Some Diversity Staffers Are Quitting Higher Education Citing Lack Of Support

Back in December, we covered a story at Princeton University about diversity, equity, and inclusion administrators who were leaving the school for what they claimed was a lack of support from the administration.

We cited this report from the Daily Princetonian:

3 Princeton DEI staff members resign, alleging lack of support

In May, the University’s Director of Athletics was “incredibly excited” to announce a new hire for the department: Jordan “JT” Turner, who would be joining the University as the inaugural Associate Director of Athletics for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI). Turner’s role was intended to “create and maintain a culture of mutual respect and unity” and oversee “all aspects of DEI education and training for student-athletes, coaches and staff with Princeton Athletics,” according to a University announcement.

Within four months, Turner resigned from the role.

Turner is not the only University DEI official to recently resign. Since September 2021, two other Princeton staff members who were hired to conduct DEI-related work across the University have resigned. All three independently alleged a systemic lack of support from the University administration.

This is apparently happening at some other schools now.

Liam Knox of Inside Higher Ed picks up right where the Princeton story leaves off:

The departures at Princeton are part of a pattern in higher education, according to nearly a dozen college and university DEI administrators and staffers who spoke with Inside Higher Ed. While some institutions have elevated their highest-level DEI officers to senior positions or even president, the employees interviewed for this article said that more often, university leaders show a lack of appreciation and support for their work, leading them and many of their colleagues to leave higher ed burned out and disillusioned.

Compounding those challenges is an increasingly aggressive political attack on DEI initiatives by conservatives across the country. Texas lawmakers have proposed legislation to ban DEI work in public higher ed outright. Last week, Oklahoma’s new Republican superintendent of public instruction issued a letter requiring the state’s public colleges to account for “every dollar spent” on DEI in a potential effort to curb that spending. And on Tuesday, Florida governor Ron DeSantis announced plans to defund all DEI offices across the state’s higher education system, the latest in a long string of political maneuvers that includes the recent appointment of two vocal anti-DEI activists to the New College of Florida’s Board of Trustees.

Despite the increase in political hostility, the number of senior DEI roles is steadily multiplying.

On a related note, in all the recent layoffs in big tech, DEI staffers are often the first to go. Why do you suppose that is?

Not fast enough.

Well good. These clowns were nothing but show pieces anyway. ‘Quick, come join our administration with a really catchy title. You say the press conference is over and the cameras gone. Good. ‘
‘Now go do something and don’t look too closely at those of us who hired you.’

Something like that..

Eh, they aren’t quitting fast enough and they are still getting too much support.

Immediate gratification finds liberalism. Old liberals knew it would take decades in some cases to win over enough support ( ie women in combat, gay marriage). The new libs want it before they ask for it.

Ask? They DEMAND, like the spoiled children they are.

Ah, to be a fly on the wall when they have to actually work, presuming the government doesn’t think that is too “cruel.”

Diversity staffers?
That is Newspeak for a job description requiring hourly violation of EEOC regulations against race discrimination and sex discrimination, right?
https://www.eeoc.gov/sex-based-discrimination
“Sex discrimination involves treating someone (an applicant or employee) unfavorably because of that person’s sex, including the person’s sexual orientation, gender identity, or pregnancy.”
https://www.eeoc.gov/racecolor-discrimination
“Race discrimination involves treating someone (an applicant or employee) unfavorably because he/she is of a certain race or because of personal characteristics associated with race (such as hair texture, skin color, or certain facial features). Color discrimination involves treating someone unfavorably because of skin color complexion.”

Well then, there is rampant color discrimination at big corporations, because they are nearly universally against hiring whites, especially straight white males.

Does that mean if someone presents at a job interview as an entitled & aggrieved a-hole they may be rejected regardless of skin tone? Or even actual qualifications otherwise?

(It’s been a few years since I’d been hiring staff myself, but thought I’d ask for a friend anyway.)

Hate will only take you so far before it peters out. Thank goodness for that.

” university leaders show a lack of appreciation and support for their work”

So, the money isn’t good enough?

Ohio State is currently spending over ten million dollars a year on salaries for these useless “deans,” who must struggle to justify their existence on the university’s payroll. You can bet that they keep busy finding problems that don’t otherwise exist, and that they are pushing for hiring decisions based primarily on race. Despite this waste of resources, university bureaucrats and their lobbyists have the temerity to complain that there isn’t enough state spending for “higher” education. How many scholarships would be available for deserving students if these positions simply got the ax that they so richly deserve? I can already hear the blood-curdling screams of racism.

Bye…

DEI staffers resign, claiming lack of support? Were I in charge, they’d all be fired and somehow branded so they can never go onto the campus of any educational facility, nor work in one, ever again.

“Equity” requires racism, “equality” rejects it.

When I imagine a DIE-folk meeting, I can’t help seeing an eager, self-absorbed gaggle at the local coffee shop, at a table planning an “action.” So excited about what words to put on their cardboard signs, in what color glitter.

I saw this happen for realz. Before they broke up they had to figure out who’s mothers would drop them off, and pick them up. You can’t parody these folks — they’re stuck in bad Jr. High play-acting at relevance.

These DIE people are embedded CHAZ-ters inside whatever they infest. Literally cardboard signs. Even grant them not-so-autonomous water and power, within days they were “demanding” on-demand security from the police they had kicked out. Also donations from elsewhere to pay for food, sourced from elsewhere. The inside-folks are no different — thinking up fantasy demands for someone else to provision.

If I’m gonna act out a pleasant fantasy, it’s probably not about chanting, and the props won’t be cardboard. Just sayin.

These people are LARP-ing. People who confuse their game of pretend with reality get scorned even in things like The SCA

Dems are returning to their racist roots with critical race theory. MLK dreamed that people would be judged by the content of their character, not the color of their skin. Dems rejected MLK’s dream and insist on judging people by the color of their skin. Just like when they fought to keep blacks in chains they insist on judging by skin color.

Before we applaud lets see if the schools raise the salaries and fill the vacancies.

Always have time to get that CDL and learn to drive the big rigs or some other skill that’s actually useful.

Good. I hope this is true.

“university leaders show a lack of appreciation and support for their work”
People might appreciate them more if they cultivated a legitimate skill, like latte art, or pole dancing.

Listen here staffers. I’m with you. I’d quit too! I’d put on my resume that I quit because some people on campus weren’t treating me warmly and giving me support and puppies. That way you’ll bond with the interviewers and together you can fix this problem in the universities!

The problem is with those DIE staffers who aren’t brave enough to follow in your footsteps. Would they put up with this sort of lack of caring just because of a lousy paycheck? They should all quit, especially any faculty with tenure. That will really make a statement!
