China Authorizes Coastguard to Fire on Foreign Ships in Disputed Waters

A new law allows China’s “coastguards to launch pre-emptive strikes without prior warning.”

Just days after Joe Biden’s inauguration as the U.S. president, Communist China has escalated tension in the Asia Pacific, authorizing its coastguards to fire on foreign ships and to destroy structures in disputed waters.

A new law passed by the Communist Party’s top legislative body, the National People’s Congress Standing Committee, allows “the coastguards to launch pre-emptive strikes without prior warning if commanders deem it necessary,” the Hong Kong newspaper South China Morning Post reported Saturday.

The Chinese legislation does not specify the location of the maritime territories under dispute, but Beijing has built and fortified several artificial islands in the South China Sea, as well as laid claim to island chains belonging to its neighboring countries. The outgoing U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has called those territorial claims ‘unlawful.’

It is unclear if China informed the members of the Biden administration ahead of launching these hostile naval measures against the U.S. allies in the region. Since November, Beijing is reportedly in ‘backchannel’ talks with individuals close to President Biden. According to Chinese media reports, “several people closely associated with Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden [in November] contacted China and talked to Chinese think tanks about how to reset the relationship.”

The South China Morning Post, on Saturday, reported the new Chinese coastguard law:

China has risked stoking tensions with its neighbours after it passed a law that for the first time explicitly allows its coastguards to fire on foreign vessels and demolish structures built in disputed waters.

The coastguard law, passed on Friday by China’s top legislative body, the National People’s Congress Standing Committee, came two years after China’s military assumed control of the previously civilian maritime body in 2018.

The law empowers the coastguard to use “all necessary means” to deter threats posed by foreign vessels in waters “under China’s jurisdiction”. It will also allow the coastguards to launch pre-emptive strikes without prior warning if commanders deem it necessary. (…)

Under the new bill, coastguard personnel can demolish structures built or installed by other countries in Chinese-claimed waters and board and inspect foreign ships in the area.

The Trump administration strengthened ties with regional powers to contain China’s militarist expansion. Secretary Pompeo played a key role in creating an Asia-Pacific alliance to counter Beijing’s growing military threat.

Under President Trump’s leadership, the U.S.-led Quadrilateral Security Dialogue initiative, or the quad, which comprises of Australia, Japan, and India, has emerged a strong counterweight to Beijing. This U.S.-backed coalition created a framework for security cooperation, including joint defense exercises and access to each others’ military and naval bases.

Communist China has criticized the creation of this regional security bloc, accusing the Trump administration of building an ‘Indo-Pacific Nato,’ similar to the military alliance which countered the Soviet threat during the Cold War.

With Democrats in the White House, China hopes to undo this legacy of strength forged under the leadership of President Trump. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi recently called for a ‘reset’ in U.S. ties with the incoming administration.

During President Barack Obama’s watch, China launched a massive project to create artificial islands in the South China Sea, encroaching neighboring territories and threatening international waterways. Beijing has since built military bases, naval installations, and aircraft landing strips on these islands.

With its growing economic clout, China purses a policy of territorial and maritime expansion. Beijing has staked territorial claims on 18 of its neighbors.

‘Disputed’ meaning ‘Claimed by China regardless of international law’

Time to sail an entire carrier task force right up the strait and doodle around in these ‘disputed’ waters for a few weeks. Active sonar drills to chase Chinese subs out, radar locks on curious jets, the whole ‘We don’t recognize your delusion’ treatment.

Don’t expect the USN to lift a finger in response.

Why would they. The commander in chief is off duty right now.

“A mere four days into his presidency, Kelly O’Donnell, the White House correspondent for NBC News, reported that the White House had called a lid, and Biden would not be seen in public for the rest of the day.”

Recall what happened with the geriatric leaders of the Soviet Union? Sometime next year (or maybe this year) Biden* will completely stop making public appearances. If we see anything it will be photos or short recorded clips made at unspecified dates of Biden* engaged in some meaningless activity.

And the Joseph Goebbels media will pretend that nothing unusual is going on.

C’mon man! The Chinese are brown people who have suffered white supremacy for thousands of years. It’s their turn man. And I, mean, c’mon, they just give you money for nothing. Just give it you! Fly in, walk down the stairway, and there’s a guy with an envelope on the red carpet, right there – first guy you meet. I mean, they don’t do that in Oklahoma, for Pete’s sake! I mean envelopes and suitcases of money – for nothing – even to your kids, man! They’re no threat to anyone. C’mon, man! Get with, you know, the thing!

Also time to let them know that a responses will be swift and devastating, say wiping one of the illegal bases out.

If we get control of the house we should impeach Biden for accepting bribes from China and encouraging China to attack us with a WMD, coronavirus. It’s easy to prove the charge of taking bribes. It’s easy to prove that China chose to attack us with coronavirus and logical that China did it in order to help Biden win the election.

So since November, the Biden folks have been having back-channel talks with China eh? huh. The #1 threat to the USA and her Pacific allies, and back-channel talks are A-ok … as long as Democrats do it. Got it. I’m so old, I can remember the FBI getting FISA warrants and a special council over this kind of stuff..

