Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said the administration would not turn away unaccompanied minors at the border sent by their “loving parents.”
From The New York Post:
“The Trump administration expelled children to Mexico. And we are not expelling young children,” Mayorkas said at a White House press briefing.“We are not apprehending a 9-year-old child who’s come alone, who has traversed Mexico, whose parents — whose loving parents — had sent that child alone, we are not expelling that 9-year-old child to Mexico when that child’s origin, country of origin, was Guatemala, Honduras or El Salvador.”Mayorkas said, “We are actually bringing that child into a Border Patrol station as a stepping point to get that child in the hands of HHS, that has the capacity and in the unique talents to care for the child — health care workers, mental health counseling and the like — and moving that child to a sponsor as quickly as possible.”
Do you remember where President Joe Biden’s team put those children? Officials put them in cages.
Oh, wait. The children went into cages when it was President Donald Trump.
Biden has shelters. Mike blogged on Saturday that America has seen a surge in numbers of unaccompanied children at the border.
The children will have those shelters if they even make it to a checkpoint on the border. I doubt human traffickers will go through the right channels.
Mayorkas also echoed a previous plea from a Biden official: Do not come to the border right now.
Mayorkas blamed the Trump administration:
Appearing in the White House briefing room, Mayorkas also took aim at the prior administration — and said the Department of Homeland Security is working to “replace the cruelty” of the Trump administration with “an orderly humane and safe immigration process.””It is hard and it will take time, but rest assured, we are going to get it done,” Mayorkas said, while adding that it is “important to understand what we have inherited, because it defines the situation of how it currently stands.””The prior administration dismantled our immigration system in its entirety,” Mayorkas said. “Quite frankly, the entire system was gutted.”Mayorkas claimed that under the previous administration, “no planning had been done to protect frontline personnel of U.S. Customs and Border Protection” among others, including “individuals coming to our border.””It takes time to build out of the depths of cruelty that the administration before us established,” he said. “What we are seeing now at the order is the immediate result of the dismantlement of the system and the time that it takes to rebuild it virtually from scratch.”
Biden has an immigration plan, but it would help the 11 million illegal immigrants already in America.
Mayorkas and others asking nicely and deflecting blame to Trump will not stop migrants. The Honduran caravan said last month that it would continue its quest to the border. They also demanded Biden uphold his commitments to migrants.
