Chris Wallace Finally Gets to Interview Joe Biden — at the First Debate

Can’t brush this aside, Biden.

The Commission on Presidential Debates announced Chris Wallace from Fox News would moderate the first debate between President Donald Trump and Joe Biden. It will take place on September 29.

Wallace will finally get to interview Biden. He mentioned in July how he has been trying to get the candidate on his show, but the campaign says Biden is not available.

This could spell disaster for Biden. The first debate is the most-watched, and we all know Wallace will not hold back.

Wallace performed a tough interview with Trump in July. It was so tough that Trump asked Wallace if Biden could handle a similar interview:

The president told the Fox News host that Biden would be “crying for mommy” if forced to answer the same kinds of questions from Wallace.

“Let Biden sit through an interview like this, he’ll be on the ground crying for mommy. He’ll say ‘Mommy, mommy, please take me home,’” the president said.

“Well, we’ve asked him for an interview, sir,” Wallace replied.

“He can’t do an interview. He’s incompetent,” Trump said in response.

That’s when Wallace said his show contacted Biden’s campaign about an interview. The campaign said he was not available.

Wallace vowed to ask every week about Biden’s availability.

Biden’s campaign responded to Trump’s criticism but used it as a way to bash the president. The campaign did not “address the issue of Biden making his own appearance on the program.”

The following day, Wallace told his colleague Bret Baier that Biden should make himself available:

“The fact is, the president is out there. He’s out there in this broiling heat with me for an hour, took all the questions,” he said in an appearance on Baier’s program last Monday, “You can like his answers or dislike them, but he had answers, and Joe Biden hasn’t faced that kind of scrutiny, hasn’t faced that kind of exposure.”

“You’ve got to feel at some point he’s going to come out from the basement. He’s going to have to be more exposed and take questions just as tough as the ones I asked this president.”

If Wallace plays it fair, which I believe he will, he will grill Biden.

Wallace shouldn’t be playing any role what so ever. We shouldn’t even know he’s there.

I’ll be happy if Biden isn’t tipped to the questions beforehand. Every reporter has tried to bait Trump with gotcha questions. If Wallace is just tough with questions and follow-up questions, that will do.

The good news is even if Slow Joe gets the questions in advance the probability is that they won’t let him have a TelePrompter so he can screw up reading the answers. And it isn’t likely he will be able to remember the answers, no matter how long they have to drill the answers into him.

Trump needs to walk this line very carefully. The country will form much of their opinion on this debate alone. Biden won’t be able to hide behind the media wall of softies. He’s simply not capable of a cohesive debate.

I’d be happier if he were given questions in advance that aren’t even asked. When asked actual questions he’d blunder with “Come on, man. That’s not one of the questions…!”

I’m not worried about Wallace being there. Biden is the question mark.
There’s still a high probability that his handlers will invent an excuse for him to be a no show.

I don’t think we all know that Wallace won’t hold back. Of course he will, Biden is a fellow traveler, he would never be the one responsible for tanking his campaign.

Wouldn’t want to get un-invited from all the important cocktail parties with all the other corridor “elites.”

If the Biden Camp (we know Joe doesn’t have much of a say) thought for a minute that Wallace would be protective and lob softballs, they would have agreed to the interview. They saw the questions Trump got and they saw Trump’s response as to the intensity of the questioning. The gauntlet was down, and they knew if Wallace gave Joe softballs, that the fix was in… and the reason for it and Joe would be sunk.

I’ll kick in $20 to LI if Wallace asks Biden if he and his party will accept the results of the election

Never happen and we already know the answer anyhow. If the communist loses then the election is illegitimate.

Isn’t Chris Wallace the guy who got a “thrill up his leg” every time he thought about Obama? Why should we expect him to grill Biden even close to adequately?

Mary, you have more confidence in Wallace then I do. I doubt Wallace challenges Biden much and if he does and Biden begins to fail, Wallace won’t press him and may even give him cover in a show of mercy.

I haven’t tracked Wallace’s career. Are there instances where he grilled a Democrat as severely as he did Pres. Trump?

It is possible the debate may have to be halted in the middle of it if Biden breaks down and can’t continue, which is a scenario that has likely already been planned for and will no doubt be passed off as a medical emergency of some such.

I hope that the Trump Campaign has some kind of signal jamming set up..

Biden would be lost without that prompter in his ear, or a surgical implant.

What are the odds that Biden will show up for the debate vs some emergency suddenly making it so he can’t?

I don’t see how a medical emergency for Biden will help him avoid the debates. If anything it only confirms the perception that he is too old and frail to handle the job.

I will have my popcorn and shots ready – take a swig every time he rambles an incoherent sentence. Someone better wake me up and tell me what happened afterwards.

Well then, look for the 2nd or is it the 3rd wave of the China virus to ramp up between 9/15-20 – and get everyone all worked up to cancel the debate.

Will Wallace be sending the questions to Donna so Biden can prepare?

ScottTheEngineer | September 2, 2020 at 6:49 pm

I can see Biden getting a question. “Well, the thing is… You need to go some kind of root.. ahh my times up I shouldn’t run over..”
Trump replies….”Nah, go ahead.

Not liking Wallace but hopefully at least all in the same room, no teleprompter or ear piece and if all that and 1 hour Basement Joe won’t stand a chance

Biden is now making the demand that there be real-time fact checking of Trump’s ” lies”

Another Voice in reply to murkyv. | September 3, 2020 at 1:05 pm

I would agree to that if Biden is also held to the same standard. For an example, if MNBC for example fact checks PDJT, then FOX should do like wise for what Biden puts out there.

Weasel Wallace is no friend, he will frame the debate in Biden’s favor. Trump must reject his premise at every turn. Big mistake to agree to him.

“If Wallace plays it fair, which I believe he will…”

You probably believe in rainbow colored unicorns then.

Wallace will spoon feed Biden all the help he needs, and will continuously interrupt and “correct” Trump.

Insane that the R’s allow such extremely biased political activists to be “moderators”.

Remember when CNN gave Donna Brazile ALL of the debate questions weeks in advance, to pass on to Hillary, who then took two weeks off her campaign to practice her answers (and then still had them written out for her and placed on her podium)? Good times!!

CNN hosting another debate this year? Never paid any price for rigging that debate in 2016. Still haven’t confessed to who all was involved in it.

Insane that the R’s allow such extremely biased political activists to be “moderators”.

I would guess they have to agree to those “moderators” in order to get the Dems to agree to “debate”.

But just once I’d like to see Biden subjected to a panel of interviewers as hostile toward him as the MSM has been toward Trump. In the past I’ve suggested Tucker Carlson, Michelle Malkin, and Ann Coulter as interviewers, but even they aren’t as obnoxiously over-the-top as Trump’s interviewers. So, matching outrageousness with outrageousness, I now want to see Biden submit to interrogation by — wait for it — Alex Jones.

Biden running ads in FL basically stating all the violence, rioting, burning and looting has been perpetrated by Trump supporters….unfrinkinbelievable!!@

Shep Wallace moderating….it’s like CNN is there after all.

I wish there was still one member of the press who had credibility as being unbiased.
