CNN’s Chris Cuomo Unaware The First Amendment Protects Only Peaceful Protest

Cuomo: “Show me where it says protesters are supposed to be polite and peaceful.”

https://www.mrctv.org/videos/antifa-backing-cuomo-declares-protests-are-not-required-be-peaceful

Throughout the protests and riots, it has been amazing to watch apologists on CNN defend what is happening. Chris Cuomo is now wondering aloud why protests should be peaceful.

Has he looked out a window lately?

Think back to the Tea Party protests of 2010. No one was killed, and nothing was destroyed. People left spaces cleaner than they found them. And people on CNN called them dangerous, racist and worse.

Now you’ve got people on CNN defending the destruction of American cities. To be fair, Cuomo does make a distinction between the protesters and the rioters, but his message is clear. So what if the protests aren’t peaceful?

Joseph A. Wulfsohn reports at FOX News:

CNN’s Chris Cuomo blasted for suggesting protesters don’t have to be ‘peaceful’

CNN anchor Chris Cuomo raised eyebrows on Tuesday night when he suggested that the George Floyd protesters don’t have to be “polite and peaceful.”

Cuomo blasted those who believe the national “problem” is the riots that have taken place following the death of George Floyd and not the police brutality that prompted the nationwide protests.

“Now too many see the protests as the problem. No, the problem is what forced your fellow citizens to take to the streets: persistent, poisonous inequities and injustice,” Cuomo told his viewers. “And please, show me where it says protesters are supposed to be polite and peaceful. Because I can show you that outraged citizens are what made the country what she is and led to any major milestone. To be honest, this is not a tranquil time.”

He later added, “Police are the ones required to be peaceful, to deescalate, to remain calm.”

Here are a few Twitter reactions:

It’s important to note that Chris Cuomo has repeatedly defended Antifa. In this now famous tweet, he compared them to the American soldiers who stormed the beach at Normandy.

“Congress shall make no law… abridging… the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.”

I want to make sure that phrase, “the right of the people,” is included there. It appears in other amendments too.

“Congress shall make no law respecting … the right of the people PEACEABLY to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”
-First Amendment (emphasis added)

As so an assembly violates the law it becomes a riot:

“[A] tumultuous disturbance of the public peace by three or more persons assembled together and acting with a common intent”
-Merriam-Webster

Sounds like we need to rethink the Tea Party thing and start incorporating militias.

It would be, of course, wrong for me or anyone else to encourage Antifa to stage a riot in Fredo’s neighborhood, to smash and loot buildings, set fire to cars, etc. That would be wrong.

But it would also be delicious to see Fredo’s eyes opened…

      Come on man.
We used to refer to “Godless communists”, but now we have social justice warriors, leftist, who are Godless. They are lacking in morals and self awareness. Their orientation makes shame impossible. Their arrogant pride shackles their thinking.
They deserve our pity as being adrift and separated from God makes the world a very scary thing.

Gotta ask. Are the Cuomos competing to see which one is the dumbest? Did their father’s will leave more to the brother who says or does the dumbest thing? This is getting to be ridiculous. Neither brothers fit to tote guts to a bear.

Could someone read the Constitution, with emphasis on the 1st Amendment, to Fredo? Then teach him how to fill out an unemployment application.

Cuomo wanting it both ways, holding the police to same standards as everyone else yet say, “Police are the ones required to be peaceful, to deescalate, to remain calm.”.

Cuomo is a classic NIMBY, if those looters and rioters were outside his house smashing in his windows he might sing a different tune.
I doubt many people in his Southhampton’s neighborhood would appreciate it either.

We’ll be muttering ‘but the tea party were peaceful’ as democrat-antifa guillotine the lot of us.

And media celebrities will be muttering ‘but we’re on the same side’ as democrat-antifa guillotine the lot of them.

And then Democrats will be muttering ‘but we funded you’ as Antifa guillotine the lot of them.

AOC Stupid. The Cuomo’s are dolts. Truly stupid.

Where in the Bill of Rights that the press can lie? Oh… right there between the lines…look a penumbra!

He knows the answer. He’s a paid propagandist, that’s all.

He’s also a traitor.

Sit down, Fredo.

Well, he’s a reporter by trade, and so he buys into the myth his trade promotes that the first amendment’s “freedom…of the press” refers to its members, and that this gives them a role in our system of government, as a “fourth estate”. (But hardly any of them can name the first three.)

stupid adjective

Definition of stupid
1a: slow of mind : CUOMO

Chris Cuomo throws out what he thinks to be a clever, penetrating, and provocative shard of woke, Lefty rhetoric while he, a law grad, no less, simply forgets or ignores the fact that, while speaking, the First Amendment is upending his moronic monologue via its own direct and express language:

” . . . THE RIGHT OF THE PEOPLE PEACEABLY TO ASSEMBLE . . . ,” it reads; thus, no further enlightening — and his, especially — is needed, for, as even the sometimes brutal and oppressive Romans were wont to say (in the context of determining negligence), “Res ipsa loquitur” — the matter (already) speaks for itself.

So, shut up Chris, you’re an idiot.

He might be one of these lying legal degenerates looking for room to riot, I mean wiggle, in a law’s text by saying, “If it doesn’t prohibit what I want to do, then it might as well be deemed okay to do it. After all, we live in a free country, right?”

On and on, he goes each night, sounding increasingly like a moral nitwit and an habitual liar (certainly an ignorant attorney, if he’s even licensed). But ya know, he, like his masters at CNN, may already “be there”. Who was it that said,

“Watch your thoughts, for they will become actions. Watch your actions, for they’ll become… habits. Watch your habits for they will forge your character. Watch your character, for it will make your destiny.”

