Ex-NY Gov. Cuomo: ‘DOJ Must Immediately Explain the Reason for Its Raid’ of Trump’s Mar-a-Lago

Ex-NY Gov. Cuomo: ‘DOJ Must Immediately Explain the Reason for Its Raid’ of Trump’s Mar-a-Lago

One response: “When Cuomo realizes this could be a MASSIVE f***up for the FBI and the Biden admin, you know they have problems.”

Uh, what?

Ex-NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo, a Democrat, went against the grain regarding the raid on Trump’s Mar-a-Lago.

Uh, what?

I’m totally confused.

And there is no connection whatsoever that Democrats in the Senate pulled an all-nighter over the weekend to get that bill passed before what happened Monday morning.

Wait, what? Andrew Cuomo has a good point? I’m confused and frightened.

Even a stopped Mayan calendar is right once every 5000 years or so.

taurus the judge in reply to rbj1. | August 9, 2022 at 12:53 pm

    Don’t be

I have a STRONG SUSPICION that the overwhelming amount of both Democrats and the GOPe/RINO had no knowledge ( fore) or input/approval into this action.

Back off 1000 meters and look objectively.

This is literally a “once in the history” moment and under suspicious circumstances at best.

Also, the “empty safe” and his “prosecutorial misconduct” comment leads me to believe POSSIBLY Trump was tipped off and set a trap of his own.

This “could” seal the fate of the left and cost them 22,24 and beyond very easily.

Here’s how. ( The old saying “if you take a shot at the king- you damn well better not miss”)

The Democrats- I can easily see many of the “non radical” elements in total shock/awe and disbelief and realize the monster is now out of control. That number may sit in silence and not vote or actively work against the socialist left or even aid the right. ( they didn’t convert but they realize the danger)

The GOPe/RINO- The G/R class lives in the realm of “controlled opposition” ( that’s their income stream). The left just showed them in no uncertain terms that they will do anything. This will tell the G/R class that when they no longer need “controlled opposition” because the left is now the DICTATOR- they will then become a threat and eliminated.

Do not be surprised to see a LOT of people all of a sudden have both a wake up call and a reality check.

Some of this surprise and outrage is very likely genuine. ( obviously not all)

We need to watch, observe, investigate then act.

Bitch McConnell still hasn’t said a word.

Hardly surprising from a ‘leader’ of his caliber.

taurus the judge in reply to Olinser. | August 9, 2022 at 1:26 pm

Not surprising at all but very telling indeed

JHogan in reply to Olinser. | August 9, 2022 at 2:03 pm

McConnell has no problem with what the FBI did.

Because TRUMP!!!! For him, the GOPe, NeverTrump Inc, and all hard core Dems anything required to Get Trump is automatically considered an acceptable exception to any and all laws and the Constitution. They consider Trump an existential threat.

They will take whatever steps are necessary to prevent him from becoming POTUS again. IMHO, including assassination. As Michael Anton has written, by any means necessary they will simply not allow Trump to become POTUS again

madisonian_123 in reply to taurus the judge. | August 9, 2022 at 1:19 pm

Have to admit, the reporting of an empty safe had me wondering if Trump was tipped off. I mean, who has a safe in their house in which they keep nothing at all?

        The_Mew_Cat in reply to madisonian_123. | August 9, 2022 at 1:30 pm

I have many safes in my house. Some of them have things in them, others do not.

        Marco100 in reply to madisonian_123. | August 9, 2022 at 3:34 pm

Lots of people who have a safe, don’t have anything in it. If the safe has been there a long time/from a prior owner, typically, they just cost too much money and are too heavy to easily remove and dispose of unless you absolutely have to. So they just sit there, empty.

Not just empty, but it was a brand new safe, for which they brought a special safe-cracker.

The_Mew_Cat in reply to taurus the judge. | August 9, 2022 at 1:29 pm

I suspect one indictment of Trump ha already been prepared over the records act, and it didn’t really matter whether they found anything yesterday or not. The boxes they grabbed are going over to other prosecutors in NY state and Fulton County as well as the J6 investigators. You have to assume that all efforts to get Trump are working together, and federal prosecutors are working with the state level ones to grab material housed in another state they could never grab themselves.

taurus the judge in reply to The_Mew_Cat. | August 9, 2022 at 2:34 pm

        @ Mew

        >>>I suspect one indictment of Trump ha already been prepared over the records act,

EXTREMELY UNLIKELY- here’s why. ( this isn’t the hill they are going to die on)

The POTUS is the end all final absolute authority on classification. ( there is no other and POTUS doesn’t have to ask permission) This is not something another President can revoke or undo either.

