Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has had numerous health issues in recent years, which is not surprising considering she is 86-years-old.

In July 2018, Ginsburg promised to hang on at least 5 more years, i.e., until after Trump’s first term in the hope a Democrat would replace him in 2020.

But her health took a downturn in late 2018, after tumors were discovered after an examination for fractured ribs. That resulted in a hospitalization and recovery that caused her to miss Supreme Court oral arguments for the first time.

NBC News reports on Ginsburg’s latest heath issue:

Supreme Court Associate Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg recently underwent a fresh round of treatment for a cancerous tumor on her pancreas, the high court said in a statement Friday.

The three-week radiation treatment, performed at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City, was administered after doctors discovered a “localized malignant tumor” on her pancreas July 31, the statement said.

The treatment — called stereotactic ablative radiation therapy — was administered in an outpatient setting for a three-week period that began Aug. 5. Doctors also inserted a bile duct stent as part of the treatment, which Ginsburg completed Friday, the court said.

In the statement, the court said that Ginsburg “tolerated treatment well” and that “no further treatment is needed at this time.”

“The tumor was treated definitively and there is no evidence of disease elsewhere in the body,” the court said. “Justice Ginsburg will continue to have periodic blood tests and scans.”

Seems like there is a serious effort to calm nerves — not Ginsburg’s nerves, the nerves of Democrats and liberals.

The reason everyone watches Ginsburg’s health so carefully is that a Supreme Court seat hangs in the balance. Mitch McConnell and Trump have promised to fill a Supreme Court vacancy in 2020. But there’s more.

Ginsburg is their Scalia, their everything. But they don’t control the Senate or presidency at least through 2020, so they can’t ‘Merrick Garland’ a Trump nominee to fill the Ginsburg seat.

Liberals are so worried that in early 2019, Politico Chief Political Columnist Asked if You’d Give Days Off Your Life for Ginsburg.

It’s so serious, even Russia-collusion-nutter Trump-Derangement-Syndrome-stricken Harvard Law Prof. Laurence Tribe is asking people to pray:

To #Resistance fanatic Amy Siskind, “Some days it feels like she is all that stands between us and the abyss.”

The freak out experienced election night 2016 will be nothing like the the freak out that will take place at the Trump tweet announcing future-Justice Amy Coney Barrett.

Prayers for Ginsburg, but there is no cure for pancreatic cancer.

She survived pancreas cancer twice…lung cancer once…colon cancer once.

I would like to get the name of her oncologisits

I almost could not believe it.

This morning the national CBS news was telling the same Lies about RGB they did last year when she went down.

        Todays BIG LIE:

“Last night RGB went to watch Moulin Rouge. Then she pleasantly surprise all Dem/Leftist/Communist Baby Murderers by jumping up on the stage and taking the lead role. She danced the can can for 5 hours straight – non-stop. She even levitated with both legs held high in mid-air for minutes at a time floating on her own wind!”

Forgive the little bit of hyperbole but that is how crazy the Communist Bribed MSM is, and how stupid they think “We the People” are – to believe their complete fairy tales.

I will not pray for her death, i will pray that it is quick and painless, especially the quick part.

Despite her being extremely liberal, my feelings are like those of Luke Skywalker in the Return of the Jedi….I know there is some good in her…..I pray at night that she will come to the conclusion that stepping down and letting POTUS Trump replace her with Amy Barrett-Coney would be the best thing for our country…..

I still hold a glimmer of hope….

    artichoke in reply to vmax71. | August 23, 2019 at 5:27 pm

Last time there was a nomination, I hadn’t seen enough opinions from Amy Barrett-Coney to be convinced she’s a top choice. I was thinking she’d be a pick for Trump’s second term if she puts in a few good years at the appellate level. But Trump has much better information than I do.

JusticeDelivered in reply to artichoke. | August 23, 2019 at 6:46 pm

She could step down for a little enterainment, I bet she could get a part in Walking Dead, or some other horror production.

    “I still hold a glimmer of hope…”
By that I take it you mean a chance that Ginsburg might step down and her replacement nominated by President Trump. Or perhaps you mean more specifically, a glimmer of hope that she would be replaced by Amy Barrett-Coney. As Captain Ramius said in Hunt for Red October, “Personally, I’d give us one chance in three.”

Paul In Sweden in reply to vmax71. | August 23, 2019 at 7:17 pm

Are you kidding me? If Ginsburg stepped down they would burn her in effigy on both coasts, and twice every Sunday in Chicago. IF Ginsburg dies prior to election day 2020 and that is a BIG IF I really think it will be too much for the hearts of so many DNC Snowflakes that I honestly believe some of them will literally die. And I will be laughing myself silly the moment I read the headlines of her demise. God Bless America!