— Who? Margaret Thatcher. (Her formal field of study was chemistry, and she sure knew the characteristic actions and reactions that occur to make human nature and, in the aggregate, a worse or better world.)

the problem is what forced your fellow citizens to take to the streets: persistent, poisonous inequities and injustice

No.

What “forced” our “fellow citizens” to take to the streets is persistent, institutionalized, corrosive, mind-numbing black racism.

A black guy dies while in custody of some LE types (who are routinely assumed to be white)—Hot damn! Now I can get myself a free TV! It ain’t stealing as long as I steal it from whitey! Or if I steal it from a business, as anything which functions is automatically “too white.”

Anybody with at least a room-temperature IQ has noticed this childish fantasy. And some have tred to do something about it. Recall a decade or two ago when there was a concerted effort to evade this problem by pushing the weird idea that blacks can’t be racist, by definition? That little fraud doesn’t seem to have caught on. So instead everybody just pretends the problem doesn’t exist. Say anything about it? You must be a racist!

“Racism” is the magic word which paralyzes all thought and action—unless somebody wants a new TV.

The word “peaceful” need not be present in the 1st Amendment. “Rights” and “crimes” are mutually exclusive concepts. There is no right to assemble in order to commit crimes, all lawful assemblies must be peaceable. The Left has the idea that “rights” must be “limited” in order to prevent “crimes,” but this is not so. Rights are self-limiting. The moment a person begins to harm an innocent person or his property, a “right” is no longer being exercised – a “crime” is being committed. There are already laws against crimes.

Because the Left does not make this distinction, it leads to the conflation of “rights” with “crimes,” as in Cuomo’s statement (in which rights under the First Amendment can be exercised in a manner that are less than peaceable, which is the same as saying we have a right to commit at least some crimes). This is why the Left says such things as “The NRA wants to protect your right to murder as many people as possible in the shortest amount of time.” “Murder” is always a crime, but in the leftist’s mind “murder” can be (at least in some circumstances) the result of an “abuse of a right,” when in fact a murder is always the result of a crime. People aren’t arrested for “abusing their rights,” they’re arrested for committing crimes.

Didn’t the Democrats read the entire Constitution on the House floor back ahead of the impeachment hearing ?

Lotta good that did.

It’s a lot like Latin. Anybody can READ it, but only some can UNDERSTAND it.

FREDO is soooo conflicted!

Winaukee_Camper | June 5, 2020 at 3:46 pm

Can someone inform Fredo that the rest of the population doesn’t act like the unhinged asshole that he is. It seems like he’s always physically threatening someone.

BierceAmbrose | June 5, 2020 at 3:52 pm

You say “protest” I say “extortion.”

He’s just not used to anyone having better enforcers than his crew, being the Jr. partner to Big Bro in the famiy business.

They don’t learn because they don’t want to. Pushing 30 years after Rodney King, they’re executing the exact same playbook, because they’d rather have the issue than any improvement. (Any resemblence to every other Screaming-D platform issue is … well, utterly predictable. They really only have three tricks.)

Catching up with a college frient back in the day, she described her “movement’s” plans for action, post a gay-bashing in NYC. They were gonna handcuff in human chains across all the bridges n tunnels at rush hour. “Raising awareness” was the answer when I asked what they wanted out of that.

As we were friends, she took in my response, as the current crop of useful idiots n their vacuous figureheads would not right now. Said I:

“Everybody knows. Maybe there was a time when some people didn’t. That’s not now. Since the bashing, literally every media channel has been carrying statements n plans from literally every politician, functionary, n interest group, declaring what they’re gonna do about this.

“You have a seat at the table. Indeed, gay folk as a group are a precious demographic: more affluent, more eductated, more politically active, more disposable income and time, more inclinded to act on their opinions vs. the population taken whole, and near every other demographic slice you can make.

“Even with a seat at the table, you don’t get everything you ever imagined. Welcome to the grown-up game. You’re in. Start playing, why don’t you?”

But, but, but, as you might imagine. Says I:

“You’ve reached everyone who can be reached by information. You’re confused if you think saying it again will reach committed, programmed knuckleheads. Best we can do is mitigate those. (BTW, youo’re aware that beatings, n even murders go on across all demographics, still? Knuckleheads abound.)

“Blocking traffic at rush hour is just gonna piss off people who get it. Tell them what, or what more to do. Make sense. Blocking traffic, first, won’t hit the gobliuns. Second, people on your side already know this.

“It looks like extortion. Perhaps because that’s exactly what it is. And that’s fine if that’s what you want to od. But do call it what it is — *Do Something or We’ll Throw a Tantrum n Shut It All Down*. And think clearly, because no matter how righteous your cause, people react poorly to extortion.

“BTW, I think this notion is ridiculous. Whatever your activist coordination coalition is, they’re about to demonstrate they can’t judiciously use the power they have — not a great way to get poeple to grant you more.”

I haven’t had to adjust those thoughts for dealing with “activists” for more years than most of them have been alive, now.

Sigh.

“Show me where it says in the constitution…”

Can we play along with abortion, medical care and a living wage?

henrybowman | June 5, 2020 at 8:52 pm

Sure, if you’ll show me where the Second Amendment says “no automatic weapons.”

Gee, isn’t this the “fire in a crowded theatre” exception liberals love to quote when they want to ban “hate” speech (and automatic weapons)?