Regardless of what they found, all Trump has to do is “”say” he declassified it and the case is moot. (people who have never had security clearances may not understand how this works)

There is no lawful requirement for documentation, following a process or anything else.

So, they are not going to indict on this because even if they bought off a judge to start an indictment- this case ( based on the classification of documents against POTUS) is stillborn.

Yet they did it- that’s what leads me to believe this is a fear induced knee jerk reaction with a tight group of people for “something” because no prosecutor in their right mind would do this specific case.

There is a requirement for documentation – on the declassified documents, themselves. There are consequences for not marking classified information properly. That would have to be where their hope lies.

The_Mew_Cat in reply to taurus the judge. | August 9, 2022 at 5:08 pm

He may not be prosecuted over classification. That as too murky, as you say. No, they will prosecute over an archive violation and possibly a 1001 for lying to investigators from the Archives. All they have to prove is he retained records that he told Archive investigators that he doesn’t have.

DaveGinOly in reply to taurus the judge. | August 10, 2022 at 11:06 am

          Replying to GWB.
Yes, there are regs for the proper marking of classified material. But if Trump “declassified” the material, the regs no longer pertain to it. There are almost certainly no laws against having possession of unclassified material that’s improperly marked as “classified.”

    irv in reply to rbj1. | August 9, 2022 at 1:04 pm

He’s probably thinking that if they can raid an ex-president to keep him from running, they can do it to an ex-governor, too.

    Nohbody in reply to rbj1. | August 10, 2022 at 12:08 am

It’s just a defense of Democrats. See specifically his last line about the J6 hearings, which begs the question that the hearings are legitimate in the first place (they’re not).

It’s possible that a random neural misfire actually also got him thinking about how a firebrand Republican administration (stop laughing, it could happen 😛 ) in the future could use the FBI in a similar manner against Democrats. Not that the tactic was wrong regardless of the perpetrator and victim (it is, pure “banana republic” bull droppings), but that he and/or his “team” could be targeted similarly.

DaveGinOly in reply to Nohbody. | August 10, 2022 at 11:08 am

      Exactly.
Far from being a tweet of support, Cuomo is setting up the FBI to be the fall guy (the raid may “undermine any future investigations & legitimacy of the January 6 investigations”) should the Dems’ efforts fail to prevent Trump from running. He’s worried the raid may have been a mistake by the Dems, he is not condemning it for its effect on our political process or the harm it will do to our institutions, and showing no outrage on principle. He’d be perfectly happy if it was productive and harmed Trump.

Blind squirrels occasionally find acorns, broken clocks are correct twice per day and attention seeking narcissists seek attention every way they can. Still, Cuomo does seem to recognize the potential for danger in these actions. Whether at the polls in blowback or in creating a new standard for how outgoing political regimes should now expect to be treated by the victors.

JackinSilverSpring | August 9, 2022 at 10:50 am

James O’Keefe is raided because he had Ashley Biden’s diary, about which he published nothing and handed over to the police; President Trump is raided over some papers that might or might not belong to the government; Hunter is not raided although he possessed a firearm as an addict and in may be in possession of materials incriminating his father while his laptop seized by the FBI is conveniently lost somewhere in the Bureau; Hillary Clinton is not raided even though she used a non-governmental insecure computer to email classified information — do we see a pattern here? As others have pointed out, we are descending to a banana republic status, with the FBI acting as the stormtroopers of the Left, and reinforcing my call and other as well for its abolishment. It is interesting that a partisan DemoncRat has spoken up against the raid on President Trump. I guess even a stopped watch is right twice a day

I’m not surprised that a Democrat spoke up but not Cuomo. There are lots of them that should be pushed for their opinion on this. Obama, the Clintons, the Bush’s… Has the Cocaine Turtle said anything yet? Anyone at all from the Uniparty?

CommoChief in reply to Pasadena Phil. | August 9, 2022 at 11:07 am

McCarthy did. His statement was ok, IMO. He recognizes the limits of his current power to do jack squat until the next Congress is seated. He basically said this is bad and the AG needs to get ready for a hostile Congress. We shall see.

Personally, I would advise zero cooperation at this point. No unanimous consent requests, contest every action, pull out every parliamentary procedure to halt the ability of Congress to function. He probably won’t do that.

Voyager in reply to CommoChief. | August 9, 2022 at 11:42 am

Honestly, the more I think about McCarthy’s statement, the stupider it seems.

If he has no power to do anything until (or unless) a Republican Congress is elected, didn’t he just tell the DoJ to scrub everything as hard as they can before November?

Now I know, the DoJ may well simply not care and keep it all around anyway, and we could just as easily not win the house, so it may not even matter, but it just seems dumb to tell someone that at some point in the future you’ll require them to turn over anything they haven’t destroyed yet.

