Monty Python’s ‘Life of Brian’ Stage Show Being Rewritten to Avoid Offending Trans People

“So here you have something there’s never been a complaint about in 40 years, that I’ve heard of, and now all of a sudden we can’t do it because it’ll offend people.”

Monty Python is one of the greatest comedy groups of all time, but they are not immune to the woke mind virus currently afflicting much of the world.

John Cleese and Eric Idle are working on a live stage show that retells the story of their 1979 film, Monty Python’s Life of Brian.

One of the funniest scenes has been deemed problematic for making fun of the idea of men having babies.

The Daily Mail reports:

ALISON BOSHOFF: John Cleese is forced to cut famous Life of Brian scene about men having babies from his new West End show

He’s not the Messiah. He’s a very naughty boy. And it can be revealed that Brian, the man mistaken for the son of God, may be coming soon to the London stage.

Monty Python stars John Cleese and Eric Idle have been workshopping new scenes and plotlines for a blockbuster stage show based on the classic 1979 film Life Of Brian…

One exchange which has had to come out is the discussion between People’s Front of Judea members Stan (played by Idle) and Reg (Cleese). Stan says that he wants to be known as Loretta and to have babies. ‘It’s every man’s right to have babies if you want them,’ says Stan. Reg counters: ‘But — you can’t have babies.’ At which Stan responds: ‘Don’t you oppress me.’

Cleese told an audience at his one-man show last week that when the scene (co-written with the late Graham Chapman) was performed at a read-through for the new show in New York last year, doubts emerged. ‘At the end, I said to the American actors: ‘What do you think?’ And they said: ‘We love the script, but you can’t do that stuff about Loretta nowadays.’

‘So here you have something there’s never been a complaint about in 40 years, that I’ve heard of, and now all of a sudden we can’t do it because it’ll offend people. What is one supposed to make of that? But I think there were a lot of things that were actually, in some strange way, predictive of what was actually going to happen later.’

This is the scene in question:

David Strom of Hot Air observes:

It is impossible to overemphasize how tyrannical cultural Marxism, of which alphabet ideology is only one part, is. There is literally no part of human life that it will not destroy if it challenges the new catechism. This ideology is a cult, not an intellectual or social philosophy, and like all cultists it hates everything that challenges the alternate reality that it demands all accept.

That is correct. You may have noticed that some elements of the left have turned against comedy in recent years. This is why. They cannot tolerate ridicule.

Their crap was funny at the time, but doesn’t wear well. It’s pathetic that such a shop worn invalid of a performance needs to broadcast its sensitivity to current mores in order to gain a bit more publicity.

Hit a nevre for ya, ah? I think it is still pretty funny.

What doesn’t “wear well” is this skin-thinner-than-an-angstrom, old lady lecturing.
    Go suck an egg.

It’s not just thin skin. These people go through life HOPING to be “offended” by something.

The Chinese are working to undermine us in any and every way. In the meantime, our once-great country is worrying more about whether emoji and memoji are sufficiently “inclusive”.

I thought the whole thing was ridiculous when all of them were Simpson-colored. Now that they’ve expanded them 5x for each of the aggrieved ethnicities, it’s ludicrous.
I remember when BCD fans thought the ASCII chart was overgrown.

A better response is, “I fart in your general direction! Your mother was a hamster, and your father smelt of elderberries!”

Hey, dude. It’s your funny boys who are going all queer and changing their routine, not me. All I’m saying is what was funny for a teen in the early seventies is a snore fest now.

Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon until it is turned around.
It then becomes sedition.

The only way to avoid offending trans is to sit in the corner and shut your mouth. It helps to close your eyes and stick your fingers in your ears.

If you do open your mouth, you must say, “Trans women are real women.”

“Trans women are better than real women.” This what they really mean.

“Woman” of the Year encapsulates this notion when HE said that ladies “need to do better.”

