Chicago Mayor Lightfoot Quietly Moves Illegal Immigrants to the Suburbs

Dying. DYING.

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot, like every other Chicago politician, showed the nation why Chicago is so windy.

The hot air from the politicians! It’s windy because of the hot air from the politicians.

Lightfoot welcomed the illegal immigrants after Texas Gov. Greg Abbott bused a few of them to the sanctuary city. She said they would greet and help these people, unlike the awful and un-Christian Abbott:

“This is such an important moment for Chicago as our city has been a sanctuary for thousands of newcomers. We are welcoming them and we will not turn our backs on those who need our help the most,” Lightfoot said last Wednesday in a statement.”We understand that many are fleeing violent, traumatic, or otherwise unstable environments,” the statement continued. “We will respond with essential services while these individuals navigate the next steps of their journey and our community partners have been working diligently to provide a safety net.”

Then why did Lightfoot ship a bunch of illegal immigrants to the suburbs?!

Burr Ridge Mayor Gary Grasso had no idea Lightfoot sent illegal immigrants to his city. From NBC Chicago:

As more buses of migrants arrive in Chicago from Texas — part of a controversial plan from Gov. Greg Abbott’s administration that is sending asylum-seekers off to northern, Democrat-led “sanctuary cities” — the mayor of a western Chicago suburb says he was left in the dark after 64 migrants arrived in his village this week.”As we sit here today, right now, I have not gotten an official word from the city, from the state, or Cook County,” Burr Ridge Mayor Gary Grasso told NBC 5 Thursday in an interview. In a statement, the village of Burr Ridge confirmed it received 64 refugees Wednesday, which were transported from the Salvation Army Shield of Hope in Chicago. The refugees were ultimately assigned to temporary hotel housing in Burr Ridge.”Neither village elected officials nor staff were consulted or contacted about this decision and we are now gathering information to keep our community updated.”

Grasso said he has no problem having the people coming to his town, but he’d prefer a heads-up.

The Illinois Department of Human Services released a generic statement instead of explaining why the state is not working with the cities and suburbs:

In a statement, the Illinois Department of Human Services said the state has so far welcomed nearly 300 migrants, refugees, asylum seekers and immigrants, “most coming to Illinois with only the clothes on their backs.”In a request for comment, the state told NBC 5 ” Many [migrants] are receiving temporary shelter in urban and suburban hotels that have provided refuge for vulnerable families from Afghanistan and other parts of the world. We are grateful for the hospitality and care they have received from individuals and organizations across Illinois.””We will continue taking action to ensure everyone in Illinois has access to shelter, food, healthcare, and other basic, essential supports,” the statement continued. “We anticipate that the State of Texas will continue to bus migrants to Illinois, and we remain committed to helping welcome new arrivals in a responsible, orderly and compassionate way.”

The department is even telling illegal immigrants not to speak to the media.

It’s no wonder the department is doing that because the people have nothing nice to say about officials.

The Democrats are learning it’s more than just declaring yourself a sanctuary city or state. There’s a lot more to it. The illegal immigrants and others lashed out at the officials for not doing anything:

“They’ve treated us well, but they’re not telling us what’s going on or where are we going next,” said Eglee Velazquez, a mother of three. “We need a home, my husband needs a job and my kids need to go to school. We are tired.”Though grateful to have a comfortable bed, plenty of food and clean clothes to wear, the group is concerned they will face isolation from being far away from the city, and that the distance will make it harder to seek help and make connections on their own to find permanent housing and find work, they said.Other grassroots activists and elected officials have also voiced their concern that the steps the state and city are taking to not only welcome migrants, but to provide them with a comprehensive guide to establish themselves in the Chicago area, are not enough. After a journey of nearly three months from their native town in Venezuela, fleeing extreme poverty and an authoritarian regime, most are desperately looking for a final stop of their siege, Baltazar Enriquez from the Little Village Community Council said.Enriquez and several volunteers from the organization were at Union Station when the first buses from Texas arrived and have been in contact with some migrants despite not working with the city or the state officially. The group has connected some migrants to jobs and a permanent place to live. They also have given them clothes and activated several phones lines for them.“Let’s be honest, that’s all they need and for that, they need to be near other immigrants that have done the same in the past. We help each other out,” Enriquez said. “But I don’t know what’s the plan that the state and local government have.”

I. Am. Dying.

Abbott is showing the Democrats’ hypocrisy regarding immigration. He is not even sending a lot of illegal immigrants to New York City, DC, or Chicago. The amount of people is nothing compared to what small border towns receive every single day.
