Liz Cheney Launching Anti-Trump PAC and Might Run for President

Liz Cheney Launching Anti-Trump PAC and Might Run for President

“I believe that Donald Trump continues to pose a very grave threat — a risk to our republic…”

Poor Liz Cheney. Harriet Hageman, who had former President Donald Trump’s support, blew out the sitting Wyoming representative in Tuesday’s primary.

Like any other politician *cough*Hillary*cough*, Cheney cannot read the tea leaves. No one likes you.

Like Hillary, Lizzy won’t go away. She lamented her loss on The Today Show on Wednesday morning, hinting she might run for president. If she does, it’s just to be a pain in the butt for Trump:

“I will be doing whatever it takes to keep Donald Trump out of the Oval Office,” Cheney told TODAY, adding running for president “is something I’m thinking about and I’ll make a decision in the coming months.”

The congresswoman won her primary in 2020 with 73% of the vote, and Cheney told TODAY it would have been easy to stay on that path to victory.

“But that path would have required that I accept, that I embrace, that I perpetuate the ‘Big Lie,’ and I’ve been very clear at every moment since January 6 that there are some things that have got to be above politics — that there’s no political office that is more important than the principles that we take an oath to defend,” she said.

“I believe that Donald Trump continues to pose a very grave threat — a risk to our republic — and I think defeating him is going to require a broad and united front of Republicans, Democrats and independents and that’s what I intend to be a part of,” she said.

At least Cheney calls us a republic. I cannot stand it when people say we’re a democracy. We are a republic. No one should want a democracy.

Anyway!

Cheney also formed an anti-Trump PAC right after the results became official:

Hours after her loss, Ms. Cheney filed with the Federal Election Commission to transfer remaining cash from her federal campaign account to a new political-action committee. At the end of July, she had more than $7 million cash on hand, according to FEC filings. Her leadership PAC is called “The Great Task,” a reference to Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address, in which he said the task was to save the union and the tradition of representative democracy in the U.S.

The FEC filing was partly procedural because Ms. Cheney is no longer an active candidate and needed a new entity to accept donations.

In the coming weeks, Ms. Cheney is expected to launch a political organization to continue her work, said a person familiar with her plans. She is expected to manage it independently and not partner with any outside groups that are also working to block a successful presidential bid by Mr. Trump.

GOP consultant Alex Conant told The Wall Street Journal that Cheney “could be a significant factor in 2024.” I don’t know about that:

While Ms. Cheney’s chances of winning the GOP nomination would be slim—she just lost re-election in one of the reddest states in the country—some GOP strategists say she could cause headaches for Mr. Trump as his chief antagonist, if he decides to make another presidential run, which he is considering.

“Cheney’s laser focus on Trump and ability to command media attention means she could be a significant factor in 2024,” said GOP consultant Alex Conant, who led communications for Sen. Marco Rubio’s 2016 presidential campaign and served as a spokesman in the second Bush White House. “She won’t be the nominee, but she’ll be a factor, especially if she can qualify for the primary debates. Nobody wanted to challenge Trump in 2015. Now we’ll have a candidate doing nothing but constantly challenging him.”

Cheney lost by nearly 40 points. It did not take long for the results to come in as well. Ten Republicans voted to impeach Trump. Only two of them won their primaries!

Maybe listen to the constituents? People are having a tough time putting food on the table. We’re living paycheck-to-paycheck. Most people aren’t in the mood for Trump Derangement Syndrome and whatever happened on January 6.

“I will be doing whatever it takes to keep Donald Trump out of the Oval Office,”

How can she say this, and still sit on the Jan 6th committee? There is simply no pretense of impartiality left to her, nor any pretense of her role on the committee being anything other than purely political.

alien in reply to bigskydoc. | August 17, 2022 at 7:23 pm

    There never was.

And why wouldn’t she want to feel this way? The piece of sh*t increased her wealth 600% since she came into Congress.

Trump exposed the entire game: our federal government is nothing more than a criminal gang, with the FBI, IRS and CIA their enforcers.

Milhouse in reply to bigskydoc. | August 18, 2022 at 12:25 am

I don’t understand your question. Why would she not continue to sit on the committee? The committee has never pretended to be impartial or nonpolitical. It’s a congressional committee, not an independent inquiry. And it’s a congressional committee all of whose members were chosen by Nancy Pelosi, who has never pretended to be anything but political. So Cheney saying this doesn’t change anything.

lichau in reply to Milhouse. | August 18, 2022 at 12:15 pm

The “select committee” is billed as being an “investigation”. “Investigation” has the common implication of some degree of impartiality. I am not lawyer, it might be a legal term of art with more precise definition, but probably not.