As an XX woman, I resent everything about that imposter “man in a dress and makeup”

Historically men haven’t met a challenge that they didn’t try to dominate. Technological surgery and hormone therapy has made it nearly possible for men to think they are better than XX women.

Despite these apparent wins, men still cannot give birth. This is why sick men groom children with perverted need to pretend “birth.” Disgusting creeps.

    Jealous and deluded fools.

The fact that Cleese and Idle are willing to do this says all you need to know about them.

I liked Monty Python but the fact is that most of its stuff was just absurd and only a half-step above slapstick. And now they are prostrating themselves before the insane mobs they helped create. They don’t even have the courage to stick up for their own work.

Trans people should avoid offending people, too.

Life goes on to imitate art.

And art doesn’t like that.

Trans- A state or process of divergence. Homosexuals? Men appropriating dresses? Men in women’s locker rooms? A woman who aborts her child? A woman who cannibalizes her child for scientific or medical progress?

Lucifer Morningstar | May 23, 2023 at 1:29 pm

Well, we can all be assured that this travesty of a production of Monty Python’s Life of Brian will be an utter disaster like every other stage production and movie has been that has gone woke (whether voluntarily or not).

‣ Black Little Orphan Annie – Does anyone remember that one?
‣ All female cast for Ghostbusters – Bombed at the box office
‣ Sequel to Mad Max w/female as lead – Disappeared without a trace
‣ Anne Bolyn portrayed by a black actress – Yep, real winner there
‣ Black Cleopatra VII – Only managed to piss off a whole country

And there’s probably a load more that I’ve simply forgotten.

There’s a meme going around with something to the effect of waiting for all these re-writers of history to come out with a race-swapped biography of Hitler. Funnily enough, the historical revisionists are slow to take that one up.

The “All Female” Ghostbusters could have been good. The script was horrible. And it even had a dance number in it.

Now, I can admit my taste in movies isn’t everyone’s (I still think “Airplane!” is hilarious, and I like a lot of stuff Mel Brooks does), but that movie was TERRIBLE. The original was so much better.

2nd Ammendment Mother | May 23, 2023 at 2:01 pm

I sort of thought that sketch was the inspiration and founding documents for the woke trans mob.

So let me get it straight. It’s been perfectly O.K. to lampoon and offend Christians for 40 years, but it’s not O.K. to offend the “trans” crowd now? What B.S. And this guy has F.U. money, too. He could have left that in.

I hoping that at the appropriate point in the play, a mass chant starts:
“Call me Loretta!”, “Call me LORETTA!!!”
Make this happen.

Sad

Next thing ya know, someone, somewhere is going to demand that the “inappropriate” dialogue and scenes in “Airplane!” should be re-written. Like the “jive” scenes…or any other number of scenes in that movie.

They still have no problem insulting and disparaging the only Truth that matters

Shows like Monty Python and Benny Hill are still plenty funny to normal people, but no humor is allowed on the left. Leftists’ cancerous resentment ruins everything it touches.

I watch this movie every year or three . . . know most of the dialogue by heart, and yeah, I could see this coming.
Trans-Nazi’s proclaiming oppression because they don’t have uteri, and yet are too afraid to remove their Biggus Dickus.
I love movies and yet, I rarely see anything made/released recently.; the brain-washing efforts are palpable.

Fuck Disney/Hulu/ESPN, and also I cut Netflix and all the lousy remakes they keep peddling as “original.”
Going Criterion instead.

UPDATE: It turns out (happily) this article is entirely fake news.

John Cleese tweets:

A few days ago I spoke to an audience outside London. I told them I was adapting the Life of Brian so that we could do it as a stage show ( NOT a musical ). I said that we’d had a table-reading of the latest draft in NYC a year ago… and that all the actors – several of them Tony winners – had advised me strongly to cut the Loretta scene.

I have, of course, no intention of doing so

So someone in the audience had called a journalist and misreported me. Amazingly none of the British media called to check
