“This Is A Stunt” – NAACP Issues “Travel Advisory” For Florida

“This Is A Stunt” – NAACP Issues “Travel Advisory” For Florida

DeSantis brushed off prior threats from NAACP: “What a joke! […] These people would be on CNN [and] then they would end up being [spotted] vacationing in Florida! […] This is a stunt, to try to do that [….] I’m not wasting my time on your stunts.”

There are many things about Florida that are getting hard to keep track of, like the booming tourist industry and huge net domestic migration into the state. Despite the massive influx of people, the unemployment rate is low.

But don’t go to Florida, says the NAACP – it’s practically 1940s Mississippi. Last March it threatened to issue a travel advisory. The Governor was not impressed, “a pure stunt”:

“What a joke! […] These people would be on CNN [and] then they would end up being [spotted] vacationing in Florida! […] This is a stunt, to try to do that [….] I’m not wasting my time on your stunts.”

Now the NAACP has followed through:

From the NAACP press release:

Today, the NAACP Board of Directors issued a formal travel advisory for the state of Florida. The travel advisory comes in direct response to Governor Ron DeSantis’ aggressive attempts to erase Black history and to restrict diversity, equity, and inclusion programs in Florida schools.

The formal travel notice states, “Florida is openly hostile toward African Americans, people of color and LGBTQ+ individuals. Before traveling to Florida, please understand that the state of Florida devalues and marginalizes the contributions of, and the challenges faced by African Americans and other communities of color.”

“Let me be clear – failing to teach an accurate representation of the horrors and inequalities that Black Americans have faced and continue to face is a disservice to students and a dereliction of duty to all,” said NAACP President & CEO Derrick Johnson. “Under the leadership of Governor Desantis, the state of Florida has become hostile to Black Americans and in direct conflict with the democratic ideals that our union was founded upon. He should know that democracy will prevail because its defenders are prepared to stand up and fight. We’re not backing down, and we encourage our allies to join us in the battle for the soul of our nation.”

The travel advisory was initially proposed to the Board of Directors by NAACP’s Florida State Conference. NAACP’s collective consideration of this advisory is a result from unrelenting attacks on fundamental freedoms from the Governor and his legislative body.

“Once again, hate-inspired state leaders have chosen to put politics over people. Governor Ron DeSantis and the state of Florida have engaged in a blatant war against principles of diversity and inclusion and rejected our shared identities to appeal to a dangerous, extremist minority,” said Chair of the NAACP Board of Directors, Leon Russell.

The Travel Advisory ominously warns:

Under its current Governor, the State of Florida has engaged in an all-out attack on Black
Americans, accurate Black history, voting rights, members of the LGBTQ+ community,
immigrants, women’s reproductive rights, and free speech, while simultaneously embracing a
culture of fear, bullying, and intimidation by public officials.

* * *

Due to this sustained, blatant, relentless and systemic attack on
democracy and civil rights, the NAACP hereby issues a travel advisory to
African Americans, and other people of color regarding the hostility towards African Americans
in Florida.

Please be advised that Florida is openly hostile toward African Americans, people of color and
LGBTQ+ individuals. Before traveling to Florida, please understand that the State of Florida
devalues and marginalizes the contributions of and the challenges faced by African Americans
and other minorities.

Apparently Florida isn’t all that hostile, at least not to NAACP administrators, as DeSantis’ press secretary tweeted:

Not everyone thinks this boycott is such a bad thing:

NAACP are no longer serious people when they pull such stunts.

Sounds like the NAACP is banging s their spoon on their high chair tray again.

/I didn’t realize they were still “a thing@.

The type of people that would listen to this aren’t the kind of people you want in FL anyway.

    Per the indespensible IowaHawk:

    “1. Identify a respected institution.
    2. kill it.
    3. gut it.
    4. wear its carcass as a skin suit while demanding respect.”

I, myself, am demonstrably not biased — I believe that people of any color or hue can engage in this crap, including we super-intelligent shades of blue including on issues grounded in color. (Blue’s a color. One in the rainbow, even.)

“Florida sees immediate drop in crime rate in wake of NAACP travel advisory.”

You said a variation of what I was thinking.

C’mon do you really think criminals read?

At most, this will convince a few bored, rich progressives to stay bored and woke.

“Please be advised that Florida is openly hostile toward African Americans, people of color and LGBTQ+ individuals.”

“Not that it’s true, but if you’re the type of person to heed this advisory, the feeling is mutual.”

“Here is your Vice Chair chillin’ in Clearwater, FL.”
Can’t you just see the oppression in her face?
Well, at least in her hairstyle.
Actually, I genuinely like her hairstyle.
The Florida one, not the gussied up avatar one.

