WaPo’s Glenn Kessler Posts Three Pinocchio ‘Fact Check’ On Bragg Being “Soros-backed,” Gets Schooled

Here at LI, we have long documented billionaire busybody George Soros’ investment in DA races across the country.

Indeed, as Parker Thayer wrote in October, 2022, Soros actually bragged about his intentional influence on American DA races:

An op-ed written by the man himself early last week titled “Why I Support Reform Prosecutors” severely declawed the Left’s attacks. It’s hard to make allegations of anti-Semitic conspiracy theory stick when the man under fire admits he’s doing the thing he’s accused of (although that didn’t stop many from trying). In the article, Soros confesses he’s the godfather of the progressive prosecutor movement and declares he’ll keep the funding coming. Give credit where credit is due: Soros is clear about his intentions.

You can read Soros’ piece here. His concluding paragraph is pretty clear:

This is why I have supported the election (and more recently the re-election) of prosecutors who support reform. I have done it transparently, and I have no intention of stopping. The funds I provide enable sensible reform-minded candidates to receive a hearing from the public. Judging by the results, the public likes what it’s hearing.

It’s clear unless your name is Glenn Kessler and you work for the Wamazon Post as a Democrat hacktivist, that is.

The left, as Professor Jacobson recently noted, is trying to claim that any criticism of Soros is antisemitic because he is Jewish. This is ludicrous on its face, of course, and as the Professor notes, “yes, it’s okay to point out that Alvin Bragg is ‘Soros-backed’.”

Kessler is on board with that angle, as he rambles on about it, but his main purpose in this fact-challenged ‘fact check’ is that Soros did not actually directly donate to Bragg’s campaign . . . but he did back groups that did so. Kessler neglects to mention that this is how campaign finance works in this country.

This clear connection between Soros’ stated intentions and goals and the backing of Bragg is deemed by Kessler as worthy of three Pinocchios.

Republicans are being slippery here. Claiming Soros “funded” Bragg is simply false, but many rely on the more ambiguous phrase of “backed,” which is technically correct by several degrees of separation. But it’s still misleading and worthy of Three Pinocchios.

The claim is true, but it’s a three Pinocchio lie. Or something.

Needless to say, people have thoughts.