If it were actually an investigation, one would expect that the investigators would be generally unbiased, or at least there would be investigators with somewhat offsetting biases.

What it is, in fact, is pretty much a taxpayer funded PAC. Everyone on the committee voted to impeach Trump.

The outcome was predetermined, the whole circus is simply to support the dry-lab report.

      I wholly support:

“Trump exposed the entire game: our federal government is nothing more than a criminal gang, with the FBI, IRS and CIA their enforcers.”

A show trial? She was an appropriate choice and certainly has no reason to recuse herself. An investigation? She should never have been chosen, a politician with integrity, looking at the composition of the committee, would not have accepted the assignment. Note–politician with integrity MIGHT be a non-void set, but pretty close.

Grifters go where the grifting is good, and it has been so very good to Daddy Dick’s little girl.

She has made $40 million since going to congress on a $200K salary. She is just now openingly moving her grift game to DC and Northern Virginia.

Milhouse in reply to EBL. | August 18, 2022 at 10:57 am

There is no factual basis for the claim that she has made $40M in the past 4 years.

That hysterical report is based entirely on the fact that she reported her and her husband’s combined assets as being between $10M and $44M. There is no reason to suppose that it’s at the higher end of that range rather than the lower end.

An increase from $7M to somewhere north of $10M is the natural consequence of asset values increasing. From what I’ve read it seems the original $7M was mostly composed of a large shareholding in Citibank, and her husband’s partnership share in his law firm. Both of those will probably have increased significantly in value, for reasons having nothing to do with her or her congressional seat. The increase would probably be exactly the same had she spent the last four years being a society lady of leisure.

lichau in reply to Milhouse. | August 18, 2022 at 11:29 am

I do not apologize for being cynical when it comes to the Swamp. The key word is “reported”. I seriously doubt that politicians get professional appraisals of their holdings when they do this reporting. As everything they do, they try to make themselves look good. I don’t see inflating the value of their assets (Trump being a notable exception) serves them well politically. While you make a good point that the $44M has no objective basis–other than the upper range–neither does the $10M.

Professional appraisals. I have some experience with such. For a while, I was required by my Board to get an annual appraisal of the stock value of the privately held company I was running–we had a board member/founder whose entire net worth was basically his stock. I would meet with the “appraiser”. It was a kabuki dance. He didn’t directly ask what I wanted the appraisal to be (I didn’t much care), but the questions were certainly leading. Strangely, the appraisal would come out a tad lower than the leading questions would suggest. Ultimately, I convinced the Board that we could save the fee by determining it ourselves. (As I recall, the last self determination was about $1/share. We sold the company within a year later for $5/share.)

So, I view that her political interests do not align with a high number. Hence, the $44M is, in my opinion, as suspect as is the $10M. What is certain is that she is a wealthy woman by the net worth measure, and her connections make her far wealthier.

On Trump. I view that his bluster as to being worth $10B or so is just that–bluster. OTOH, anyone whose personal ride is a Boeing 757 ain’t poor. Just filling it with Jet A would be a one time event for most of us. Pilots, inspections, routine maintenance, etc. I owned a Bonanza for a number of years. Expensive ride, my guess is 100X for a 757. Maybe 1000X.

The fundamental problem is that our ruling class lives in an entirely different economic world than the rest of us. Such it has always been.

Dimsdale in reply to bigskydoc. | August 18, 2022 at 10:21 am

Maybe we need an anti-Liz Cheney PAC…

    User-Name in reply to bigskydoc. | August 18, 2022 at 10:22 am

Badges? They don’t need no stinkin’ badges.

Looking forward to seeing what nickname Trump chooses for her, though.

She follows in the tradition of so many losers who relished being introduced for the rest of their lives with the addendum: “and former candidate for President of the United States”.

Another communist traitor acting like a communist traitor. What else is new?

She can run wearing a stove pipe hat!

She’s good for memes at this point. MAGA slammed the door in her face.

I just watched the TV trailer to “Bring It”. She’s not on that either. She didn’t make the cut.

How can she not understand she has zero influence at this point? She’s delirious.

Olinser in reply to Chewbacca. | August 17, 2022 at 7:44 pm

Because she lives in DC and surrounds herself with liberals who are all telling her how stunning and brave she is, and that so many ‘conservatives’ are telling them that they wished they could vote for her!

It’s what happens to everybody in the DC echo chamber. The same people that set $150 million on fire trying to make Jeb! (please clap) a thing.

