Chicago Mayor Lightfoot Quietly Moves Illegal Immigrants to the Suburbs

TX Gov. Abbott exposed another Democrat on the national stage. This is delicious.

Dying. DYING.

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot, like every other Chicago politician, showed the nation why Chicago is so windy.

The hot air from the politicians! It’s windy because of the hot air from the politicians.

Lightfoot welcomed the illegal immigrants after Texas Gov. Greg Abbott bused a few of them to the sanctuary city. She said they would greet and help these people, unlike the awful and un-Christian Abbott:

“This is such an important moment for Chicago as our city has been a sanctuary for thousands of newcomers. We are welcoming them and we will not turn our backs on those who need our help the most,” Lightfoot said last Wednesday in a statement.

“We understand that many are fleeing violent, traumatic, or otherwise unstable environments,” the statement continued. “We will respond with essential services while these individuals navigate the next steps of their journey and our community partners have been working diligently to provide a safety net.”

Then why did Lightfoot ship a bunch of illegal immigrants to the suburbs?!

Burr Ridge Mayor Gary Grasso had no idea Lightfoot sent illegal immigrants to his city. From NBC Chicago:

As more buses of migrants arrive in Chicago from Texas — part of a controversial plan from Gov. Greg Abbott’s administration that is sending asylum-seekers off to northern, Democrat-led “sanctuary cities” — the mayor of a western Chicago suburb says he was left in the dark after 64 migrants arrived in his village this week.

“As we sit here today, right now, I have not gotten an official word from the city, from the state, or Cook County,” Burr Ridge Mayor Gary Grasso told NBC 5 Thursday in an interview.

In a statement, the village of Burr Ridge confirmed it received 64 refugees Wednesday, which were transported from the Salvation Army Shield of Hope in Chicago. The refugees were ultimately assigned to temporary hotel housing in Burr Ridge.

“Neither village elected officials nor staff were consulted or contacted about this decision and we are now gathering information to keep our community updated.”

Grasso said he has no problem having the people coming to his town, but he’d prefer a heads-up.

The Illinois Department of Human Services released a generic statement instead of explaining why the state is not working with the cities and suburbs:

In a statement, the Illinois Department of Human Services said the state has so far welcomed nearly 300 migrants, refugees, asylum seekers and immigrants, “most coming to Illinois with only the clothes on their backs.”

In a request for comment, the state told NBC 5 ” Many [migrants] are receiving temporary shelter in urban and suburban hotels that have provided refuge for vulnerable families from Afghanistan and other parts of the world. We are grateful for the hospitality and care they have received from individuals and organizations across Illinois.”

“We will continue taking action to ensure everyone in Illinois has access to shelter, food, healthcare, and other basic, essential supports,” the statement continued. “We anticipate that the State of Texas will continue to bus migrants to Illinois, and we remain committed to helping welcome new arrivals in a responsible, orderly and compassionate way.”

The department is even telling illegal immigrants not to speak to the media.

It’s no wonder the department is doing that because the people have nothing nice to say about officials.

The Democrats are learning it’s more than just declaring yourself a sanctuary city or state. There’s a lot more to it. The illegal immigrants and others lashed out at the officials for not doing anything:

“They’ve treated us well, but they’re not telling us what’s going on or where are we going next,” said Eglee Velazquez, a mother of three. “We need a home, my husband needs a job and my kids need to go to school. We are tired.”

Though grateful to have a comfortable bed, plenty of food and clean clothes to wear, the group is concerned they will face isolation from being far away from the city, and that the distance will make it harder to seek help and make connections on their own to find permanent housing and find work, they said.

Other grassroots activists and elected officials have also voiced their concern that the steps the state and city are taking to not only welcome migrants, but to provide them with a comprehensive guide to establish themselves in the Chicago area, are not enough. After a journey of nearly three months from their native town in Venezuela, fleeing extreme poverty and an authoritarian regime, most are desperately looking for a final stop of their siege, Baltazar Enriquez from the Little Village Community Council said.

Enriquez and several volunteers from the organization were at Union Station when the first buses from Texas arrived and have been in contact with some migrants despite not working with the city or the state officially. The group has connected some migrants to jobs and a permanent place to live. They also have given them clothes and activated several phones lines for them.

“Let’s be honest, that’s all they need and for that, they need to be near other immigrants that have done the same in the past. We help each other out,” Enriquez said. “But I don’t know what’s the plan that the state and local government have.”

I. Am. Dying.

Abbott is showing the Democrats’ hypocrisy regarding immigration. He is not even sending a lot of illegal immigrants to New York City, DC, or Chicago. The amount of people is nothing compared to what small border towns receive every single day.

Bus them right back to Chicago, right at Mayor Frogface’s front door where she can welcome them personally.

