Residents of Philadelphia Say City is Turning Into a ‘War Zone’

“Sound like Beirut out here yesterday and I never been to Beirut but it sound like Beirut out here yesterday”

Violent crime is a persistent problem in cities all over the country. In Philadelphia, things are getting so bad that some residents describe the city as a war zone.

Why is this being permitted to continue?

Julio Rosas writes at Townhall:

Philly Residents Sound the Alarm on the City Turning Into a ‘War Zone’

Residents in Philadelphia are growing frustrated at the lack of public safety as the city continues to see an increase in gun violence.

One of the latest incident occurred in West Philadelphia where a shooters in car fired around 100 rounds at a group of individuals near a recreational center where children were playing at this week. A total of five people were shot in the incident.

“Something has to give…anywhere you go, it’s a problem, but Philadelphia is getting out of hand,” Carmela Truell told CBS Philly. “It’s to the point I want to take my son and go.”

“Sound like Beirut out here yesterday and I never been to Beirut but it sound like Beirut out here yesterday…exactly like a war zone,” Jamar Muhammad, who was nearby, said about the shooting.

Muhammad said he has no plans on moving away from West Philadelphia.

Look at this insane map of crimes in the city:

A significant number of the victims are children:

From NBC 10 in Philadelphia:

Shooting at Birthday Party Inside Philly Home Leaves 4 Teens Hurt

A birthday party inside a North Philadelphia home ended with four young people shot, the latest young victims of Philadelphia’s ongoing gun violence problem.

The gunmen fired on the first floor and even down in the basement of the home along the 2800 block of Bonsall Street, near West Somerset Street, around 11:20 p.m. Wednesday, Philadelphia Police said.

Police arrived to the home to find the teenagers shot, Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said.

A 15-year-old girl was shot in the back and leg; a 16-year-old boy was shot in the leg; a 17-year-old woman was shot in the leg and a 16-year-old girl was grazed by a bullet on her leg, police said.

All four shooting victims were hospitalized in stable condition, Small said.

The gunfire took place inside one of the girls’ home.

“It was a birthday party for a 17-year-old inside of that property and we believe there were about 15 to 20 teenagers and young adults inside,” Small said.

The youngest of the people in the home was just 11 years old, Small said.

People must demand that Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney and DA Larry Krasner take action and clean up the city.

I’ll leave you with this video I recently noticed on Twitter. This is Philadelphia in 2022. It looks like a third-world country.

This destruction has been deliberate. Philly is lost.

Never to be noticed or admitted.

Philly is a DEMOCRAT-run city spanning decades. And this pattern of destruction of families and property is replicated across the country whenever DEMOCRATS get control.

A youtuber named kimgary has video after video of Kennsington Avenue in Philly, the country’s largest open-air drug market,

Also never brought up — Pennsylvania has reasonably unintrusive firearms ownership and carry laws… EXCEPT in Philadelphia. Philadelphia has been clawing tooth and nail against state preemption laws, and setting up their own little New Jersey, and now you see the result.

Same as New York City did to New York… except in that case, they managed to co-opt the state government, at which Philadelphia has so far been unsuccessful.

    Ditto for Baltimore and Chicago.

Video of a mob ransacking an LA 7-Eleven just confirms that when you refuse to hold criminals accountable they get worse.

OMG OMG, are you saying those darn WHITE SUPREMACISTS are even invading 7-11s now???Why won’t ANYONE in authority, do ANYTHING to STOP the SCOURGE of WHITE SUPREMACY–the officially-recognized GREATEST DANGER THIS COUNTRY FACES????

If you view the Tucker video mentioned in another of today’s postings, you’ll see statements from Oz’s opponent. The man is, quite frankly, a stereotypical thug, and is currently the assistant AG, sharing responsibility for the current mess. He has an extremely in-your face tattoo on his right forearm that has been inked over — and not in an artful way, but with a great big black redaction rectangle, making it look like he has a battery compartment. I wonder what that tattoo used to say before he ran for office?

“Violent crime is a persistent problem in Democrat run cities all over the country.”

