Netherlands: 10,000 Farmers Protest Against Climate Change Regulations

Netherlands: 10,000 Farmers Protest Against Climate Change Regulations

Dutch politician Geert Wilders: “The real aim here is to get rid of our farmers for some leftist Nitrogen agenda and make room for non western immigrants.”

More than ten thousand Dutch farmers protested in the city of the Hague on Saturday, in response to the new European Union-backed climate change laws.

The Hague police allowed the farmers’ rally, but blocked their tractors from entering the city. “Thousands of farmers and anti-establishment demonstrators protested Saturday in a park in The Hague against Dutch government plans to reduce nitrate emissions,” the Associated Press reported Saturday. “Police said they stopped an unknown number of tractors that were headed for the farmers’ demonstration.”

The Dutch government has committed itself to meeting the EU targets on lowering greenhouse gas emissions, even if it means putting the country’s farmers out of business.

The farmers’ fear for their livelihood is not based on baseless conspiracy theories, but on the threats issued by the country’s government. The Dutch government wants to “convince farmers to reduce livestock herds or leave the industry to cut emissions,” The UK newspaper Financial Times reported recently.

Climate activists also held a counter-demonstration in the city, demanding an end to  fossil fuel and the creation of more radical climate laws. “Elsewhere in the city, thousands of environmentalists blocked a major thoroughfare in an unauthorised protest against tax rules they say encourage the use of fossil fuels,” Reuters reported.

Germany’s state TV Deutsche Welle reported:

More than 10,000 Dutch farmers protested in The Hague on Saturday against the government’s plans to limit nitrogen emissions.

The protests took place ahead of the March 15 provincial elections, which will indirectly select members of the national parliament’s upper house and could have an effect on proposals for reducing nitrate pollution.

Police said they stopped an unknown number of tractors that were headed for the farmers’ demonstration. The city banned all but two “symbolic” tractors from participating, citing safety concerns.

The protesters carried banners reading “No farmers, no food,” and, “There is no nitrogen ‘problem'” during the peaceful demonstration organized by the Farmers’ Defence Force group.

Many also waved upside-down Dutch flags, which have become synonymous with farmers’ protests, and balloons with the logo of the far-right Forum for Democracy (FVD) party.

Police Given Emergency Powers to Crack Down on Farmers

The police were given emergency powers to crack down on protesting farmers. “Early on Saturday, the mayor of The Hague issued an emergency order granting police extra powers to enforce public order and ensure safety during the planned protests,” the Reuters reported.

“Police said in a statement they had begun intercepting farmers attempting to enter the city on tractors and turning them away. The Farmers Defence Force group leading the farmers’ demonstration, which has city approval, has encouraged people to arrive by bus,” the news agency added.

The protest took place ahead of Wednesday’s regional election that could impact the power balance in the national parliament’s upper house as it votes on new climate emission laws.

The protesting farmers received the backing of several right-wing parties, including Geert Wilders’ Dutch Freedom Party (PVV). The PVV leader dismissed the proposed emission regulations as “Leftist rubbish” that seeks to get rid of the country’s farming communities to “make room” for illegal immigrants who are swarming Europe from Muslim-dominated North Africa and the Middle East.

“The real aim here is to get rid of our farmers for some leftist Nitrogen agenda and make room for non western immigrants….something totally different than the current elite are telling the people,” Wilders told the Canadian news website Rebel News.

If the farmers really want some positive media attention, they should protest while wearing gaudy drag attire.

I really thought the Dutch military would choose to remain neutral.

Ours won’t either, just in case you were curious.

That seems too broad a claim. Recall that Trump offered up NG forces to support Capital Police with security prior to and on J6.

All it will take is a small group of the military opening fire on civilians [here or there] and having other military present either not stopping/punishing them or the regime protecting/rewarding them and the relationship between military and country will be forever changed. And not for the better.

Presumably you mean opening fire on an unarmed, non violent, not aggressive, protesters/crowd, folks just being passive but unwilling to comply and then the troops decide to open fire without any reason?