Sniping at the Republicans who actually came out and made a statement denouncing this raid is good enough. I don’t get the point of reading things into their statements that aren’t there.

Voyager in reply to Pasadena Phil. | August 9, 2022 at 12:22 pm

I’m not sure what you think I’m reading into the statement?

He said once the Republicans are in power, they’ll investigate, and the DoJ should retain everything. But as near as I can tell, he completely lacks the authority or ability to enforce that until after November.

I’m not sure how that actually helps anything, or why we should expect anything to have actually been preserved come November, short of arrogance on the FBI’s part.

@voyager: wording is awkward but what I meant is that it’s enough that Republicans stepped forward and denounced the raid. This isn’t the time to parse the words to extract deep meaning revealing anything. It speaks volumes that Cocaine Turtle refused to offer his opinion. That’s what is important. But there are others who should have offered their support who still haven’t. Also, the DOJ has yet to explain themselves too.

CommoChief in reply to Voyager. | August 9, 2022 at 12:20 pm

Your implied assumption is that the DoJ wouldn’t seek to cover their tracks absent McCarthy’s statement.

The bottom line here is, as tough a pill to swallow as it is, the minority party in Congress doesn’t have much leverage to force anything. That power rests with the Committee Chairs which Pelosi and Schumer control. We can all stomp our feet and scream till the cows come home but it won’t impact that reality.

The most we can expect is non cooperation from the minority party. They have lots of parliamentary options to slow and halt Congress from doing anything. That’s the course of action I advise.

From a budget bill to naming a post office to confirming promotions for Military Officers to any unanimous consent request to the passage of a resolution honoring some kid’s battle with cancer; block everything. Eat up the legislative calender. Seek recognition in the Senate and refuse to yield the floor via a coordinated speaking filibuster until the next Congress convenes.

Voyager in reply to CommoChief. | August 9, 2022 at 12:30 pm

Yes, that’s what’s bothering me. I’m seeing him making this “Come November you’ll be sorry” but I’m not actually seeing them so anything that they can do now.

No “Until you’ve provided an actual explanation, nothing moves without every single procedure boeing followed in the most grueling manner possible.”

Just vague promises about something that may or may not even happen six months from now.

The DOJ couldn’t care less what McCarthy or any House Speaker does next year. The power to prosecute is exclusively with the Executive Branch. The House can do nothing except request things and make meaningless findings of contempt – which only have meaning if Garland is willing to prosecute himself.

          Gosport in reply to The_Mew_Cat. | August 9, 2022 at 3:46 pm

An upcoming Republican-controlled House can slash federal budget lines when the next cycle comes along.

Let me initially suggest for the FBI and DOJ (to start) a reduction of, say, 1/3rd in both funding and staffing.

But then, of course, the GOPe “leadership” will have to stand strong against the onslaught of evil & heartless “shutting down the government” charges.

Yeah, I know, good luck with that, GOPe-wise. Me personally? ->Bring it ON!

If they believe that voters won’t expect them do anything in response then they won’t. Politicians worry about being elected above all else. They generally choose the course that least interrupts their grift while presenting the best chance to be elected.

In case any have the mistaken notion that Andrew Cuomo’s comments have a altruistic motive, please consider that this inexcusable display of abuse of power and overreach will likely seal the November Midterm Outcome in favor of the Republican Party and render President Trump unbeatable in 2024 if he chooses to run for election again.

The motive is that the Communist Democrates will regret this action, will regret it sooner than they may think, and then THEY will become the objects of persecution and hopefully, prosecution.

Cuomo still has yet to answer for his decisions to move Covid infected persons into nursing homes to infect and murder thousands of New Yorkers as do other Governors, i.e.,Michigan, New Jersey, Washington..

If Cuomo is worried about anything, it is that Zeldin’s ticket wins this November.

See also the last sentence in his statement. He’s worried that Fibbie shenanigans could also create backblast against the (non-existent, outside of a few empty heads) legitimacy of the J6 hearings, sabotaging that particular attack against Trump.

I always take the standard deduction for its simplification value. Loopholes are there to ensnare you.

healthguyfsu in reply to rhhardin. | August 9, 2022 at 11:43 am

Since Trump and the GOP raised the sd, it made taxes so much easier for the vast majority of middle class Americans. Of course, it made the prog urbanites hopping mad because their SALT deduction gravy train was axed.

The Gentle Grizzly in reply to healthguyfsu. | August 9, 2022 at 12:07 pm

Let me assure you that it as not just “prog urbanites” that got angry; it angered anyone in a state with high property and other taxes.