Dem socialists hate police and love perps. A recipe for disaster.

Please tell me each and every Republican candidate will run commercials highlighting the destruction….

“Why is this being allowed to continue”? Democrats in continued control yes, but these Democrats are now different. What Philly is experiencing and other Dem strongholds as well is the concept of Weaponized Governmental Failure. The deliberate act of failing to perform the basic functions of government services while still getting paid. It is hard work to manage large agencies and respond to voters concerns while speaking to the media and all the other difficult civic duties. Better way to advance ‘cultural Marxism’ is to neglect the citizens complaints as ‘racism’, DEI not yet implemented, too little ‘equity’ in government, systemic racism, insufficient wokeism etc etc. Blame all problems on all enemies of ‘Democrats’ and then double down on misgoverning when confronted with real problems and real numbers of failed policy.

Subotai Bahadur in reply to Dimsdale. | August 19, 2022 at 4:06 pm

GOPe candidates do not really want to win, they just want a share of the graft. They will NOT run those commercials.

Can we say the truth out loud?
I only see one ethnic group abusing a constitutional right.
Don’t take away my right to defense.

Why isn’t anyone in authority such as FBI director Christopher Wray doing anything meaningful to stop the scourge of WHITE SUPREMACISTS who are the OBVIOUS CAUSE of all this violence in Philadelphia???? WHITE SUPREMACISTS have INVADED Philly and are as commonplace as CHEESESTEAKS. Oh won’t someone THINK OF THE CHILDREN?

To solve this problem the police must be totally defunded and replaced by mental health, crisis intervention, outreach facilitators. Then after the animals have tortured, raped and killed them all, order will be restored in a popular backlash.

“Then after the animals have tortured, raped and killed them all, order will be restored in a popular backlash.”

I’m not as optimistic as you that current law-abiding citizens of blue cities will ever backlash against the criminals. Philadelphians, for example, are so far gone these days that a majority of them feel it’s their moral obligation to suffer victimhood, as a form of reparations. I fear this attitude will take at least 2 generations to change, if ever.

JackinSilverSpring | August 19, 2022 at 10:15 am

You get the government you voted for. You vote for a government hostile to police and friendly to criminals, and now you complain about crime? Unless you change your ways, you will have to sleep in the bed you made.

Exactly. Not long ago there were at least Democrats in power that understood the need for law enforcement, but the recent batch is all pro “BLM” rhetoric and blame the police. Let everyone know that there is no effort to keep guns off the street, and no effort to prosecute when found, and this is what you get.
The only question is whether they believe their own rhetoric or do they just want to see everything burn so that the proverbial utopia will supposedly arise from the ashes.
    Idk.

The Gentle Grizzly in reply to MDP. | August 19, 2022 at 2:57 pm

The only guns being kept off the streets are for those wanting to defend themselves. I imagine you need to be well-connected to get a carry permit there.

Subotai Bahadur in reply to MDP. | August 19, 2022 at 4:14 pm

It is not a matter of “keeping guns off the street”. I live in Colorado, and I was in a neighboring town shopping on their main street. Saw plenty of law abiding citizens openly carrying and felt safe.

The key in the short term is keeping guns out of the hands of previously convicted felons. In Democrat cities it is not uncommon for there to be a long term sentence for a convicted felon to be carrying or possessing a firearm. And in Democrat cities, the first charge that they drop is carrying or possessing a firearm by a convicted felon. Because said felon is a protected class and that charge is easily proved it it gets to court. They either had it or didn’t. So Democrats drop the charges and the armed criminals stay on the streets.

JackinSilverSpring in reply to Subotai Bahadur. | August 19, 2022 at 7:29 pm

But of course, law abiding citizens have to jump through hoops to get a carry permit. Criminals don’t need no stinkin’ permits.