47 (You know who you are), hunt them down and ship them back. Every last one.

So the suburban mayor essentially welcomes them. Wonder if the constituents feel the same. Doesn’t matter, clearly, anyway.

The country’s immigration laws do not exist. America will not survive this.

“and that the distance will make it harder to seek help and make connections on their own to find permanent housing and find work, they said.”

Isn’t it illegal for them to work?

It’s illegal for them to work here, too, but try to find a construction crew anywhere without a few. Same for roofers, pavers, etc.

Their SEIGE should have ended in Mexico.

I don’t think so. As I understand it they’re given temporary work permits while their “asylum” cases are being processed, which could take years.

There is a LOT of money in Burr Ridge…traders, lawyers, physicians, et al.
While they don’t vote for Chicago mayor, it is a fairly liberal suburb.
Heh.

Biden reportedly won Burr Ridge by a few percent in 2020.

So they’re getting what they voted for.

The ones who voted for Trump are almost certainly wealthy enough to move to a red state. I encourage them to do so.

Send them to Barrington Hills. See how that flies.

Chicago is just making room for more bus loads from TX. Go Abbott.

This is so hilarious and typical. The big cities always have hot air big talk progressive mouthpieces that think that they own the suburbs around them despite being out of their jurisdiction.

This is especially true in Illinois. The City of Chicago essentially controls the politics of the entire state. Coupled with the fact that Chicago politics are notoriously corrupt, it makes the entire state a nasty shithole.

It’s a shame, because the rest of Illinois would be decent if Crook County would just sink into Lake Michigan.

Where’d this idea of taking care of everyone with taxpayer monies come from, anyway?

It’s much easier to feel virtuous about spending other people’s money on what were traditionally a function of faith based charities.

Another aspect of how d/prog differ from us in basic philosophy. We believe in individual rights, merit, responsibility and action. The d/prog is all about the group or tribe. They happen to control the levers of power for the largest tribe; taxpayers.

“Though grateful to have a comfortable bed, plenty of food and clean clothes to wear… “We need a home, my husband needs a job and my kids need to go to school. We are tired.”

They need, need, need. And they are tired. ¡Que lastima!

Now that they have crossed the border, over which an illegitimate president welcomed them, it’s your duty to fulfill their every need.

They are rubbing your lamp, genie — respond!

” “We need a home, my husband needs a job and my kids need to go to school. We are tired.””

The hell with citizens, illegals have “needs”.

What ever happened to foreign aid? What? You mean the countries they came from are still getting it?

malclave in reply to Sanddog. | September 11, 2022 at 12:34 am

At least it sounds like they want to work instead of just living off of taxpayers.

Dimsdale in reply to malclave. | September 11, 2022 at 10:49 am

They’ll learn; democrat communists can’t afford to have them working. It makes them less or not dependent on their bigoted aid.

The thing about that is many working poor still depend on govt programs for housing and medical services. Sure it’s better to have the dignity of being productively employed but realistically many corps have built their wage and benefits around this model.

Try and zero out federal housing programs and Obama care or Medicaid and you will very swiftly see how many vested interests are addicted to Uncle Sugar. Hell the poverty line stats disregard transfer payments and subsidies by design.

It just upsets me to no end

Go back to your home, your home is not here and we owe you nothing

    Nothing

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot bused 64 immigrants to the village of Burr Ridge.

Why? Did Lightfoot’s rich supporters put in a request for slaves to cut their lawns? Wax the car? Clean the house? Cook their meals?

Burr Ridge never declared they were a sanctuary city, Chicago did.

‘“They’ve treated us well, but they’re not telling us what’s going on or where are we going next,” said Eglee Velazquez, a mother of three. “We need a home, my husband needs a job and my kids need to go to school. We are tired.”’

Get out of my country.

Under the Illinois Safety, Accountability, Fairness and Equity-Today Act, they can now move the illegal aliens right on to your property and there is nothing you can do about it:

More Democratic hypocrisy, it’s bad for a republican to bus people, but it fine for a democrat. At least Lightfoot knew they were coming, but she hasn’t had the courtesy to notify the destinations she bused people to,

So, it the hotel giving them “points?” During WuFlu it seemed to go better if I spent a “night out” each week while everyone was cooped up. Actually, way way cheaper than family therapy. Anyhoo, I am at the point with Best Western Rewards where my status is getting me over 7,000 pts a night. SuWeet. Interestingly, there are no cheap motel rooms in the PDX area because they are all being used to house the homeless. and trust me, I don’t imagine that anyone else will ever want to stay in any of them once, and if, this is ever over. Fire might be the only useful disinfectant.

Jeez, get a load of that broad. She, her husband and her kids need a house, a job and schools? Why in the world does she think that someone is just going to hand her that, for free?