That would definitely be a pivotal moment. If instead you mean something like the Boston Massacre; which most definitely did not include a peaceful, non aggressive, passive crowd then it would be less pivotal.

Your – CC’s, – comment is accurate and a reflection of the old adage that warns of taking care to not paint with too broad a brush, which Fuzzy might be guilty of. Unfortunately, the problem here is the same that confronts us when being told that we need and must trust the FBI. True, perhaps. If you accept that the need is genuine, and not all do but OTOH it may be genuine, the problem then becomes how do you know which agent to trust? Unfortunately, you can’t tell, just don’t know so you choose to accept none. And Fuzzy just may be right.

When that happens, we will be confronted with the consequence described so well in Subotai’s comment, below. This as surely as we are discussing it here. The mistrust sown into the life of the country may be the greatest threat we face today.

Increasingly, we are living on a tinderbox. The border(s), plural now with the problems up north; the congressional mob, a reference to Cheney, et al, not the “insurrectionists;” the Supreme Court’s ‘mysteriously’ leaked “Dobbs” decision; unrestrained looting, from neighborhood bodegas in NYC to high-end jewelry stores in Hollywood and on Chicago’s Loop and Walgreen drug stores in-between; unchecked, undeniable, unprosecuted fentanyl smuggling; the multiple release of hardened criminals back to the streets by prosecutors and judges unwilling to enforce the law; and a dozen other organizations and cases everyone here can cite, from the Hunter Biden laptop cover-up to the CDC.

Does the tinderbox go up? Who do you trust? What sets it off? Can we step back? Dangerous times.

Trump authorized the use of up to 20,000 (IIRC) NG troops to supplement security for the day. As the offer was declined, there was no particular lesson to be drawn about what the troops may, or may not, have done if ordered to do any particular thing. Most likely they would have followed orders, but perhaps not to fire upon those peacefully protesting. We won’t know in advance, though the Guard has come a long way from Ohio and Kent State.

Maybe their the same “military “ that stormed into Canada

I would guess a fair amount of mercenaries

But we see how our Jan6 political prisoners were beaten and murdered

    And they got awards!

It’s a pretty amazing statistic that despite its relatively small land area, the Netherlands is the world’s second-largest agricultural exporter, after the U.S., and, ahead of Germany, France and Brazil.

Naturally, dim-witted Leftist zealots want to destroy that progress and prosperity — and, facilitate world hunger and starvation in the process — by implementing their contemporary update on Mao’s “Great Leap Forward.:

Strelnikov | March 12, 2023 at 4:38 pm

And, I assume, this will have the same impact as the previous farmer protests: None.

The Left’s war against agriculture, the very thing that keeps mankind alive, continues apace. The Climate Religion demands it.

“The Left’s war against agriculture, the very thing that keeps mankind alive”
I was curious as to whether “lemming” was originally a Dutch word.
    Old Norse.
    In the ballpark.

Mr. Wilders has analyzed the situation correctly. Look for him to be prosecuted for it in the near future.

Subotai Bahadur | March 12, 2023 at 6:38 pm

I am wondering when either the Dutch police or the Dutch military will open fire on the farmers. And what the reaction will be.

If I was a Dutch farmer I would be trying to sell my crops totally outside the country and let the cities go hungry. As an object lesson for the world if nothing else.

“Leftist rubbish” that seeks to get rid of the country’s farming communities to “make room” for illegal immigrants who are swarming Europe from Muslim-dominated North Africa and the Middle East

What I’m the world do they think replacing hard working citizens that go back hundreds if not thousands of years with middle eastern people that want to kill and Enslave you and just want hand outs is going to get them?

I just really don’t understand the logic

Free State Paul in reply to gonzotx. | March 13, 2023 at 5:57 pm

Hard-working, productive people are impossible to control. They know they can take care of themselves better than the government can.

Stupid, lazy parasites are easily controlled, since they rely on the government for their existence.