To clarify, I meant keeping illegal guns off of the street, which is no longer a priority.
As far as legal permits, I have several friends with concealed carry permits, never heard any complaints of it being hard to get.
Open carry? Don’t know what the law is, never seen it here, or Ohio, or Wisconsin, except once when the fellow in a Duluth Trading store said he had just been at a competition and was still wearing it. Haven’t seen it in Texas or Idaho either, though my stints there were short.
There have been self defense shootings by store clerks, car-jack victims and home invasion victims that have cleared the person acting in self defense.
The problem I was referring to is as you state, criminals including convicted felons on the street with illegal guns and no effort to reduce the problem.

taurus the judge | August 19, 2022 at 10:16 am

All this violence is in direct response to the existence of both laws and law enforcement.

The people must have the inalienable right and freedom to commit these crimes as their just due for all the bad things that have happened to mankind.

This is why Trump must be destroyed because he will infringe on those equity based crimes and their right to do so.

Can you imagine the suffering these mostly good criminals would be forced to endure if there was a threat of law and order held over their heads?

Its unthinkable. Its horrible. Its not even FAIR!!

Get with the program and bring all your financial information while you are prepared for re-education in the fundamentally new order.

YOU MUST COMPLY

They misspelled “Philthydelphia” …

Paging Larry Krasner, POS.

It’s a shame. After all, hundreds of thousands of Philadelphia voters sent in their pre-printed ballots at 3:00 am on election eve to propel Biden to victory. And this is the thanks they get?

A MoFo Bronx DA just reduced the attempted murder charge for a perp with a long record who sucker punched from behind a resident now in the hospital in critical condition with a brain bleed. No bail, back on the streets. Governor Hochul could remove the DA but will not. Anyone who does not vote for Zeldin for Governor, who has promised to remove these loser DAs, deserves the crime they will get.

I’ve said this in other threads and at other sites: vigilantism and street justice WILL make a return.

On another type of crime, there was child molestation in the olden days of 60 years ago, but the local fathers and other concerned adults took car of the problem.

Memo for Philly voters: You broke it, you bought it.

There a series of videos on YouTube of the Kensington section of Philadelphia where so many of the youth are spaced out on drugs.
Interesting point in the video mentions that none of these drug addicts are immigrants.

Philadelphians overwhelmingly voted in and the re-elected DA Krasner.

Philadelphians obviously want to die. Let them.

Play stupid lefty games, win stupid lefty prizes.

“Philadelphia is turning into a war zone!”

Turning?

Ha ha. That’s funny right there.

The Gentle Grizzly | August 19, 2022 at 2:34 pm

It’s been a violent garbage pit for decades. Even riding the commuter train into town, the scenes either side of the tracks look like Berlin three days after VE Day.

A very dear friend met with extreme financial reversals and ended up in Philly, working a counter in Macy’s so he could eat. Got so badly mugged and thrashed on night that he was only identified by his fingerprints. He was in the national database due to his past work in a field of finance that required it. He was left naked, multiple knife wounds, and several broken bones.

When he was recovered enough to return to work, it wasn’t a month and he got beaten and robbed again.

Oh, and, “valedictorians” did it in each case.

The stress ended up killing him from a massive heart attack.

“Residents of Philadelphia Say City is Turning Into a ‘War Zone’”

And yet they still vote Democrat so they must like it that way.

Dumb-o-crats have been running American cities into the ground, coddling criminals and undermining police and public safety over the course of their exclusive reigns, for decades. See Detroit, New York, Washington, D.C., Chicago, San Francisco, Seattle, Los Angeles, St. Louis, etc. Nothing new under the Sun.

The only citizens living in crime-infested, Dumb-o-crat-mismanaged cities that I feel sympathy for, and, who genuinely deserve sympathy, are the ones who voted for GOP candidates, however futile the exercise. Everyone else voted for the outcome that they now complain about.

Alex deWynter | August 20, 2022 at 1:41 pm

Philly’s last Republican mayor left office in 1952. Gooder and harder, Philly. Gooder and harder.

One word: Krasner.

It was the thing to do. Liberals hated him. Blacks hated him. The media hated him. He lived in a row home in Cedarbrook. They recruited the country to hate him. He was a Democrat. He was made a pariah and voted (run) out of office. Now, you can all live with the consequences.

His name was Frank Rizzo.
