A new film called “The Hunt” that features liberal elites hunting “deplorables” for sport, which was due to be released in September, has been dropped by Universal Studios.

The Hollywood Reporter has details:

Universal Scraps ‘The Hunt’ Release Following Gun Violence Uproar

The studio’s decision came a day after President Trump took aim at the film, saying it was “made to inflame and cause chaos.” The story follows a group of elites hunting “deplorables” for sport.

Universal has decided to scrap the release of The Hunt — an R-rated satire in which elites hunt “deplorables” for sport — following a series of mass shootings across the country. The film had been set to hit theaters on Sept. 27.

The studio’s Saturday announcement came a day after President Donald Trump took aim at the film — though he didn’t name its title — and Hollywood, saying on Twitter, “Liberal Hollywood is Racist at the highest level, and with great Anger and Hate! They like to call themselves “Elite,” but they are not Elite. In fact, it is often the people that they so strongly oppose that are actually the Elite. The movie coming out is made in order to inflame and cause chaos. They create their own violence, and then try to blame others. They are the true Racists, and are very bad for our Country!”

Even before Trump weighed in, the movie sparked an outcry on social media amid the public anger over gun violence and networks entered into the conversation when ESPN pulled an ad for the film that it had previously cleared. Subsequently, Universal pulled all spots.

Here are Trump’s tweets:

This obviously doesn’t mean the film will never be released, Universal could always release it at a later time, and given the amount of free advertising it has received, it could still do well at the box office.

Here’s a copy of the statement Universal released regarding their decision:

Some people on the right have been critical of those who spoke out against the film, pointing out that the “deplorables” in the film are the good guys who likely win in the end. This misses the point entirely.

We are already living in an environment where “deplorables” are being targeted in real life for harassment and worse. When a person can be beaten up for merely wearing a MAGA hat in public, it’s not much of a consolation to hear that the “deplorables” have a fighting chance in a film about people hunting and killing them for sport.

Over at Ace of Spades HQ, Ace has written a lengthy analysis of this which is worth your time:

Your Daily Cuckstorm: Effeminate, Emasculated Twitter Soyboys Are On, Get This, Twitter, Shrieking About, Get This, How Dumb Conservatives Are and How Much Smarter Than Conservatives They Are

I know, I know. You just can’t believe it, right.

Oh, and they’re talking about — get this — movies.

Talking about movies on Twitter? It’s a day of Firsts for the cucks.

This is about The Most Deplorable Game movie, aka The Hunt.

So, they’re shrieking that conservatives are stupid for daring to imagine that a Hollywood movie about Deplorables might actually depict Deplorables in a bad light.

Can you imagine Those Stupid, Stupid Inbred Conservatives suspecting that liberal Hollywood elites might have it in for them?

Two possibilities as to the real reason for cancellation:

The movie was going to lose a lot of money, it was that bad.

or

Hollyweird realized that the movie released before the 2020 elections was going to hurt Democrats at the voting booth by inspiring deplorables to get out and vote.

I would go with the second explanation. I would guess a lot of the costs are sunk, and when did Hollyweird care about losing a little money to promote the narrative.

Or… they fear the Trump led backlash/boycott by a majority of this country against Universal Studios and Hollywood.

I think Trump is due credit for their decision to drop the release.

This is already a colossal liberal boomerang coming back at them.

There are those, like John Nolte at Breitbart, who see’s this film’s release as so damaging to the left that he said he wanted it released.

I agree with you, and I have been saying on other forums since the day after the shootings, a week ago, that this film was going to get yanked. Doesn’t matter who were the “good guys” or “bad guys” were – what killed it was how horrible it would be for Hollywood to promote, for profit, a spectacle of Americans hunting each other down for fun. Universal would have become a political punching bag for the next 18 months, and they weren’t going to take that risk, nor for same lame little low budget movie.

Another possibility is that it’s theme parallels the Epstein case.

Innocents abused by powerful elites, many/most of whom are lefties. Maybe hit a nerve?

I wonder how many prominent Hollywood folks took that flight to Jeffry’s naughty island? But what am I thinking, they have an endless supply of hopeful stars/starlets eager to do anything on a casting couch for a role in their POS films.

Low-IQ dangerous right wing groups are commonly bad guys in movies, substituting for Muslims in newly important terrorism plots. The movie just dropped the now worn-out terrorism part.

This just hit a competing entertainment, mass shootings, at the wrong time.

The plot looked awful but that’s nothing new. There aren’t really that many different movies, if you look at story structure.

I know it’s only a movie, but in what kind of world would “elites,” by which I suppose they mean lawyers, college professors, CEOs, media types, etc., be able to successfully hunt “deplorables,” who after all, according to Barry O., love their guns and God?

