‘First Avowed Fascist Since Mussolini’: Leftists, Media in Denial the Right-Wing Alliance Could Win in Italy

CBS News: “Giorgia Meloni, the woman expected to win, leads a neo-fascist movement, reminiscent of Benito Mussolini’s own political party.”

It looks like the Brothers of Italy will win in Italy. Giorgia Meloni will likely become Italy’s first female prime minister.

It’s Benito Mussolini again, you guys! Because anyone who opposes the left wing is automatically another Mussolini or Hitler.

If you follow Italian politics, you’ll know the country cannot have a stable government. It has to be in its documents because Italy constantly dissolves its parliament and elects new prime ministers every other month.

People are losing their minds on social media. My great-grandparents fled Mussolini in the 1920s. This is insulting and concerns me so much because people don’t know history.

“Because anyone who opposes the left wing is automatically another Mussolini or Hitler.”

Mussolini, Hitler, Mao, Stalin, Pol Pot et alia were all for total government, like the Democrat Party.

The only known alternative to limited government is an unlimited one.

Being called ‘fascist’ by these knuckle-dragging regressive authoritarian goons is so cute….

The first anti- Germany party since WWII. Fixed it.

If somehow the word “f*ck!” were to suddenly disappear from our vocabulary, these geniuses wouldn’t have any arguments at all. Should we be expecting Dark Brandon to stop saying “For God’s sake!” and soon using “For f*ck’s sake!!!” instead?

Fat_Freddys_Cat | September 26, 2022 at 7:46 am

I have yet to hear a coherent explanation as to exactly how she is “fascist”. I suppose I’d better not hold my breath.

I notice the little trick they’re pulling with photos of her: taking photos where she’s waving and cropping her hand out, and then pretending she’s giving a stiff-arm fascist salute. Not falling for it.

I’ll believe the media that she’s a “far right wing fascist” when they start referring to Brandon et al as “far left wing communists.” And then they would be well served by stating which of her policies are “fascist.” Even formerly reputable news sources such as The Wall Street Journal have taken to referring to conservatives–both home and abroad–as “right wing,” yet simply refer to statist/socialist/communist politicians as “progressives.” It’s time for a non-evil media to emerge.

Good luck with that. We’ll have to raze “journalism schools” and departments in higher ed. They churn out these ideologues and are still doing it.

Dimsdale in reply to Disgusted. | September 26, 2022 at 1:12 pm

If only they had cheated and defrauded the voting system like they did here, they too could have their own neo communist in office!

Remember when liberals were called “knee jerk?” Time to bring that back, given their reflexive, unfounded, panicky accusations of “fascist” and “Nazi.”

They should take a good look in the mirror; it is their very extreme leftist views that will leave the EU cold and dark this winter. People notice.

JackinSilverSpring in reply to Disgusted. | September 28, 2022 at 8:19 am

Nothing wrong with being right-wing. The dirty little secret is that the Nazis and fascists were in fact not right-wing but left wing. The only difference between the commies and the Nazi-fascists was that former were international socialists and the latter were national socialists, and both were nasty dictatorships. The leftists who identify the Nazi-fascists as rightists are doing the same Orwellian number on us as when they call themselves liberal when there is not one liberal bone in any of them.

What’s the difference between a fascist vs an “avowed” fascist? She actually ran openly as a fascist? Referred to herself as a fascist? Does that ever happen?

The Gentle Grizzly in reply to Pasadena Phil. | September 26, 2022 at 10:27 am

“Avowed” is one of those scare=quote words, like “so-called” is. In general press coverage, and in the religious press, all of us atheists are “avooowwwweddd” atheists. I think this is to put us all into the Madalyn O’Hair pigeonhole. Me? I’m just a non-believer.

My late mother was incapable of using the word “conservative” without the prefix “ultra” spliced on in front of it.

Apparently, that person is claiming that Meloni has herself claimed to be a fascist.

I wonder what libel laws might apply?

