Jennifer Ho teaches Asian-American studies at the University of Colorado, Boulder. She recently wrote an op-ed blaming all race related violence in the United States on white supremacy.
Progressives seem to think that if they just keep repeating this narrative, people will believe it’s true.
The amazing thing about this column is that Ho offers examples of attacks on Asians by black people, and then blames these incidents on… white supremacy.
She writes at the Conversation, via Yahoo News:
White supremacy is the root of all race-related violence in the USAmid the disturbing rise in attacks on Asian Americans since March 2020 is a troubling category of these assaults: Black people are also attacking Asian Americans.White people are the main perpetrators of anti-Asian racism. But in February 2021, a Black person pushed an elderly Asian man to the ground in San Francisco; the man later died from his injuries. In another video, from New York City on March 29, 2021, a Black person pushes and beats an Asian American woman on the sidewalk in front of a doorway while onlookers observe the attack, then close their door on the woman without intervening or providing aid…The point I’ve made through all of those experiences is that anti-Asian racism has the same source as anti-Black racism: white supremacy. So when a Black person attacks an Asian person, the encounter is fueled perhaps by racism, but very specifically by white supremacy. White supremacy does not require a white person to perpetuate it.

And so whiteness as an ideology is rooted in America’s history of white supremacy – right? – which has to do with the legacy of slavery or Indigenous dispossession or Jim Crow. And I think it’s important to realize just how long in this country legal discrimination was not simply culturally acceptable but legally authorized. And so we’ve only been practicing a more consistent form of legal equality for a relatively short time since the 1960s. So Americans have often learned how to create their own sense of belonging through violence and through the exclusion of certain groups and populations.GARCIA-NAVARRO: So what you’re saying, essentially, is that people of other races and ethnicities want to benefit from white privilege by supporting it.BELTRAN: Right.
