Trump Drops $250 Million Fraud Case Against New York AG Letitia James

President Donald Trump dropped his $250 million fraud lawsuit against New York Attorney General Letitia James.

Trump filed the lawsuit in November in an effort “to shield his revocable trust” from James, who filed a $250 million lawsuit against the Trump family. His ownership of the Trump Organization went into a revocable trust when he became president:

In a 41-page civil lawsuit laden with familiar grievances, the former president accused James of “intimidation and harassment” and of making repeated “attempts to steal, destroy or control all things Trump,” including the Donald J. Trump Revocable Trust that contains his private estate plan, and decisions about the disposition of his assets upon death. The lawsuit said the trust “requires protection from James’ demand to invade his privacy.” As part of her lawsuit, James has sought documents about the trust, its terms and its contents.”These are private matters to President Trump, and under Florida law, revelation of a settlor’s revocable trust while the settlor is still alive threatens the settlor’s right to privacy guaranteed by Article I, Section 23 of the Florida Constitution and the common law,” Trump’s lawsuit states.

Trump did not explain why he withdrew the lawsuit: “Plaintiff, PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP, by and through his undersigned counsel and pursuant to Fed. R. Civ. P. 41(a)(1)(A)(i), hereby voluntarily dismisses his claims in this action against Defendant, LETITIA JAMES, without prejudice.”

On Thursday, U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida Judge Donald Middlebrooks warned Trump  “that the lawsuit appeared to verge on frivolous.”

Also on Thursday, Middlebrooks also fined Trump and his lawyer Alina Habba $1 million for filing a “frivolous” lawsuit against failed Democrat presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.