Awesome!
Especially with Memorial Day weekend coming soon.
Hopefully urban beach week gets cancelled. Memorial Day should be about honoring our fallen heroes, not about twerking in the sand.

I’m issuing a travel advisory for Arizona too. Don’t come here it’s not safe. The border is wide open and everyone has a gun. Go somewhere where you will be welcomed. Chicago sounds nice or maybe Baltimore or San Francisco. If you throw your I’d away and pretend not not speak english you can get a free hotel room in New York.

The NACP and the ADL have both turned into Communist, race-baiting outfits.

I notice that the NAACP now want to drag the LGBQTE’iEIO into their hustle. Have that many blacks turned away from their message?

It will keep Jussie Smollett away.

DeSantis’s hand picked surgeon general is African American.

Mercyneal in reply to Mercyneal. | May 21, 2023 at 7:32 am

Actually his hand picked Surgeon General and graduate of Harvard Medical School is from Nigeria. Even better!

The Gentle Grizzly in reply to Mercyneal. | May 21, 2023 at 8:55 am

Are you kidding?!? Nigerian doctors are highly intelligent, self-sufficient, and don’t want their families anywhere near NAPAs, or most any “African-American”.

Samantha Josephson unavailable for comment.

The NAACP has long since burned up their stock of goodwill. They have turned into a grifter machine issuing political talking points on behalf of the hand that feeds them.

So, following the ACLU’s lead, and ahead of the SPLC.

(What is it with these groups and their initialisms?)

Florida should include this advisory, verbatim, in its tourist marketing campaign. It would give the State a nice bump in tourism dollars.

So, will all the local branches of the NAACP here in Florida (along with Disney) leave here in 2023? Asking for a friend.

Being a Floridian myself, I am so glad this warning was finally published! I sincerely hope the people that heed that type of advice will act accordingly.

This will help further discredit the NAACP.

So how much does it cost to buy a travel advisory from NAACP?

henrybowman in reply to FinbarOS. | May 22, 2023 at 12:47 am

The travel advisory is free, but don’t accept the complimentary trip-planning service. You wouldn’t believe the routing they give you.

Sure, instead I recommend they travel to Camden, St. Louis, Baltimore, Oakland and Chicago. These cities are MUCH safer for blacks than Florida (sarc).

A proposed back…black hole… whore h/t NAACP.

I forgot the NAACP was still around. Given the statements by the BLM crowd and others, the NAACP has been totally ineffective at advancing colored people since its inception. As for reparations, any reparations should be paid by the African black tribal slave catchers who sold their captured people to the slave traders and had been practicing slavery for hundreds of years prior to the founding of America.

“Under the leadership of Governor Desantis, the state of Florida has become hostile to Black Americans and in direct conflict with the democratic ideals that our union was founded upon.”

— NAACP President and CEO @DerrickNAACP

Wait….I thought woke black activist talking point was that our founders were colonialist slave-keepers; now you say our country really WAS founded on democratic ideals?

Things must be going very well for blacks in this country, as the NAACP has expanded its mission to “voting rights, members of the LGBTQ+ community, immigrants, women’s reproductive rights, and free speech”. Perhaps they should consider a name change that reflects their current progressive social justice platform. They might also want to reference the Democrat party, since the Democrats seem to control the organization.

BierceAmbrose in reply to CincyJan. | May 22, 2023 at 11:15 pm

They’ve changed their orientation to align with the coalition running the democratic party. The party is just the political arm.

As the institution, in this case the NAACP, became established it attracted leadership interested in the wielding of its power, vs. what it’s power was developed by and for. From there it’s a short step to steering the institution toward only acquiring power for its own sake.

Kicking in with the winning team gets you a sure-thing rake off on the cheap, while kicking in on a mission can cost you many things, with no guarantee you’ll win.

This is all just part of a campaign to stigmatize Gov. DeSantis because the radical left is terrified that he might become the Republican candidate for president. So they just keep lying and misrepresenting anything he or the Florida legislature has done. However, like most propaganda campaigns, this has to be taken seriously and combatted directly or it will take hold in large swaths of the non-radical electorate. Remember how they demonized Mitt Romney as a heartless extreme let-them-eat-cake capitalist? Then, after he was safely defeated, they could use him as a ‘moderate’ in order to attack more authentically capitalist Republicans. One can’t let them define a conservative candidate!!

“Under its current Governor, the State of Florida has engaged in an all-out attack on Black Americans,…”

Now do Chicago.