They haven’t had a conversation with an actual conservative in years.

Dimsdale in reply to Olinser. | August 18, 2022 at 10:24 am

Remember the media darling, Cindy Sheehan?

Nobody else does either. Used by the left and tossed, like used toilet paper.

She just needs a place to park her bribes.

Take note of anybody that donates to her.

Their opinions on any conservative topic can be safely ignored for the rest of their lives, because they’re either Democrats, or too stupid and divorced from reality to ever bother listening to ever again.

Milhouse in reply to Olinser. | August 18, 2022 at 10:58 am

True, unless they’re personal friends, who will throw money down the drain for the sake of that friendship without necessarily agreeing with her.

lichau in reply to Milhouse. | August 18, 2022 at 11:32 am

Possible. OTOH, my experience with high net worth individuals is that they rarely write a check without an expectation of a return.

Karen

Grifter’s gotta have something going or she can’t grift.

The level of delusional narcissism is incredible. Hey Liz, GO AWAY, spend that ill-gotten $30 million on some island far from America.

Will be be teaching up with The Mailmans Son for future endeavors?

He’s been might quiet the last few years

Hell hath no fury…

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Ahab really wants to get that whale

These nasty gargoyles have NO idea how repulsive and hateful they are! From Lincoln Liz to Shillary, to Obozo and Putrified Pierre and speaking of him, every other RINO, plus. all the alphabet news sub-humans, the FBI and IRS. The list is miles long.

Every one of them is living in a fantasy world built of sewage. You really have to laugh at them all. In truth what really needs to happen is to do to all of them exactly what they want to do to us, nest-ce-pas?

Well, the grift ain’t gonna run itself…

Colonel Travis | August 17, 2022 at 9:21 pm

On its face, it’s easy to think – how stupid can she be to not understand that she isn’t hurting Donald Trump, and is in fact, helping him?

She knows this and doesn’t care. She is doing this to enrich herself. She will be the 1% darling she could never be to Wyoming and America, running to the arms of the wealthy dumb who will pat her on the head and say “there, there, little one. Here’s a million dollars for being so brave.”

Big NeverTrumpism is a wonderful industry to be in if you don’t mind selling your soul.

CommoChief in reply to Colonel Travis. | August 17, 2022 at 10:09 pm

The sad part is these Jack legs seem to believe that if DJT got hit by a bus tomorrow that everyone would go back to the way things were. NeoCons would resume their ‘proper place’ by starting senseless but seemingly endless wars, outsourcing what’s left of American manufacturing, continue hollowing out the middle class, small businesses and small farms while sucking up and prostituting themselves to big money tech, pharma, ag, finance and defense contractors not to mention side gigs from corrupt autocratic regimes.

In return we will all be happy with slightly smaller govt than the d/prog propose and a reduction in the capital gains tax. These people really can’t face the truth that a paradigm shift has occurred and the modern republican party is a now a multiethnic, working and middle class coalition of Jacksonians. Like an aging beauty their day has passed and they refuse to accept it.

They really are stupid. Trump simply woke a bunch of people up, and it ain’t going back in the toothpaste tube.

Colonel Travis in reply to CommoChief. | August 18, 2022 at 12:50 am

Hope the tide really is turning. It will take time to see if it is. I remember the tea party movement was kind of exciting there for a while but petered out. My instinct tells me this is different. The wrongs against the people are more severe this time around.

And reinforced by the failed Biden pResidency.

taurus the judge in reply to Colonel Travis. | August 18, 2022 at 12:17 pm

I’m there with you on that Colonel.

The TEA party was a great idea ( and quite correct) but at that time the sheeple were still comfortable with a finely developed sense of ” that will never happen here”.

The left has shattered even the “illusion” that they are not deliberately destroying every part and parcel of what we know is as the USA.

The GOPe/RINO ( by both word and deed) overwhelmingly is either supporting the efforts of the left as an alliance or either really is too weak to do anything. ( I don’t believe they are weak either)

My instinct and observations all around my projects as i travel show me this time is radically different than even 2020. People are really hurting and quite fearful now where they really never were before.

Maybe that’s what it took for a wake up call.

JohnSmith100 in reply to Colonel Travis. | August 17, 2022 at 11:42 pm

I am looking forward to Trumps skewering her.

Dont’ give her credit for the using “The Republic”.

It’s only a republic if you can keep it, and wannabe oligarchs like Cheney are the ones that erode it away piece by piece. She’s every Democrat’s dream RINO…that should tell you everything you need to know about her.