Yes indeed, because the costs of their foolishly high local and state taxes were no longer subsidised via the federal tax code above that limit. The median bracket is 89K -170 K (24%). Then 170K-215K (32%) then 215K- 539K (35%) and above that at 37%.

When the fed tax code allows anywhere from 24% to 37% of the financial costs of SALT to be removed it is much easier for SALT to rise and remain high. Absent the subsidy it becomes much more difficult because much more of the consequences are borne by the folks who allowed these high SALT to come into existence.

Pain is sometimes the best teacher.

It is a likely cause of at least part of the exodus from high tax states.

healthguyfsu in reply to The Gentle Grizzly. | August 10, 2022 at 12:24 am

It was just capped, not eliminated, and the standard deduction is pretty damn high now. If it cost you tax money, then you probably own quite a bit of property in a place that you should look to sell away from.

Besides, it meant working middle classers not benefiting from the high wages of those bubble areas are no longer subsidiziing those high end wages by getting lesser deductions than their counterparts.

He is just trying to pretend to be in the centrist role that Biden lied about. There will be a void for Dem voters looking for that in the upcoming cycles.

He still thinks he is electable.

The DOJ doesn’t have to answer to anyone. Remember Holder after Fast and Furious and the FISA Warrants. The voters are working on a solution.

I’m totally confused.
He is covering his own a**. He fully expects raids on his home and office, and he wants to get out in front of it with a “bi-partisan” defense.

Note this: Andrew Cuomo did not say that if the raid was merely for inconsequential archives it was immoral or unethical. His concern is only about appearances, not right vs. wrong.

Which is much more than the Cocaine Turtle who just now blew off the question preferring to talk only about the Kentucky floods. So when you down the list of those who chose to opine about the raid, the Senate Minority Leader should have been very near the top of the list. He had to be asked and then declined to comment.

He’s not saying they should have done it.

He’s saying that this looks insane and is practically BEGGING them to publicly defend it with their manufactured evidence now.

I think there’s another possibility here. Trump tried to declassify documents right before the end of his term. My guess is that there is a smoking gun among those documents, that is VERY problematic for the dems, and that they suspect/know that Trump has a copy of that document. Trump ordered a bunch of documents declassified, the bureaucracy dragged its feet. The swamp can claim the document was never declassified, such that Trump’s copy is a problem. Because the document is classified, they never need to disclose the search warrant (the description would be classified and under seal.) The dems win, they get the document back, create the impression that Trump committed a crime, and never need to admit why they are willing to go so far out of norms. How does Trump get to fight back? Unless he wins the presidency, he doesn’t have declassification authority, and even if he gets to produce the document, would he do that, which would absolutely destroy the country he loves?

CommoChief in reply to A Thinker. | August 9, 2022 at 8:20 pm

As the unitary executive the President, during their term of office, has the power to declassify. Could he do that verbally in an empty room aka no witnesses? Sure.

The real question is would anyone believe that? As a follow on why not simply create a memoranda for record listing the docs declassified, sign it and date it? That is too easy to do and would provide a better basis to support his assertion re declassification. The absence of such a memoranda would be viewed in a negative manner.

Better yet make several certified true copies of the memoranda with witness signatures from the ODNI or other high ranking person in the WH with the appropriate clearance and stash them off site so they are available just in case a scenario like this occurs.

Hell make copies of the damn docs in question, which would now no longer be classified. Release them and the memoranda if the bureaucracy plays shenanigans. Put it all online.

Is it too much to hope that you can abort the baby, cannibalize her profitable parts, sequester her carbon pollutants, and have her, too? Cuomo fears that the establishment is playing with a double-edged scalpel.

Cuomo just realizes that, as the designated sacrificial lamb, should the Dems need to detract public attention from some future scandal, he would be first in line for an unannounced visit from the FBI.

“and undermine any future credible investigation & legitimacy of January 6 investigations”

Yeah, that ship sailed some time ago…

and undermine any future credible investigation & legitimacy of January 6 investigations

The January 6 investigations were never legitimate.

“Patel explained, “I can tell you now that I am now officially a representative for Donald Trump at the National Archives. And I’m going to march down there. I’ve never told anyone this because it just happened. And I’m going to identify every single document that they blocked from being declassified at the National Archives, and we’re going to start putting that information out next week.””
http://www.redvoicemedia.com/2022/06/declass-incoming-kash-patel-announces-new-position-representing-trump-at-the-national-archives-videos/

“The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.”

I would dearly love to see the probable cause documentation which this warrant was based on and of course the warrant itself.

Somehow I suspect that the warrant was as general as “Go search Trump’s house for anything we can use”.