At some point in the past, she was part of what was an explicitly fascist party. That’s the claim.

healthguyfsu in reply to GWB. | September 26, 2022 at 5:02 pm

This could work out nicely for conservatives if media didn’t play by the only standards they know (doubles).

By this logic, all Dems are now avowed racist slavers.

NorthernNewYorker | September 26, 2022 at 8:18 am

“Most right-wing government since WW II”? What a meaningless phrase. They’ll undo nothing put in place over the last 70 years, but maybe, just maybe, slow down immigration. As a commenter said on another thread, if the lefties won’t make the government do its job, then the people will elect “extreme right wingers” who will.

Anti WEF and anti Brussels candidate elected to lead an independent county. Good. Now do France and other EU countries. let’s celebrate the accomplishment of women.

From way over there on the lunatic fringe left, everything looks “far right wing”.

The Gentle Grizzly in reply to UJ. | September 26, 2022 at 10:38 am

See my comment elsewhere about my late mom using “ultra” in front of “conservative” without fail.

For centuries Germany and France have tried to conquer all of Europe. They couldn’t do it with war, so they came up with the EU. Now that the rest of Europe is waking up to this (Poland, Hungary, Sweden, and now Italy), and saying NO, they are even more dangerous

Haven’t been following this — does she actually call herself a fascist?

Or does “avowed fascist” have some other meaning?

The leftist drones are reacting with their usual pants on fire freak-out, complete with plenty of meaningless name calling including their favorite term for opponents: fascist. These fools have been telling voters, “It’s our way or the highway,” for decades. Looks like voters finally agreed and are trying the highway for a change.

Fascism is just another form of socialism in real life.

I haven’t looked into the politics of the woman in question (Italy isn’t exactly my highest concern, here in the US), but usually when leftists say “far right” they’re using a political scale that has Chairman Mao as the “center” point.

CommoChief in reply to Nohbody. | September 26, 2022 at 10:05 am

Yep. If she is at the extreme right of the political spectrum then wouldn’t those who hold opposing left-wing views be at extreme left?

Somehow we never get the media to observe that the center mass of the body politic in the US is center right, which means their d/prog allies are the outliers on the extreme left. Polls show this every year on issue after issue but somehow 2+2 never gets added.

“Far-right” is usually similar to a mainstream Republican I think.

Anyone who isn’t an avowed global communist is a “right wing fascist.” Despite that being a nonsensical phrase.

She’s better looking than either Mussolini or Hillary. That’s probably what REALLY pisses off the far-left crybabies.

Dimsdale in reply to CDR D. | September 26, 2022 at 1:20 pm

    I think Mussolini beats Hillary.

At least the paparazzi would actually look up Il Duce’s skirt if he wore one…

Fat_Freddys_Cat | September 26, 2022 at 11:09 am

I suspect the lefties are also butthurt because the first female PM will be a conservative. “Hey, we own that!”

Fascist. They keep on using that word, but I don’t think they know what it means. The original Fascists, the party of Mussolini, regarded FDR as a fellow fascist. The Nazi party simply took the Democrats’ Jim Crow racial laws and substituted “Jew”. Again, they do not know what that word means.

Another aspect of Fascism is an all-powerful government that strong-arms large corporations into doing their bidding, in exchange for a favorable regulatory environment. Much like what we see in the past few years with Democrat lawmakers leaning on Big Tech to enforce their censorship, cancel right-wingers, implement gun control through de-banking businesses, etc.

If you find yourself at a party and somehow surrounded by leftist academics spouting nonsense the most effective way to escape is ask if they support socialist policies. When they agree then ask if they want those policies implemented across the Nation. When they agree to that ask them why they are NAZIS. After they finish sputtering just calmly explain that anyone who wants to impose National Socialism is by definition a National Socialist aka a NAZI. Then walk away.

The Nazi party simply took the Democrats’ Jim Crow racial laws and substituted “Jew”

Come on, they did a lot more than that, even in the 1930s. There is no comparing the Nuremberg Laws to the Jim Crow laws.

