Montana Higher Education Official Pushes Universities to Ban TikTok

“The ability of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) to spy on Americans using TikTok is well documented.”

This is happening all over the country. It’s surprising how quickly so many states are acting on this.

NBC News Montana reports:

Governor, commissioner of higher education urge Montana universities to ban TikTok

Montana’s governor and commissioner of higher education want the Montana University System to prevent the use of TikTok on campus networks.

Just last month, Montana banned the use of TikTok on state devices and state network systems, citing security risks with the Chinese government.

Gov. Greg Gianforte urged the Montana Board of Regents to prevent the use of the social media app on devices connected to university networks.

No word yet whether the Board of Regents will take any action.

When asked for comment, a University of Montana spokesperson gave us the following statement: “UM is taking the next necessary steps in coordination with the entire Montana University System. This includes waiting for further guidance from the Office of the Commissioner of Higher Education on the prevalence of TikTok on our campus. The UM TikTok account is not currently posting any new material as we work with the Montana University System on the further actions that need to be taken. So while the account is not closed, it isn’t actively posting any new content.”

The Office of the Governor released the following information:

After banning TikTok on state devices, for state business, and while connected to the state network, Governor Greg Gianforte today urged the Board of Regents to support efforts by Commissioner of Higher Education Clay Christian to take similar action within the university system.

“The ability of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) to spy on Americans using TikTok is well documented.
