched Williams girlfriend but I’m not seeing how that rises to the level you can justifiably use deadly force.

If that’s the new standard in New York that you can use deadly force in such a situation I think there’s going to be a lot more dead people and the charges against Penny should certainly be dismissed. Not that I mind the new standard but I think this standard is only applied to certain cases. Like Williams. A person like Penny would not get that standard.

Also I think the DA took it to the Grand Jury and that jury knowing about the Penny case let this one go. If the DA really wanted to charge Williams they would have gotten the charges to stick.

We don’t have a “two-tiered” justice system : we have NO justice system. It’s all rigged.

So Black guy pulls out a hidden weapon, kills a man who was annoying his girlfriend, and NYC drops charges.

Penny chokes out a drug using homeless guy who is harassing passengers and saying he doesn’t care if he dies, is charged like Williams, but charges are not dropped.

What differences are there other than the races of those charged, and that Williams was carrying an unlawful dangerous concealed weapon?

It seems like charges got dropped against the wrong person.

Just like that “White cop” in Minnesota

Can’t have “White peoples” killing black peoples now can we?

He wasn’t just ANNOYING the girlfriend, he punched her. Given the disparity of force, it was a deadly force attack, and because people can’t simply exit a train car when attacked, the stabbing seems justified

Does a single punch rise up to the level of justifying deadly force?

That’s quite a gamble if you’re the one using the deadly force to protect yourself or someone else from a punch.

Williams is black. Penny is not. That’s all you need to know.

As bad as that sounds you are completely right. Look at the Capital cop who killed Ashili Babbit. He was black and she was white. She was unarmed and a threat to no one, he fired blindly into a crowd. He was hailed a hero! He is a murderer!

“Under New York law, a person is justified in using deadly physical force when they reasonably believe it is necessary to use such force to defend themselves or others from imminent use of deadly or unlawful physical force”

Yeah, it’s all so clear and by the same book as all the other states… until the defendant is white.

Sounds a lot like a Jim Snow city, don’t it?

The difference between this and the Penny case are black and white.

Fat_Freddys_Cat | June 30, 2023 at 8:50 am

I suspect the Left–at least the AWFLs–wishes Williams had been charged. They don’t want anyone defending themselves, ever. But they don’t dare anger the minorities. If the minorities figure out what’s going on they will leave the plantation.

Quite the contrast between the indictment of Penny and the dropping of charges in the case of Williams, is there not?
Could we hazard that racism is the cause of such disparity in outcomes, since both were acting in response to verbal and physical harassment and provocations, and in both cases the end result was the death of the instigator of the threats.
Two tiers of Justice??
Most blatantly so, and this is not meant to denigrate Williams, but maybe Penny should have used a knife!

I am sure he meant nothing by it. But just imagine the young man were white and told the interviewer that his trauma for having had to kill someone in self defense was especially terrible because he had to kill a white man. “If you know what I mean.”