In Umberto Eco’s excellent “The Name of the Rose”, there is a scene in which the protagonist and a friend are having a wine at an outdoor café. While doing so they are approached by a dirty, scruffy, down-and-out woman who is begging for money. The protagonist gently refuses, and the woman spits in reply, “fascist”. She then goes to the next table, and the next, and she has the same response to everyone who refuses her demand for money: “fascist”.

I think this encapsulates the response today to the Italian election. The progressive and socialist left is demanding money and power, and when we refuse to accede to their demands we are labeled “fascist”. It’s the same in American politics, and indeed around the world.

“Fascist” — simply an expression of hatred and frustration that we ordinary people aren’t doing as demanded.

the country cannot have a stable government. It has to be in its documents

It actually is. Italy has proportional representation, where parliamentary seats are apportioned based on the number of popular votes a party receives (as opposed to the first-past-the-post, winner-takes-all by riding method in a typical Westminster Parliament). This means perpetual minority and coalition governments, and any lost vote in the parliament means back to the polls.

How stable will it be in independently addressing their fiscal position when the EU cuts off the spigot of assistance? The lack of a coherent govt policy that takes head on their bloated budget has resulted in a debt approaching 150% of GDP.

The constant changing of political horses under their system results in endless buying of votes by the various parties through govt promises which leads directly to their looming debt crisis should the more fiscally responsible EU Nations pull the plug.

a debt approaching 150% of GDP
Pikers. /US Congress and Federal Reserve

Also, how much do you really think stable gov’t would help that? *looks at US gov’t*

CommoChief in reply to GWB. | September 26, 2022 at 4:49 pm

As the current world reserve currency and the worlds military/financial hegemon (though weaker every day) we are in effect exporting inflation at present. Every dollar denominated transaction casts more.

Our debt to GDP is ‘merely’ 130% ish and investors flock to buy our debt and a nd their funds here to our markets but only because it’s still the least dirty shirt in the laundry and in many respects lack of an alternative…..for the moment at least.
We still have enough inertia left to propel us along for a while.

Italy is among other debtor nations of the EU is likely hosed. They lack our advantages and depend upon the EU subsidies direct and indirect to fund their govt programs. The day is approaching when the more productive, frugal Nations are compelled by the demands of their own citizens to stop sending their tax dollars abroad to support the debtor Nations. Then the wheels of the EU come off and it falls apart.

EU leadership is functionally the same as Dems and our Marxist Progressives. Stupid and incompetent.

They are hardly stupid or incompetent, if they were they wouldn’t be able to collapse the economy worldwide so quickly and effectively. I would say “evil and malicious”.

First, if you define “fascism” as “right-wing” i need you to define ‘left’ and ‘right’ for me.
Second, I need you to provide a definition of ‘fascism’ before you can use that word in speaking to me.
Third, since I know you* can’t really do either of the above, you should understand that you’re much closer to ‘fascist’ than anyone you call ‘fascist’.

(* Rhetorical “you”. Not aimed at the author of this post.)

It seems ‘fascist’ is the new ‘racist’

Well our D-party hordes would certainly know “fascist” when they see it.

“If you’re not with us, you’re against us.” — preferably pronounced by an agitated white guy, lit in black and red, with a Praetorian Guard on display. The Italian comrades seem a bit light on symbolism and policy, so far.

Voice_of_Reason | September 26, 2022 at 3:26 pm

The left’s definition of “fascism” is “someone who refuses to do the bidding of globalist bureaucrats and oligarchs.”

Apparently these people are too stupid to know that fascists properly belong on the left with all of the other socialists.

Italy salutes lefties everywhere today with a heartfelt “Vaffanculo” and “Up yours” gesture.

In this country, we do it differently.
We hand over all the election management to Liberals…
And they cheat.
Interesting system…

She’s every bit as much of a “fascist” as Milton Freedman.

Stands for limited government and free market capitalism. In short, she’s diametrically opposed to what Fascism is as a political ideology.