For decades, Communist countries would create some issue to “test’ the new president. Options are a ploy with Biden to give the world a good feel for Biden as he “negotiates” a reduction of rhetoric, a reminder to Biden that they own him, his family and by extension numerous cronies of both parties, demand to weaken agreements with arena states or having assessed the state of US preparedness after Obama’s and Deep state purge of line of command, that this is the best time to push. That’s four of a kind in this poker game. For now … are they Jacks, Queens or Kings? I’d say Queens… for a short while.

Come on, man! You know those standards apply only to Republicans.

hope the usnavy ROEs are updated to address this threat–if so, would expect the literal vaporization of a few chinese “coast guard vessels” and their commanders would be in order should the chinese be foolish enough to attack a us warship/merchant ship in international waters

Wouldn’t be trying this if Trump had got his second term, you can bet if they tried while Trump was in office he would have let them know the moment they fire a shot at one of ours or our allies there would be hell to pay. But with their patsy Joe in there they must feel safe in becoming even more aggressive. Just one of many bad consequences to come thanks to this election.

Restrict island sea rights to the square root of the land area, to fix the artificial island problem. Grandfather island sea rights that existed before 2000.

Looks like China is taking this opportunity to get what they can.

Just saw this on Twitter about China violating Taiwanese airspace:

“BREAKING: Hunter Biden advised his father to not have a strong respond to China’s breaches of Taiwan air defense zone, per WH official. “Don’t take the bait, Dad”” – From Jack Posobiec

I hope Taiwan has a secret nuclear weapons program because that will be the only thing that saves them from China if China decides to invade. The US under Joe isn’t going to do anything.

That Chinese ship may as well have an American flag on it – upside down.

Xi owns Biden. Everyone owns Harris. Xi owns our schools. Xi owns our news media. Xi owns Hollywood and its idiots. Xi owns sports (and useful assholes like le bron james).

Xi isn’t facing America anymore. Rather, he’s in business with the ruling Junta in which Biden and Hair-ass are its puppets.

Our only hope for freedom and safety is secession.

Elect most corrupted guy you can find and this is what you get.
No work multi million dollar contracts have a unmarked price in return.

What a difference a weak American President makes eh.

    Biden isn’t weak, just blackmailable.

No, he’s very damn weak. Biden doesn’t have a guiding principle in his body, other than two: steal as much public money as you can, and market your office via treason.

Brave Sir Robbin in reply to rhhardin. | January 24, 2021 at 4:35 pm

Weak! C’mon man! I can do more pushups than you, you fat pony faced dog soldier. You want a round with me! You’re no Corn Pop. Now that’s a dude, and he wanted nothing of what I got. Weak! You know how heavy those suitcases full of cash are the Chinese give me? Give me a break. I’ve toted lots out of China – lots! And not one at a time either. You could never do that. Not even Hunter can lift the amount of cash I can. C’mon man! You wanna step outside – I’ll go outside.

MattMusson in reply to rhhardin. | January 25, 2021 at 7:46 am

Not blackmailable. He is easily bought. For a few millions of dollars, Biden will alter Billions of dollars in Aid. And, give away millions of jobs.

I’ll be glad when 1969 gets here again.

“talked to Chinese think tanks about how to reset the relationship”

Can we impeach Biden now for collusion?

While a hack like Lloyd Austin (the fauci of the Pentagon) is busy ferreting out right wing scum, China will do whatever it wants.

After all, China owns Biden. And Biden owns Austin-Fauci.

Look for the proclamation of a CCP-coordinated Red-Line diplomacy in a (series of?) major White House (East Room) press conference(s) at the appropriate ratcheting up time(s) of tensions in the Taiwan Strait.

Just as we bowed to Russia during Syria’s civil war to keep them playing footsie with us and sign on with certain the major powers vis-a-vis Iran back in 2015, so O’Biden welcomes this redux-event vis-a-vis the CCP in order to facilitate its claimed ascent in its — not America’s — century, the 21st.

Taiwan’s future is very bleak now.
The Phillipines should be worried, too.

Look for Japan and Austraila to soon become nuclear powers. If they don’t, they’re doomed.

Brave Sir Robbin in reply to TheFineReport.com. | January 24, 2021 at 8:25 pm

Taiwan becoming a nuclear power, that’s their ace in the hole.

It is possible to see a nuclear arc rising around China to include India (already has them), Taiwan, South Korea, and Japan.

Don’t see Australia for there unless the completely lose faith in the US. Vietnam would go their if they had the resources and technology.

If China is not careful, they could be surrounded by hostile nuclear armed neighbors.

The Chinese communist regime is emboldened by its successful, intentional biological attack on the west via the Wuhan virus, for which it is abundantly clear that no penalties will be imposed, for this act of war. No leadership possesses the gumption to appropriate hold China responsible for this weaponized plague.

And, China is emboldened by its successful installation of tottering, feeble, emasculated, corrupt, dim-witted, self-enriching, avaricious, mendacious, Chinese communist-installed/controlled, Chairman “Big Guy” Xi-den.
