Trump Will Release Transcripts of Conversation With Ukrainian President Zelensky

For better or worse, Democrats have doubled down on the impeachment narrative.

The Ukraine scandal food fight is about to get a whole lot more interesting.

Tuesday, Trump announced via Twitter that he would release the “complete, fully declassified and unredacted transcript of my phone conversation with President Zelensky of Ukraine.” In this particular conversation, Trump has been accused of pressuring Zelensky to investigate former Vice President Biden, whose son’s company received favorable business dealings with Ukrainians while Biden was in office.

Democrats and anti-Trump Republicans have used the Ukraine allegations to bolster their case for impeachment, even though President Zelensky has said he was not pressured by Trump and up to this point, those calling for impeachment have no actual details about the conversation that remains (in their minds) an impeachable offense.

Professor Jacobson blogged:

We know almost nothing about the complaint or the conversation, but that has not stopped a full-blown “we’ve got him now!” type joyfulness throughout the mainstream media and Never-Trump-land.

Lack of actual facts has not stopped Democrat candidates and various pundits from declaring that this is further ground for impeachment.

The initial claim was that Trump threatened to withhold aid to Ukraine if it didn’t investigate the business dealings of Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, while Joe was Vice President. Then the story changed, and maybe there wasn’t a quid pro quo, and maybe the whistleblower never actually heard the conversation. And so on and so on, a classic case of how the media tries and convicts Trump based on anonymous, shifting, and usually misinformed leaks.

The foreign minister of Ukraine is now on record that there was no pressure put on the Ukrainian president in the conversation.

We’ve been here, done that, dozens of times. Is this time different? Will they “get” Trump on this? As with the Russia Collusion claims, I’ll take it seriously when there is actual evidence. Until then, it’s just politically driven mischief masquerading as news.

As an aside, there is a pernicious effect to leaking conversations a U.S. president has with the leaders of foreign countries, something that has plagued Trump since the start of his administration. But that’s a post for another time.

There is an important story here that may take down a candidate. That candidate isn’t Donald Trump, it’s Joe Biden.

And so, for better or worse, Democrats have doubled down on the impeachment narrative.

Given how things have done the last few years, namely the non-existent Russia scandal, I imagine this too will explode in their faces. Not that they’ll learn from it.

I don’t understand all of the noise over this “call”. Isn’t this what world leaders do? Talk with each other?
No?

Why don’t they have two people talk out the transcript – they can put in all of the sound effects of the conversation. OF course, the press will still find that one sentence to blow up out of context.

And OT – on the “winking as a conspiracy” question by that Dearborn babe, I think every person testifying at a committee hearing should start winking at different people. Perhaps, Trump can start winking at Acosta and other CNN people!

The Dems will claim the transcripts contain grounds for impeachment, no matter how benign they appear to be. But the general public will be royally annoyed if the call transcripts are benign.

The Dems will be like a friend of mine once ended up. She was at a stable and was holding a mare that was being bred. It was the stallion’s first time. He mounted the mare and thrust…but missed. He fired his “shot” anyways and my friend got slimed. That is going to be what happens to the Dems.

/s We have to impeach him to find out what he’s guilty of /s

    nice one

    take my up vote 😀

That does beg an interesting question: can an investigation be challenged on the basis that is not investigating a crime? Sort of a form of “have his carcass”?

technically – the House can impeach for nearly any reason they want, even if it is not a legitimate one

and they only need a simple majority

thing is though, the Senate has to have a 2/3 vote conviction for a president to be removed

problem the Dems are going to have here in this impeachment inquiry (now official) is that there is no actual crime to investigate

Russiagate turned out to be a dud and the Ukraine call will be one as well when Trump releases the transcript

so their only investigation into Ukraine “meddling” will be based around an anon whistleblower who reported about that call from another anonymous source by way of third party account

but the funny thing is – this could actually spur an actual investigation into the Biden-Ukraine scandal that has only been rarely talked about by the mainstream media

lets say the Senate is like – “hey let’s investigate whether there was any truth to this or not”

or AG Barr appoints a special counsel to investigate whether or not Biden used his position as VP to do some foreign meddling himself

Maybe things are happening behind the scenes, but Barr just hasn’t given me the warm fuzzies with his actions so far.

The slow walking of these investigations which, despite showing clearly having issues which should lead to charges of crimes against the coup attempt participants, and then being treated as Hillary was after those crimes were passed over, leave me cold.

Ukraine and Biden’s admitted criminal actions will be another such deal, and will be swept under the rug if he drops out “for health reasons”.

Is this how we’re going to do government from now on?

“Whistleblower:” I hoid tings, I hoid tings.
dems: What things did you hear whistleblower???
“Whistleblower: Really bad tings.
dems: Bad things about what??? About who whistleblower???
“Whistleblower:” It was Twump!!!
dems: IMPEACH!!!

I’m very willing to wait for the whisleblower report and the phone call transcript. Unlike the “collusion” dud, this is a narrowly-focused issue, and those two documents should be pretty straightforward.

If this turns out to be another empty pot, I think it’s going to be all she wrote for the Democrats and the media next year. Their credibility with persuadable voters is stretched quite thin these days; if this winds up being another dud I don’t see how they’ll recover.

In the meantime, I have no trouble at all with waiting for a few days to see if there’s any “there” there. I will be quite surprised if this is anything but a dud, but let’s see what they have and go from there. I’m glad Trump is releasing the information. It suggests that he’s confident there’s nothing there.

If this does get released and turns to be another nothing burger, then I will wonder if this was a set up by Trump to push the never Trumpers and National Socialist to this breaking point.

It will leave them looking beyond foolish. The continual cry of wolf bit.

IF it is a nothing, yet they proceed to pursue this political action, the people will need to rise up against it and march on Washington DC, crowd the Capitol and prevent them from doing business. That might even get the Propaganda media’s attention that their biased narrative is failing.

We are in danger of losing our republic. I’m not sure the stuffed ballot box the leftist’s continually use will the means to put these corrupt “leaders” out of power.

I fear this is another push by the left to encourage hostilities to break out, the left wants a civil war to push in their take over and throwing out the Constitution.

If indeed it will “explode in their faces”, I hope someone snaps a photo! Democrats in black face is good for Trump!

As always, next year’s election will be a battle over the persuadable portion of the electorate, which in Trump’s case is probably 10% of the voters and certainly no more than 20%.

The regulars here naturally hoot at all of this, but it’s not about this group just as it’s not about the devotees of MSNBC, Vox, and Salon.

I think the Mueller dud, combined with the histrionics of the non-Fox media, have pushed independents and other persuadables to the brink of complete indifference. The Democrats had been nail him on this, or I think it’ll be the end of them and their media with respect to 2020 and maybe quite a bit more.

American elections are less about the persuadable portion of the electorate than about the barely motivated portion. Bringing out your base, and convincing your opponents base to stay home, is worth more than persuading the swing voters.
