FLASHBACK: Biden Brags About Getting Ukrainian Prosecutor Investigating Son Fired and Democrats Wrote Ukraine, Asking for Investigation of Trump

This is the game the Democrats want to play, so, game on.

Without having seen the transcript of the call, Democrats pulled the impeachment trigger Tuesday, alleging with no proof that Trump pressured the Ukrainian president to investigate Biden or risk loosing US military aid. President Zelensky denied this was the context of their conversation, and we learned Wednesday that Zelensky was correct when the White House released the transcript of the call.

Rabid, frothing mouthed Democrats have been impatiently waiting in the wings to chew a bite out of Trump for something actually unlawful.  They went all in on this call, which so far, is almost completely a nothingburger. And then the OLC released a report explaining why they were kicking the whistleblower allegations to Congress and essentially concluded the whistleblower was 1) a Democrat 2) didn’t (doesn’t) like the president, and 3) was based entirely on hearsay and for various other reasons, not an “urgent concern.” Basically, Peter Strzok all over again. Maybe it is Peter Strzok… I jest, but at this point nothing would surprise me.

In any case, back in 2018 former Vice President Biden bragged about pressuring Ukrainian officials to fire the prosecutor investigating his son (who was involved in some seriously shady business dealings with Burisma) or risk losing out on a $1 billion loan from the US. Biden’s bribe was successful. And bonus, it’s allllllll on tape!

As The Federalist points out, the relevant portion of Biden’s bragfest is here:

I remember going over and convincing our team, others, to convince that we should be providing for loan guarantees. And I went over, I guess, the 12th, 13th time to Kiev. And I was supposed to announce that there was another billion-dollar loan guarantee. And I had gotten a commitment from Poroshenko and from Yatsenyuk that they would take action against the state prosecutor. And they didn’t.So they said they had—they were walking out to a press conference. I said, nah, I’m not going to—or, we’re not going to give you the billion dollars. They said, you have no authority. You’re not the president. The president said—I said, call him. (Laughter.) I said, I’m telling you, you’re not getting the billion dollars. I said, you’re not getting the billion. I’m going to be leaving here in, I think it was about six hours. I looked at them and said: I’m leaving in six hours. If the prosecutor is not fired, you’re not getting the money. Well, son of a b-tch. (Laughter.) He got fired. And they put in place someone who was solid at the time.

So, that happened.

But wait, there’s more!

Also in 2018, three Democrat Senators, Sens. Robert Menendez (D-NJ), Richard J. Durbin (D-IL), and Patrick J. Leahy (D-VT) wrote to Ukraine’s prosecutor general and not so subtly threatened to withdraw support over investigations they believed were critical to the Mueller report fiasco.

From the WaPo:

It got almost no attention, but in May, CNN reported that Sens. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.), Richard J. Durbin (D-Ill.) and Patrick J. Leahy (D-Vt.) wrote a letter to Ukraine’s prosecutor general, Yuriy Lutsenko, expressing concern at the closing of four investigations they said were critical to the Mueller probe. In the letter, they implied that their support for U.S. assistance to Ukraine was at stake. Describing themselves as “strong advocates for a robust and close relationship with Ukraine,” the Democratic senators declared, “We have supported [the] capacity-building process and are disappointed that some in Kyiv appear to have cast aside these [democratic] principles to avoid the ire of President Trump,” before demanding Lutsenko “reverse course and halt any efforts to impede cooperation with this important investigation.”

So, it’s okay for Democratic senators to encourage Ukraine to investigate Trump, but it’s not okay for the president to allegedly encourage Ukraine to investigate Hunter Biden?

It’s the hypocrisy of it all, really. Which is not to say that we can’t simultaneously examine serious charges against Trump (though there’ve yet to surface any allegations meeting the qualification of “serious”) while also scrutinizing the actions of his accusers. We can and especially here at LI, do.

Democrats have worked super hard to completely and wholly personify what regular ol’ Americans hate about politics and the political system. So, kudos to them? Allowing their juvenile impulse and delusions to run wild, blinded by everything that doesn’t jive with “Orang Man Bad”, Democrats, the progressive grassroots, their media cheer leaders, and Hollywood’s lame lecturing are going to render the whole lot of them completely irrelevant, and quickly.
