Former Obama Campaign Manager Slams AOC for Endorsing Primary Challenge to DCCC Chair

Redistricting in New York has redrawn the state’s 17th congressional district and the battle over who should run there is causing all kinds of infighting on the left.

Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney, the chair of the DCCC (Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee), wants to run in the district, but progressives don’t want him to run there, so now Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is backing a primary challenge to Maloney.

Obama’s former campaign manager Jim Messina is now calling out AOC for creating problems for the party.

Lindsay Kornick reports at FOX News:

Former Obama campaign manager calls AOC backing challenger to DCCC chair ‘dumb sh—’Former Barack Obama campaign manager Jim Messina attacked Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC), D-N.Y., Tuesday for her recent endorsement of a candidate against the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) chair.AOC made headlines this week for endorsing New York state Sen. Alessandra Biaggi who is primarying current DCCC head Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney for New York district 17 in the U.S. House. Although Maloney is considered a well-connected Democrat, some, including Ocasio-Cortez, consider Biaggi a progressive alternative.Messina criticized AOC’s decision shortly afterwards, claiming that this kind of infighting could lead to Democrats losing control of Congress.”This is so counter-productive. The Supreme Court is about to outlaw abortion. We could lose both houses. So we are going to focus our time running against each other? Now we’re primarying commited [sic] progressives because. . .why? If we lose house it’s because of dumb sh*t like this,” Messina tweeted.

He sounds pretty annoyed, doesn’t he?

AOC and the primary challenger she’s backing are taking a pretty harsh stance on Maloney, especially considering his role in the party.

The Hill reports:

A recent internal poll conducted by Global Strategy Group on behalf of the Maloney campaign, which was shared with The Hill, reported a 30-point lead for Maloney in the race among likely Democratic primary voters in the district. The poll also indicated Maloney maintained a 23-point lead after respondents heard balanced, positive messages about both candidates. Seventy-six percent of voters were not familiar with Biaggi or could not rate her, compared to 41 percent when asked about Maloney.“We want a champion in Congress that will fight for all of us — not a corporate Democrat like Sean Patrick Maloney who puts his donors’ interests ahead of ours,” Biaggi said in a statement. “Representative Ocasio-Cortez and I know our party will be strongest when Democrats stop letting corporate donors set the political agenda and start fighting for working people — and that’s why I am thrilled she is backing our campaign.”

It’s the return of the Democrat circular firing squad.
