New York Investigation of Trump’s Business Falling Apart as Two Prosecutors Resign From Manhattan DA Office

“The New York Times, citing sources, reported that the grand jury investigation had stalled, with no sessions in the last month, and that Dunne and Pomerantz quit after Bragg raised doubts about pursuing a case against Trump himself.”

The left’s never-ending investigations and harassment of Trump took a major blow this week. Two of the prosecutors involved in the Manhattan DA’s probe of Trump’s business resigned due to doubts.

The ‘resist’ crowd is going to lose its hive mind over this.

From the Associated Press, via Politico:

Prosecutors in charge of Trump criminal probe have resigned

The two prosecutors in charge of the Manhattan district attorney’s criminal investigation into former President Donald Trump and his business dealings suddenly resigned Wednesday, throwing the future of the probe into question just as pressure was building on Trump on several legal fronts.

A spokesperson for District Attorney Alvin Bragg confirmed the resignations of Carey Dunne and Mark Pomerantz, top deputies who had been tasked with running the investigation on a day-to-day basis. Both started on the Trump probe under former District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr., and Bragg asked them to stay when he took office in January.

Dunne, the office’s former general counsel, argued before the U.S. Supreme Court in a successful, multiyear fight for Trump’s tax records. Pomerantz, a former mafia prosecutor, was brought out of private practice by Vance last year to add his expertise in white collar investigations and had been involved in questioning witnesses before the grand jury.

“We are grateful for their service,” Bragg spokesperson Danielle Filson said. She declined to comment further, saying the investigation is ongoing.

The New York Times, citing sources, reported that the grand jury investigation had stalled, with no sessions in the last month, and that Dunne and Pomerantz quit after Bragg raised doubts about pursuing a case against Trump himself. No former president has ever been charged with a crime.

Kevin Breuninger of CNBC has more:

The resignations raised questions about the state of the DA’s probe, with some experts suggesting the proceedings have been put on ice. The Times, citing people familiar with the matter, reported that Alvin Bragg, the new Manhattan district attorney, has indicated he has doubts about continuing to build a case against Trump.

New York Attorney General Letitia James’ office is conducting a related criminal investigation into the Trump Organization, as well as a civil probe. Both offices are reportedly eyeing claims by Trump’s former personal lawyer Michael Cohen that the Trump Organization fraudulently misstated its real estate valuations to get better tax and loan deals.

A person from the attorney general’s office told CNBC that investigation “is still ongoing and there is a robust team in place working on it.”

Lots of people are going to be very disappointed by this news.

This was never about anything more than politics. Democrats are terrified of another Trump run and they’re trying to bury him in investigations and bad press, much like they did while he was president.

Prosecutorial misconduct out of New Dork, say it ain’t so. sarc.

NY Times article that goes into the Trump prosecuters quitting basically spills the beans on why DA Bragg is shuttering the Trump witch hunt – the grand jury session was due to end in April and in order to extend it, they’d needed to tell the judge, um, something, anything. And they had nothing. They were going try and sort of interview another ‘witness’ or something. But everyone knew it was just waste of time. So, Bragg killed it instead of having the grand jury be dissolved by the judge based on the fact that after all these years they had nothing. Now it will die a quiet death in April.

One can hope and pray

The burden of stopping Trump has now fallen on McConnell’s Gang of 19 and Romney is already moving on it with his blaming Trump for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

But they will never give up…

And here I thought the Borg were relentless, they have nothing on the left.

Seems Trump has a bit of 8472 in him though.

My concern is the RINO’s attacking from the back and inside. The left seems to be doing an excellent job of beating themselves right now but always remember, the left could never have succeeded in anything without RINO complicity and help.

Our main focus and efforts MUST be directed toward the RINO element.

I’m not sure this is politically driven so much as personal spite and hate using the powers of government to persecute someone.

No former president has ever been charged with a crime.
What an irrelevant comment. The investigation has (legally speaking) nothing to do with his tenure as President. It’s a fishing expedition.

he has doubts about continuing to build a non-case against Trump.
FIFY.

fraudulently misstated its real estate valuations
Well, heck, the city gov’t here does that to me all the time.

Democrats are terrified of another Trump run
Not just that, but they want payback for all the mean things he said about them for 4 years. These are middle schoolers with law degrees.

Perhaps, using Trump as precedent, every new US President should be greeted on 20-Jan with his own special prosecutor.

Trump would have been taken down in the 2015-2016 time frame if there was dirt on him out there to be had. It’s not as though millions of haters haven’t been looking.

I didn’t vote for either candidate when Trump first ran – I knew Hillary was a crook for years – and I figured “hmmmm rich real estate developer in a Democrat (and union) run cesspool like Ny and NJ – gotta be a crook too.

If T. did anything chargeable all the previous fishing expeditions should have found it years ago. Unless he was smart enuf to only or mostly pursue legal bribes (ie campaign contributions). And anything else can’t be found without high-level Dems being willing to (1) give the money back and (2) incriminate themselves.

So the left will not have its pound of flesh today, they will have to settle for the jungles worth of meat they got from angering Republicans of all kinds with this NY witch hunt, and be satisfied that they have most likely saddled us with a candidate capable of losing to Biden again in 2024.

Putting Trump in prison was never the goal for them they were aware from the Mueller “investigation” Trump never committed any crimes.

The very fact that after all these years of over reach by every Democrat controlled office HASNT found anything on Trump has had the unintended consequence of telling us he’s probably the cleanest fucker to have not only ever run for the WH but to also sit in it!

Damn unintended consequences 🤣🤣

Given what we actually know about Trump your statement makes little to no sense. Their is a high burden of proof with respect to a criminal case, and the fact the prosecutors quitting suggests that actually there is significant disagreement around whether that has been met or not. It could go either way. I’d also point out this is one of many legal cases against trump and they ain’t going well. It’ll be interesting to see Trump et all deposed for the civil lawsuit.

Maybe they Got A Clue (Reg. US Pat Off) by the fact Trump and anything of, or pertaining to, Trump, has been under the magnifying glass of countless alphabet agencies for decades, yet, nothing seems to stick.

Much like the endless claims that once Trump’s tax returns were exposed, the whole criminal conspiracy would be exposed, the walls would close in, this would be the end of…

Nobody sane believed that, and particularly nobody who has ever faced the IRS. Trust me, if Trump owed one more dime to the IRS than he paid, they would be there with their hand out.

They bet the farm on Cohen, who promised he’d provide everything they’d need. Rats will promise anything if it suits their interests.

Delicious. Now do the NRA lawsuit.

Nothing more emblematic of this being a political prosecution: ordinarily such things are only investigated when the loans are in default, and so far as I know these loans are not in default.

Banks don’t really care so long as payments are being made, and they do not like criminal investigations against solvent, paying debtors because they threaten the ability of the debtor to make payments. For the same reason, minor violations of loan terms are usually overlooked. Title transfers are usually prohibited, for example, but is the bank really better off foreclosing on performing debt?
