Wuhan Virus Watch: Rod Rosenstein’s Sister Gins Up Fear With Her CDC Statement

HHS Secretary Alex Azar gave a much calmer, more reasoned, and likely more factual risk assessment.

The Wuhan Coronavirus cases now stand at 80,598 distributed within 41 different countries and territories. The death toll is currently at 2,712.

Rod Rosenstein’s sister gins up fear with her CDC statement

Yesterday, I looked at how people have used news about COVID-19 as click-bait. Additionally, Professor Jacobson noted that the virus had merged with Trump Derangement Syndrome as a means of attacking President Donald Trump and tanking his outstanding economic success.

One of the challenges I face in analyzing reports about the Wuhan coronavirus is determining propaganda and reality. While I do not believe the Chinese have fully disclosed the number of deaths, I had not anticipated a member of the Center For Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) would use her platform to distort the risks associated with the pathogen to undermine the administration.

Today, reports stated that a CDC official has warned that the agency expects the novel coronavirus to begin spreading in the U.S. at the community level, and that “disruption to everyday life may be severe.”

Dr. Nancy Messonnier, the agency’s director of the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases, said in a press briefing on Tuesday that the time for Americans to begin preparing for a potential outbreak of the virus is now, although officials believe the immediate threat to the public remains low.

“As more and more countries experience community spread, successful containment at our borders becomes harder and harder,” Messonnier said. “Ultimately, we expect we will see community spread in this country. It’s not so much a question of if this will happen anymore, but rather more a question of when this will happen, and how many people in this country will have severe illness.”

The news has spooked investors and impacted the stock market. Imagine my surprise that Dr. Nancy Messonnier has a deeply deep state connection in the form of her brother, former Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.

Being skeptical of all things on social media, I confirmed that this relationship was listed correctly.

Meanwhile, U.S. Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Alex Azar gave a much calmer, more reasoned, and likely more factual risk assessment than Messonnier.

“While the immediate risk to individual members of the American public remains low, there is now community transmission in a number of countries, including outside of Asia, which is deeply concerning,” Azar said, speaking before a Senate appropriations subcommittee. He said recent fast-spreading outbreaks in Iran and Italy were particularly worrying.

“We are working closely with state, local, and private sector partners to prepare for mitigating the virus potential spread in the United States, as we will likely see more cases here,” he said.

Azar said the additional funding would help the U.S. expand surveillance systems for the new virus, support state and local governments, help development of vaccines and therapies and expand stockpiles of protective equipment like surgical masks.

The official HHS press conference:

Azar’s statement is far more consistent with the fact that despite all the several hundred monitored cases of coronavirus in the country, only 53 have turned up positive. And those 53 include 39 who got infected on the cruise ship Diamond Princess, which is quarantined off the coast of Japan.

Larry Kudlow, director of the U.S. National Economic Council, ended up having to spend a good portion of his interview on CNBC trying to stop the apocalypse drama that Messonnier caused with her announcement.

Rounding out this news is that San Francisco, home of Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (who was humiliated by the impeachment acquittal and her childish behavior at the state of the union), has just declared a Wuhan Coronavirus public emergency.

San Francisco Mayor London Breed has declared a local emergency amid coronavirus fears.

“Although there are still zero confirmed cases in San Francisco residents, the global picture is changing rapidly, and we need to step up preparedness,” Breed said in a statement Tuesday. “We see the virus spreading in new parts of the world every day, and we are taking the necessary steps to protect San Franciscans from harm.”

While three people have been treated for COVID-19 at San Francisco hospitals, there have been no confirmed cases of the illness in the city.

While I welcome preparation, the heavy hand of Deep State coordination is transparently clear.

As a biosafety professional, the weaponization of COVID-19 by Deep State bureaucrats to undermine Trump and his administration angers me. Not only do I have to assess Chinese reports for reliability, now every single American publication has become suspect.

And when the cases of virus disappear from the radar, as I predict will happen in the next couple of weeks as we head into spring, this will go down as another #FakeNews media failure.

Priority One – Protect President Trump from the Corona Virus! Cover all possible causes – accidental or treacherous.

The left has really had to stoop to new lows here.

Given the CDC’s habitual pension for expending their mission beyond their core competency, I have little faith in would be health organization gone rouge political. At least this problem is a pathogen and not a machine.

    Given the CDC’s habitual pension

    Perhaps you meant “penchant”? .

At least he wasn’t being niggardly with his words… just imprecise as to a word that is almost a homophone. (Just using words that were used properly but still got their users in PC trouble.)