“GOP consultant Alex Conant told The Wall Street Journal that Cheney “could be a significant factor in 2024.””

Yea, and she could be deader than a doornail politically. Only a “GOP” asshole could find something to be positive about.

She’s dead Jim.

Comanche Voter | August 17, 2022 at 11:06 pm

Take a hike Liz. Cowboys everywhere, and certainly in Wyoming recognize bovine by product when they smell it. You didn’t represent them, and they, quite properly, threw you out. Go run for office in one of the Congressional districts around Washington–you live in one of them. Run for that office.

Why isn’t anyone asking which party would she take more votes from if she ran as an independent candidate in 2024? Ralph Nader likely cost Gore the election in 2000 with only 3% of the vote. IMO plenty of people would give her a ton of money to repeat that against Trump.

She’ll have as much success running for POTUS as Evan McMullin did.

Unless she lands a job as a Harpy on “The View”, I don’t expect we’ll be hearing much more from her.

Liz’ 15 minutes are up.

When a RINO wins a primary, Conservatives are all told to get in line and support them against the D.

When a Conservative wins a primary, no such calls are made for the RINO to support the winner against the D and, in fact, they almost never do. Instead, they openly support the D against the Conservative.

The first rule of progressive liberal club…

Why would she form her own anti-Trump PAC when the FBI already exists?

2smartforlibs | August 18, 2022 at 8:21 am

A perfect example of an out-of-touch politician.

Steven Brizel | August 18, 2022 at 8:45 am

Cheney could not get elected as a dogcatcher as a Republican and her value to the woke world is solely as someone who walked away from her constituents

She is better suited to become a house maid in one of Obama’s mansions.

taurus the judge | August 18, 2022 at 9:21 am

I have a feeling that other than the obvious ( her self enrichment)…..

She not only is going to “try” to run (as independent), she will probably be heavily financed by the left.

I believe the left believes that she might be able to siphon off money and a few votes away from Trump. ( they know she cant win but putting her in the WH isn’t the goal or priority- keeping Trump out is)

Just a theory

CommoChief in reply to taurus the judge. | August 18, 2022 at 10:51 am

I agree that the d/prog would view her candidacy in that light. IMO, the reality is Cheney would get votes from the small number of ‘never Trump’ and disaffected d/prog and independents who would have otherwise stayed home because they wouldn’t pull the lever for Biden or Trump.

Liz certainly has a strong ego. With that arrogance she could easily be a “prosperity prophet”, a mental-facility inmate thinking she is Napoleon or a physician. She doesn’t have to be stuck in this rut of playing the role of the scorned lover of Trump who will not stop until she has revenge.

““But that path would have required that I accept, that I embrace, that I perpetuate the ‘Big Lie,….’ ”

She is! The Big Lie that Biden “won” the election!

““I believe that Donald Trump continues to pose a very grave threat — a risk to our republic — and I think defeating him is going to require a broad and united front of Republicans, Democrats and independents and that’s what I intend to be a part of,” she said.”

If President Trump were such a “grave threat,” shouldn’t she be able to demonstrate that? She is blowing smoke rings so far.

How does she feel about the current Biden abomination and its effects on the country?

taurus the judge in reply to Dimsdale. | August 18, 2022 at 10:51 am

    @Dimsdale

You>>> If President Trump were such a “grave threat,” shouldn’t she be able to demonstrate that? She is blowing smoke rings so far.

How does she feel about the current Biden abomination and its effects on the country?

Those 2 points need to be brought up again and keep them up.

Instead of talking points, I want our RINO elite to tell me specifically and exactly what this “grave threat” is and what Trump EXACTLY did?

(I would like to know also what exactly is “broken” with the immigration system, social security and all the other political hyperbole)

Bigger than that however is that “deafening silence” on how bad Brandon is doing. One would think they would be shouting this from the mountain tops and using it for all its worth to get support, money and votes.

This is what tells me the GOPe/RINO class is either actually in league with the left OR have a shared parallel path in many areas so the left is doing what they want.

Her friends need to stage an intervention–she’s delusional

Panhandle Frank | August 18, 2022 at 12:00 pm

It’s not Donald, Liz.

It’s Ron.

Liz is about as stupid as the detached dead tumbleweeds blowing on the plains!

This IS her next gig. These deals are promised before she ever voted for impeachment or the January 6 committee. She’ll make millions “running for president” and it won’t matter what the results are as long as she continues to carry the banner of ‘Republican against Trump’.

As a Democrat, right?

Oh, Lincoln Project part 2? Liz is part of the Progressive party seeking to bring down this society
