FBI Sees No Racism Motive In Atlanta Spa Shootings, Despite Media/Democrat Claims Otherwise

Earlier this week, Mary reported on the Atlanta spa shootings. Atlanta police reported at that time that the shootings were not race-related, but the media unleashed an avalanche of articles claiming, without facts or evidence, that the shootings were indeed race-related (and also misogynist. And stuff.)

The FBI has now officially backed the initial Atlanta PD assessment and stated that the Atlanta spa shootings do “not appear to be racially motivated.”

Forbes reports:

FBI Director Christopher Wray told NPR Tuesday’s Atlanta-area shootings that killed eight people — six of whom were Asian-American — do not seem to be linked to race, backing up local police who say the alleged shooter was probably motivated by a sex addiction rather than racial animus, a theory that’s drawn skepticism and pushback from some corners.

Of course this FBI finding has “drawn skepticism and pushback from some corners.”  It has done so in leftist media corners in which today’s anti-white elements dwell.  In their myopic, narrow little world, there is only one reason anything ever happens: race hate. We can toss in all the other sects in the leftist intersectional buffet of resentment and victimhood, but at rock bottom, race is the “new” class in their cultural Marxist revolution.  It’s the reason for everything since the dawn of time and will always be the driving force for everything . . . if they have anything to say about it.

The left used to be enamored of ‘sex addiction,’ it was a wonderful way for perverts and criminals to have their acts excused, apologized for, vindicated, even validated.  They were victims, you see, of something beyond their control (unlike white people who have complete control over how white they are and need training to learn how to be “less white”).

No more, that explanation offered up by the Atlanta spa shooter himself was pooh-poohed away as white supremacist fantasy masking white privilege wrapped in anti-Asian hate spurred by fear of the Wuhan coronavirus.  If that sounds nutty to you, don’t worry, you’re not wrong. It is supremely nutty.

The radical left has gone all-in on its illogical, inhumane, and cruel ‘anti-racism’ theory; intentionally racist—with the ‘noble’ goal of singling out white people for punishment over perceived ‘white’ historical and contemporary wrongs—Critical Race Theory requires the subjugation and oppression of white people to achieve ‘justice.’  Racist hate drives this bizarre leftist war on racist hate.

Andrew Sullivan has a great piece at his substack about this narrative not just trumping but actually replacing the news: “When The Narrative Replaces The News: How the media grotesquely distorted the Atlanta massacres.”

We have yet to find any credible evidence of anti-Asian hatred or bigotry in this man’s history. Maybe we will. We can’t rule it out. But we do know that his roommates say they once asked him if he picked the spas for sex because the women were Asian. And they say he denied it, saying he thought those spas were just the safest way to have quick sex. That needs to be checked out more. But the only piece of evidence about possible anti-Asian bias points away, not toward it.And yet. Well, you know what’s coming. Accompanying one original piece on the known facts, the NYT ran nine — nine! — separate stories about the incident as part of the narrative that this was an anti-Asian hate crime, fueled by white supremacy and/or misogyny. Not to be outdone, the WaPo ran sixteen separate stories on the incident as an antiAsian white supremacist hate crimeSixteen! One story for the facts; sixteen stories on how critical race theory would interpret the event regardless of the facts. For good measure, one of their columnists denounced reporting of law enforcement’s version of events in the newspaper, because it distracted attention from the “real” motives. Today, the NYT ran yet another full-on critical theory piece disguised as news on how these murders are proof of structural racism and sexism — because some activists say they are.. . . . None of them mentioned that he killed two white people as well — a weird thing for a white supremacist to do — and injured a Latino. None pointed out that the connection between the spas was that the killer had visited them. None explained why, if he were associating Asian people with Covid19, he would nonetheless expose himself to the virus by having sex with them, or regard these spas as “safer” than other ways to have quick sex. They didn’t because, in their worldview, they didn’t need to. What you see here is social justice ideology insisting, as Dean Baquet temporarily explained, that intent doesn’t matter. What matters is impact. The individual killer is in some ways irrelevant. His intentions are not material. He is merely a vehicle for the structural oppressive forces critical theorists believe in. And this “story” is what the media elites decided to concentrate on: the thing that, so far as we know, didn’t happen.. . . . The media is supposed to subject easy, convenient rush-to-judgment narratives to ruthless empirical testing. Now, for purely ideological reasons, they are rushing to promote ready-made narratives, which actually point away from the empirical facts. To run sixteen separate pieces on anti-Asian white supremacist misogynist hate based on one possibly completely unrelated incident is not journalism. It’s fanning irrational fear in the cause of ideological indoctrination. And it appears to be where all elite media is headed.