For all you know it could have been spellchecker replacing a misspelled word. Lay off the hall monitor crap!

notamemberofanyorganizedpolicital in reply to inspectorudy. | February 26, 2020 at 3:43 pm

Yes, my spell checker still insists on sticking in Obama or Hillary every time I type President…….

        Lighten up, Rudy.
(BTW, there were two other misspellings in there.)

Edward in reply to GWB. | February 26, 2020 at 5:59 pm

There were not two misspellings. Rouge was spelled correctly, it just wasn’t rogue. And expending was also spelled correctly, it just wasn’t expanding.

Either could have been, and quite probably were, spell checker reaching in to the grab bag of letters and decided on those two words.

Milhouse in reply to GWB. | February 26, 2020 at 7:01 pm

Nah, “rouge” was not a misspelling. The CDC has gone red.

          Khmer Rouge she is, then.

On the off chance that someone reading the comment would not know the words sought it is worth the effort to post corrections as a way of teaching the correct words. We all (should) wish to appear knowledgeable and using the wrong word doesn’t help foster that image.

We all know it’s computer-dictation world, and computer-spellcheck world.

We understand. No need to correct.

Although sometimes I do, just because I’m so irritated with it!! Not because of the impression it gives.

Thanks. Some of the reactions to that simple correction were startlingly overwrought.

It’s Not Spellchecker! It’s the damn phone misunderstanding his pronunciations!!!!

Happens to me constantly, especially with my own name!

I thought her statement yesterday was breathtakingly irresponsible. I wonder why. Now I know.

The coronavirus is in late stages and will soon have run its course! Quick! More panic warnings!!! And intensify the doom and gloom predictions!!!! Trump is going to kill us all!!!

How does one control spread when a large part of the political process is rooting for a lethal pandemic? A Chinese originated disease in a global community … and it is… at an immensely early stage a President’s fault when he had entrusted experts to sort this out? We need medical doctors and scientists… not those with political officer ideology… we have had enough of Lysenkos and those with Pavlovian Leftist responses (have to fit in Russians somehow these days).

The Democratic party truly is the party of death.

You’ll notice that an inordinate percentage of all these lefties take government paychecks; that they’re not in the dreaded private sector where things are produced, where needed services are delivered, where wealth is created.

They truly are grifters, parasites.

notamemberofanyorganizedpolicital in reply to fscarn. | February 26, 2020 at 3:40 pm

Last month a report stated its findings that of university professors who had contributed to a political campaign, 97% of them donated to Democrats!

    97% – Democrats!

I suspect a listing of Federal employees who are DEMS
    would be SCARY HIGH!

Great catch, Leslie.

In certain important respects, the CDC is not to be trusted. It sometimes is a propaganda outlet acting on behalf of secret agendas. Way back when AIDS first was recognized as a problem, the CDC exaggerated the risk of heterosexual transmission in order to obtain increased funding. See,

Now, some CDC employees desire to create panic to continue to disrupt commerce and, from their point of view, hopefully reduce Trump’s chances of being reelected.

GWB in reply to Ira. | February 26, 2020 at 3:55 pm

They also exaggerated it because they didn’t want to do the obvious thing and quarantine those infected. It was politically incorrect who the carriers were.

Close The Fed in reply to Ira. | February 26, 2020 at 8:08 pm

Ira, how did you put the bold font in ??

    Thank you.

      Hi Close The Fed,
      For this website, html tags.
Unfortunately, I have not found an easily accessible list of such tags. This site might be helpful:

From what I understand, a tag code (e.g., “b” for bold, “i” for italics, “blockquote” for an indented quotation) is placed between outwardly facing arrowheads (i.e., greater than and less than symbols) at the start of the text to be highlighted with that same tag code preceded by a “/” between arrowheads at the end of such text.

For example, for bold, start by putting a “b” between a “”. To end the bolded text, put a “/b” between a “”.

Ira in reply to Ira. | February 27, 2020 at 9:58 am

To show just how hard this is, the arrowheads disappeared between the quotation marks in my above “tutorial.”

She’s incompetent, crooked, stupid – or all three.

Get rid of her.

BRAVO BRAVO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wait! Isn’t this the same group that wanted no wall built and no restrictions on immigration from ANY country? Who looks like fools now? These same people claim that Trump’s 2.5 billion dollars are not enough, but can’t Congress appropriate more if needed? I understand they have put a lot of their wish list crap in the appropriations bill so that is why it is so high. Just like the left to use a national crisis to fund their pet causes. This is the hoax-of-the-day now that the Russian and Ukrainian ones have failed.