Since we haven’t seen the movie, we don’t know who wins.

But Hollywood story structure suggests the hunted win.

I have read reports on the movie plot and the spoiler is that in the end, the victims win.

But are the survivors actually deplorables, or does the movies have them get woke along the way, thereby allowing them to deserve to live, while the unrepentant Trump supporters are deservedly killed in gruesome manners?

Streisand Effect. It will have more influence due to its cancellation.

Can they change the name of the movie to “The Punt”? (Heheheh…heh…eh)

Marketing makes or breaks the bottom line, here, and essentially anywhere in politics. In the language of politics, many innocuous actions, words or phrases define how those are perceived and subsequently used. Currently, that language seems to go one way only and that way invariably comes from the left. The phrase “gun violence” is one of these phrases. In Cambridge Mass, there is a church I frequently drive by prominently displaying signs for black lives matter and end gun violence. That bothers me because really, life matters, and if we are talking about ending life, why would a gun be different than any other weapon.

My thesis states the language is important because the gun is the real target, not the violence. The statement end gun violence is very different than end violence with a gun. Ending the violence doesn’t give as many options to confiscating someone’s firearm though.

No!!! For the sake of social justice and progress, and environmentalism, the witches must be burned, the warlocks must be dunked, and the babies… fetuses must be Planned, and other carbon emissions must be sequestered.

The disappointing thing is the right buying into e.g. movies cause violence. That’s the left’s line about any speech in general.

Liberal Hollywood is Racist at the highest level, and with great Anger and Hate! They like to call themselves “Elite,” but they are not Elite. In fact, it is often the people that they so strongly oppose that are actually the Elite . . . They create their own violence, and then try to blame others. They are the true Racists . . .

Not sufficiently elegant to chisel on a block of marble somewhere . . . but if any NeverTrumpers are still concerned that once in office DJT will, sooner or later, turn into a squish like all the rest of them, I think they can finally stop worrying.

Filthy deplorables need to be put in their place. Every single TV show, movie, book and article tells us that every day.

Deplorables get what they deserve. You don’t get to build this country and run it after you’re no longer America’s majority. Remember magic dirt made ilhan Omar not your equal but your better. Enjoy your fetters may they rest lightly on you.

This decision greatly disappoints me. Not least because I fully expected, after seeing the trailer showing the arrogant elites putting deplorable common folk into halters & then setting out to hunt them down, that the “twist” at the end would be, as surmised in the OP, that the deplorables would turn the tables on the elites!

That’s the kind of movie I enjoy, where the underdog overcomes his tormentors and arises victorious, against all the odds. Now I won’t get to see it, whether that is or isn’t the actual plotline.

But the decision disappoints me in a much more fundamental way: that’s that the screaming banshees of both the Left and the Right are now shutting down freedom of speech.

I’m very angry about the censorship & banning that occurs on Big Tech platforms; I want freedom of speech, and believe that the only way to effectively drive out bad speech is by good speech which, using facts, reason & logic, proves the bad speech is bad!

Now this movie has effectively been censored. We can’t see it to make up our own minds whether its message is good or bad. That means that once again, evil has won! Our freedom to see & hear for ourselves has been curtailed, and many of us are applauding this & calling it good. That chills me!

Cheer up. It will probably go direct to DVD.

Tom Servo in reply to Eskyman. | August 11, 2019 at 5:05 pm

When a whole lot of us on both sides are just about ready to pull out the guns and start shooting each other for real, it’s not “entertainment” to make a movie showing people doing that. It’s blatant incitement, and this studio would litereally end up with blood on its hands if they had let this go on.

You think it would be “entertaining” – how “entertaining” would it be if someone got so pissed off at how they perceived it that they decided to do another Aurora, Colorado movie theater incident during a performance? What if 10 disturbed people did that at 10 theaters around the country – would that still be “Entertaining”?

that’s what this movie was calling for. that’s why it had to be shut down, as well as any more like it.

kyrrat in reply to Eskyman. | August 11, 2019 at 7:32 pm

You will be able to see it. Give it three to six months and it will quietly go to a streaming service. I expect Hulu or Netflix would be glad to take it.

There is zero chance that the far left Blumhouse Productions would make a movie where the Deplorables turned out to be the good guys and/or innocent victims. Zero.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swept_Away_(1974_film)

My roommate at Oberlin considered this the best film ever made about class struggle. I find it interesting that nowadays the roles would be reversed from the movie, with the yacht owner a wealthy liberal from Hollywood and the deckhand a blue collar deplorable, just sayin.

The movie has already gone to streaming. A large number of movies are doing this rather than the big screen, they make more money. With the free advertisement that this received, it will likely make a bunch of money.