But what I probably meant to say was something like JusticeDelivered said above, “I will not pray for her death, i will pray that it is quick and painless, especially the quick part.”

    BerettaTomcat in reply to vmax71. | August 26, 2019 at 12:40 pm

My guess is she recently praised her conservative colleagues because she knows the end is near, her days of subverting American justice are over, and she wants to be remembered for speaking well of her adversaries on the court –something the media will repeat often in the wake of her death.

She has only her own narcissism to blame for a conservative replacing her, as she should have retired in the seventh year natural-born British East African’s usurpation.

theduchessofkitty | August 23, 2019 at 5:23 pm

Even atheists fervently pray for her recovery. Fervently pray…

But when we pray for the victims of massacres and their next of kin like in El Paso or Dayton, they mock our thoughts and prayers mercilessly – like the mean bastards they truly are.

Hypocrites!

She’s ill. She should retire and live her remaining days in peace. But YOU WON’T LET HER!

notamemberofanyorganizedpolicital in reply to theduchessofkitty. | August 23, 2019 at 6:17 pm

Those Communist Bought Dems have also been praying that the U.S. go into recession harming hundreds of millions of innocent Americans.

Prayer is always the right decision, I’m praying for her and the country. I’m glad I am in God’s hands and not our princesses.

Interesting. The Left has found something that makes them believe in the power of prayer.

On a more serious note, I wish Justice Ginsburg the healthiest of retirements, with many relaxed years off the bench for her to critique the remaining members from the sidelines.

    oldgoat36 in reply to georgfelis. | August 23, 2019 at 7:40 pm

I’m not sure that prayers to the National Socialists are particularly effective, but hey, they will offer more bodies to throw on the altar of abortion as well, so their “god” might listen.

I don’t wish for her to die, yet the end comes to us all. My prayers consist only of asking that God confound the enemies of this country, that we might experience the best this country has to offer. I don’t pray to shorten a life, though I would not be saddened to hear she has her appointment to meet her maker. I am not a good enough person to say I wouldn’t rejoice at Hillary’s passing.

Sympathy for the Justice. This is a horrible disease. It took my mom, and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone.

The essence of this liberal prayer request is to “protect abortion by protecting RBG” … how evil. Do they think the Father is so dumb He won’t see through their in-genuine concern for RBG to their evil motive which is to protect abortion?

Strange isn’t it – when people pray “my will be done” when the Son of God taught us to pray “thy will be done”?

notamemberofanyorganizedpolicital in reply to MrE. | August 23, 2019 at 6:19 pm

You mean Leftist Dems are praying they can keep murdering babies and organ harvesting from them for their own ill-gotten gains?

Now that I can believe of them.

The media embargoed this latest RBG health news for more than three weeks.

I find it incredible and probably untrue that Ginsburg is cancer free – that’s essentially what the press release infers by stating “no evidence of disease.”

Another beautiful achievement for modernity, cancer is a prop for a political agenda, Rahm Emanuel would be so proud

I’m wondering what liberals will do when RBG finally kicks the bucket- and I copy and paste every single d— one of the comments they’ve made over the last day or two about David Koch to comment on her death.

As the Left is fond of reminding us, thoughts and prayers are useless. Maybe a bipartisan bill to ban cancer would do the trick.

Amy Siskind, “Some days it feels like she is all that stands between us and the abyss.”

The left can not win in the arena of ideas. They need their activists installed in the court, otherwise any plain reading of the law would prevail and liberal ideas/policies would be rejected.

Look at that amy siskind quote. If rbg passes with President Donald J. Trump in office and a GOP senate majority, I honestly believe we might see a lot of violence from the left.

Having said that, I would not wish cancer on anyone, and I pray for rbg’s health.

Not a doctor, nor do I play one on TV. But I have been around hospitals a lot more than I like.

She has had malignant tumors, as noted, twice in the pancreas, once in the colon, and once in the lung. stereotactic ablative radiation was used on the latest pancreatic tumor, and a bile duct stent inserted. The bile ducts carry bile produced exclusively by the liver down to join with the hepatic duct which carries other products down to the cystic duct [thus forming the “common bile duct” which then flows down to the intestine. Note that the bile duct is at the top of this chain and is up by the liver. If the bile ducts are blocked to the point where a stent has to be inserted to keep them open . . . what blocked them? Noting that what was being dealt with near that location with radiation was a malignant tumor. Malignant tumors adjacent to/contained within the liver, even if excised or ablated, may still pop up in the liver. Liver cancer on top of all the other tumors she has had would probably not indicate a long life.