The Wuhan Coronavirus cases now stand at 80,598 in China with fewer than 5,000 of those distributed within 41 different 40 other countries and territories.

While panic and ‘omg zombie time’ are over-reactions, the bug will make its way here eventually. It’s easily transmitted and doesn’t immobilize those who are infected. Half of the USA doesn’t wash its hands after using the pooper, so the level of hand/face/food sanitation required to slow, much less stop this bug ain’t happening here either.

CDC setting a trap for Trump?

CDC seems to be unfocused. InstaPundit has commented on this fora while.

And a USA Column from 2014
CDC multitasking hurts Ebola fight: Column
Glenn Harlan Reynolds

And with WHO, their leadership seems to be beholden to China, so their statistics and recommendations are suspect.

And for some reason the CDC and FDA are not allowing other labs in the US to do testing. I read that somewhere, and the lack of testing, and issues with testing, I find frustrating. Seems tests won’t always pick it up, but if they pick it up it’s true. So no false positives, but some false negatives.

I am frustrated at the lack of good information on CoronaVirus.

@Leslie – I hope you are right.

>when the cases of virus disappear from the radar, as I predict
>will happen in the next couple of weeks as we head into spring

The current reported cases all seem to be in cooler areas (Northern Italy, Wuhan, South Korea, and Qoms). And in tropical areas it does not seem to be spreading.

My worry, is the reason its not being seen as spreading in tropical areas, is the lack of testing. If you don’t test, you have a zero infection rate per the test results…

Brazil reported its firzt confirmed case of COVID-19 today. The disease is now reported on every continent except Antarctica.

I knew she was a member of the Deep State when I heard her statement. And the San Francisco Emergency declaration was clearly political.

All this rises to the level where one person designated this the world’s first political pandemic.

If the repubs take both houses and the presidency the paybacks should be massive and vicious.
Rout them to the point that if they ever decide to stage another coup they’ll know they’re facing severe penalties.

So, did she have a hand in moving the quarentined folks to the US on commercial flights contra the Presidents orders?

A lot of people want to dunk on Rosenstein’s sister, but she is not lying. The WHO estimates that about 20% of people who catch this virus never get sick. They sheep the virus though.

They don’t spread it like an actively sick person with a fever, but they are spreading it. Now it appears Asians have the most of the protein in the lung cells that the virus attaches to, while European ancestry has the least, it still spreads as Italy shows.

Maybe we will Luck out and when temperatures rise in North America, because the virus like cooler temps to survive on surfaces, I doubt it very much. This women isn’t making up out of whole cloth like the intel briefers that told Adam Schiff and buddies Russia is interfering on behalf of Trump again, yet can’t cite any intercept or source that says that, just that they are interfering.

This virus is running. It’s popping up all over Italy, in Thailand, Sourh Korea, Iran the health minister has it! He’s sick at a press conference, exposing everyone in the room. And they admitted he is ill, it’s not a rumor!

This virus is everywhere. It gestates very slowly, and people are spreading it while not sick yet. The strong evidence (Not 100% confirmed, I admit.) that 20 to 30% of people catch it don’t get sick, yet they can spread it.

It’s been 101 years since the last bad pandemic. This one is not as nasty as Spanish Flu, but it causes 15% of those ill to have lung issues and two percent (2%) wil die. Most are over 60 or with underlying health issues, but people die from this.

The average spread ratio of the flu is 1.4 to 1.7. This virus is above a 2, so for every person sick, they spread it to two other people. The numbers on that is staggering.

I know the President is being calm and reassuring, and this isn’t a bug that kills like the Black Plague or something, but it is very serious and very transmissible person to person, unlike SARS or MERS.

So when the CDC says it is coming, it is coming. People are going to get into America with it undetected, and make people sick ? with it. So get used to the idea, and you will be in quarantine voluntarily to stay away from others, but not a total one like folks suspected of being exposed.

You’re going to end up sitting at home, bored as hell. It’s better than getting sick and rolling dice you’re not the 15% who gets lung issues from it. Not being an alarmist, but this is coming and nothing is going to stop it.

I agree with your factual representation Dwo888. However, Rosenstein’s sister went into panic mode. The presentaton by the President and his team yesterday delivered the facts responsibly.

Exactly correct. I’m willing to bet after her disaster of an appearance, she received instructions from above to STFU before she did any more damage.

That Rosenstien DingBat needs to be FIRED! She’s a deep state loser like her brother. Trump needs to fire her @$$