And noting that I got this from the internet so that it is not medical gospel by any means, but I saw that the stereotactic body radiation therapy was listed as only under study for pancreatic cancer. So this use might be taken as having a measure of desperation.

Are there any oncologists here that can discuss this purely theoretically? Of course, you cannot speak about her specifically in the absence of her being your patient, and cannot for ethical reasons discuss her if she is your patient, so theoretically only.

Subotai Bahadur

Not a doctor here, but given her advanced age, perhaps her doctors thought that the radiation therapy would be less risky for her than surgery? Even if the radiation therapy is still considered experimental for pancreatic cancer, it may have seemed like the better choice for a patient as elderly and frail as Ginsburg.

alaskabob in reply to Subotai Bahadur. | August 23, 2019 at 8:35 pm

The stenting indicates that the tumor is in the head of the pancreas where the common bile duct courses through to join the pancreatic duct at the Ampulla of Vater. Since surgery is not being considered, the tumor may be considered inoperable. Tumor encasement of major vessels nearby is one reason for no operation. Or, she could be of such a health condition that surgery is too dangerous. The Whipple procedure is a BIG surgery for anyone.

The stenting may be proactive as better to get in when things are better than play catch up. Better to drain internally than percutaneous procedure, which I have performed as an adjunct to therapy. Hyperbiliremia is very uncomfortable… besides the patient looking like a pumpkin.

Radiation therapy has really progressed and can deliver maximum effect while limiting areas around the tumor from large doses. They note no spread… I imagine she is under monitoring at regular intervals and imaging found this… may be small enough to really be treated well.

If we all live long enough cancers will eventually hit everyone. She has enough cancers to raise the question of Lynch Syndrome. For now… another brush fire to put out. All the stops will be pulled out for her.

      Excellent information. Thank you.

alaskabob in reply to alaskabob. | August 24, 2019 at 1:51 am

hyperbilirubinemia…… Typed too fast. There are much longer words we use for some diseases but this will be the 50 cent word for today. And no pop quiz in the morning.

Reminds me of the Spanish keeping Franco “alive” in order to have orderly change of control. SCOTUS is the BIG prize in 2020…. And the Senate to give consent.

Subotai Bahadur in reply to alaskabob. | August 24, 2019 at 2:28 am

Thank you. I really did not expect to get an informed reply. Yours was probably better information than most people will receive.

      Subotai Bahadur

Reminds me of some discussions I have with my doctor. I mention something I read on the internet. He says “You shouldn’t believe everything you read on the internet.” I say “I found it on nih.gov”.
    He says “oh.”

The human element aside, this is a lunatic who admits to using international law in considering her decisions on the Supreme Court: a hideous breach of her oath of office.

Our Constitution will be served better with Ginsburg off any American court.

Justice Ginsburg Defends Using Foreign Courts as Persuasive Authority:

Three weeks of radiation alone would kill many people. And pancreatic cancer, along with glioblastoma, is about as bad as it gets. I have heard it called the cancer that gives cancer a bad name. So say what you will, but RBG is a very sick old lady.

Sanddog in reply to Same Same. | August 23, 2019 at 7:35 pm

She’s very fortunate that it was caught early the first time and she didn’t have an aggressive form. I have a friend who died several years ago, less than a month after his diagnosis. It took him fast and it was ugly.

I have a serious question, and I don’t care if people slam me for it. Would Ginsburg have lived as long as she has if she could only get the medical care a middle class family could afford under Obamacare?

I don’t begrudge the rich spend what they have to save the lives or the lives of their loved ones. But there must be a special level in Hell for those rich like Ginsburg who use their wealth and power to block others from doing the same. There were millions who had healthcare they were satisfied with who had it ripped away by Ginsburg and others who supported the clearly inferior government-run Obamacare. How many people will die early deaths after they lost the care they could afford because those like Ginsburg wanted to show off for their swanky friends about how “compassionate” they were? Why did she refuse to listen to the cries of the powerless and oppressed when she had the chance?

“Why did she refuse to listen to the cries of the powerless and oppressed when she had the chance?”

She’s a limousine liberal. They don’t hear anybody’s cries but their own.

Better question- Would RBG still be alive if she received the medical care given to the elderly in countries with free healthcare!? I’m thinking in particular The Netherlands, where euthanasia is quite popular. Or Great Britain, where The Liverpool Pathway is a prescribed treatment.

RNJD in reply to gospace. | August 23, 2019 at 10:09 pm

My husband and I had a dear friend from Scotland who died at age 60 because she was put on a months-long waiting list for a stent placement and died of a coronary before she made it to the top of the list. THAT, my friends, is the reality of national health insurance.

One of the side effects of private medicine is that rich people are replacing
Puerto Ricans as guinea pigs.

Medicine can be categorized as standard practice and experimental. Most standard stuff, like cataract surgery, gets done on an assembly line, or at urgent care centers.

Eastwood Ravine in reply to Petrushka. | August 24, 2019 at 8:26 pm

This. Not only does RBG have “executive-level” health care, she also has the deep pocketbooks of billionaires and multi-millionaires that would privately run medical studies with the intent to benefit very few, or even just one, person. That’s what’s keeping her alive where private citizens of ordinary, or even well, means would have succumbed to the illness long ago.

She must be doing OK. The wife and I have tickets for a public lecture by RBG on Sept. 3 and it hasn’t been cancelled. The venue has been changed several times because of demand. Now scheduled for an 18,000 seat arena.

    Enjoy the lecture.

My opinions are pretty much aligned with most Legal Insurrection followers. I considered going when I first heard the announcement just because, differences aside, it is always beneficial to hear someone express their views regardless of whether you agree with them. My daughter snagged a ticket (but we don’t talk about things [alright, politics and the Cult of Clinton] that got me banished from the once and happy family).

“differences aside, it is always beneficial to hear someone express their views regardless of whether you agree with them. ”
      *****
That’s a radical idea in today’s environment….It’s ironic that RBG was considered by the radical left as too moderate. Her major opposition at confirmation was Jesse Helms and NARAL, etc. If I had the magic wand to replace a SCOTUS justice, it would be Roberts…he has proven to be dangerous, RBG is predictable.

Think of how petty one must be to have so many cancers yet still won’t retire.
When politics is so important to your life you try to hang on for some nebulous change in administrations it’s time you took a long look at your mental state.
For someone who doesn’t believe in the Constitution enough to recommend it to other countries I can’t say I give a ship one way or another about her.

Egypt was and is a majority-Muslim country. The first thing they did after finally getting Mubarak to resign, is elect an Islamist regime, under Morsi. That they got rid of the Morsi regime peacefully, even in the face of terroristic threats by the regime, is amazing.

The US Constitution was formed presupposing an independent-minded, fairly well-educated, virtuous electorate. It would be very strong medicine for a nation with a substantial number of Islamists. We’ve seen the pattern, before: one man, one vote, one time.

      Valerie,

The US Constitution mandates a republic, and has a Bill of Rights. Unless the Constitution is amended, those rights are unalienable.

On the other hand, no governing document will survive a nation of people intent on voting themselves into fascism.

I disagree the Constitution was formed presupposing a well-educated, virtuous electorate. In fact, the Constitution was a document designed by geniuses to be run by idiots. No further proof is required than looking at half the members of Congress.

Those rights outlined in the Constitution are unalienable even if the Constitution is amended. If amended to strip any of those rights, then the proper response of The People is armed rebellion and the hanging of legislators.

Eastwood Ravine in reply to Valerie. | August 24, 2019 at 8:43 pm

The Constitution of the United States will probably be regarded as the greatest document for (self-) government in history, the Declaration of Independence right behind it. But it is designed for a society that holds to the precepts of Western Civilization, and meant to balance regional and individual differences among Men. It is was meant for one unique place in the world.

It can inform other countries developing governments, just like other countries history, ideas, and documents informed ours.

Liberia’s constitution is heavily patterned after the US Constitution, but Liberia’s not faring too well; Cato Institute’s 2018 Human Freedom Index:

        – Liberia — 6.48/10.00
        – US — 8.39/10.00.

Some conceptual governmental philosophy, drastically different outcome. Environmental difference?

She should spend the rest of her time with her children and grand children.

I’ve lost three close friends to pancreatic cancer and none of them were easy. I hope she retires and lives out her life as best she can.

Eastwood Ravine | August 24, 2019 at 8:59 pm

We all wish her the best. Ideally RBG should step down and acknowledge the political reality, which includes her party fighting for her seat on the Court. But the current political climate precludes her from doing so.

To step down and give Republicans that opportunity to replace her would be part of her legacy, which she and her fellow travelers can’t abide. For the Left it’s better politics that Republicans SEIZE, rather than RBG step down and GIVE, the opportunity to replace her on the Supreme Court.
