Is Calling Democrats ‘Clowns’ the New White Supremacist Slur?

Is Calling Democrats ‘Clowns’ the New White Supremacist Slur?

But I guess you can still call and depict non-leftists as clowns. Classic double standard.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=83x8dq-d2ZM

Everything is a white supremacist slur!

Dan McCready, the Democrat running for North Carolina’s 9th District House seat, suggested that his Republican opponent Dan Bishop used a white supremacist slur when his ad called Democrats clowns after he shared a Daily Kos article trying to push “an obscure alt-right meme.”

Clowns. I know clowns are awful, but come on. That’s why we call people we don’t like clowns. What about us who call 99% of the politicians clowns?

This snafu began in April when Bishop released an ad “calling national Democratic figures like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Nancy Pelosi, Elizabeth Warren, and Bernie Sanders ‘crazy liberal clowns.'”

Bishop expanded on that ad this week. He went more in-depth as he attacked “their policies, such as taxpayer-funded healthcare for illegal immigrants and ‘open borders.'”

McCready jumped all over the ads. He retweeted an article from Daily Kos written by David Nir, which publishes attempted to spin the video as Bishop’s response to the weekend shootings in Dayton and El Paso:

The clown line, Nir wrote, was “not just a particularly lame joke. It turns out there’s a disturbing genesis. Jared Holt, one of the tireless folks at Right Wing Watch, reported in April that white supremacists have begun adopting a version of the infamous far-right ‘Pepe the Frog’ meme decked out in clown garb that they call ‘Honkler,’ to symbolize ‘their exasperation over an imagined state of collapse in the Western hemisphere that they largely blame on immigrants and minority groups.'”

“Whether or not Bishop understands the significance of his ‘clown’ slurs, the propagation of this meme from the cesspools of the internet directly to the highest levels of Republican power shows just how in thrall to the far-right today’s GOP is,” he argued.

Alex Griswold at The Washington Free Beacon pointed out a few times non-Democrats called Republicans clowns. Joe Scarborough called Rep. John Ratcliffe a clown this week while “liberal songstress Barbra Streisand attacked Trump in a ‘Send in the Clowns’ parody.”

Are there more instances? You betcha!

In May, Democratic presidential frontrunner Joe Biden said he has “so many nicknames” for Trump, but he “can just start with clown.”

Actor Christian Bale described Trump as “sort of a clown by comparison” when it comes to former Vice President Dick Cheney.

Back in 2016, far-left filmmaker Michael Moore characterized Trump as a “wretched, ignorant, dangerous part-time clown and full time sociopath.”

Oh look! You can make your very own Trump clown meme!

Shall I continue? How about The New York Daily News on July 4, 2018, depicting Trump as a clown?

My bad. It’s only a white supremacist slur when non-leftists call Democrats a clown.

When I refer to Dems as “Clowns” I’m using referring to the ones that have a CIA background, of which there are a number. Just look at the midterm elections:

Clowns are funny. This crop of dem losers are scary … but I guess you could call them scary clowns. Certainly not funny clowns.

Clowns, yes. Straw clowns, at first, then they become progressively tedious.

Some former senior FBI guy reportedly said that Trump ordering the flags at half mast until 8/8 could be viewed as a dog whistle to Nazis. 8=H in the alphabet, so 8/8=H/H=Heil Hitler.

This deep state government needs a really serious enema.

      They need complete lobotomies.

Now they are telling us the notoriously straightforward Donald J. Trump sends out coded messages.

You’d think they would have learned from the Hillary campaign’s results not to pick a fight with a green, cartoon frog, but no: there is still someone dumb enough to do it.

I don’t expect citing the Daily Kos impresses many NC voters no matter how progressive they want to think themselves to be. NJ or OR, etc.? Probably more might be persuaded…

Maybe Bishop should just start referring to McCready as a pathetic ass wipe instead of a clown. Would that make him feel better?

I have too much respect for this site and its host to write down any of the thoughts I am having about how to address those making this complaint.

I have always thought that “clown” is a charitable term for professional Democrat “progressives” and is an unfortunate slur of clowns.

Diversitists and other bigots had long ago jumped the ass. We have been on a progressive slope ever since. #PrinciplesMatter #HateLovesAbortion

2smartforlibs | August 7, 2019 at 3:43 pm

Pointing out the obvious is neither racist or a slur.

OK, if “clown” isn’t cool any more, I guess “moron” will have to do.

It’s a dog whistle that’s so good that even dogs can’t hear it.

MarkS in reply to Albigensian. | August 7, 2019 at 4:05 pm

Yeah, I find it interesting that only Libs can hear right wing dog whistles

healthguyfsu in reply to MarkS. | August 7, 2019 at 4:45 pm

only the woke and white libs have been woke enough to hear these whistles

artichoke in reply to MarkS. | August 7, 2019 at 10:12 pm

It’s another of their scams to control language. They already own “gay” and “rainbow” which used to be perfectly good words. Now they want to take more words by calling them “dog whistles” because they’re effective.

No, I’m going the other way. “gay” means cheerful or happy. A “rainbow” occurs when water mist in the air causes refraction of sunlight into the well known pretty shape. And I’ll cheerfully use all their dog whistles, to see if they’re as good as dogs at least.

Milhouse in reply to artichoke. | August 7, 2019 at 11:11 pm

“Gay” has meant “sexually unconventional” since the late 19th century, and specifically “homosexual” since the 1930s.

artichoke in reply to Milhouse. | August 8, 2019 at 11:24 am

Maybe among some people, their own subculture. But I grew up in the 1960’s and later, and when I was a child “gay” didn’t have a sexual connotation I was aware of.

That subculture is certainly entitled to continue using words any way they like. But the broader culture should reclaim the word.

artichoke in reply to Milhouse. | August 8, 2019 at 11:27 am

As an added bonus, it would make childhood somewhat less soaked in sexual themes. There’s no reason for kids even to give a thought to these ideas.

Unless a goal is to pervert and confuse the kids, of course.

BKC in reply to Milhouse. | August 8, 2019 at 1:30 pm

So Fred and Wilma were “sexually unconventional”?! Who knew?

Neo in reply to Milhouse. | August 8, 2019 at 3:03 pm

Found and old newspaper in the attic from the 40’s

          “Come to Gay Atlantic City”

Barry in reply to Milhouse. | August 8, 2019 at 9:10 pm

While I cannot say when the homosexual population began using the term “gay” to describe their sexuality, it certainly was still in use among non-homosexuals as a term for happiness well into the 60’s.

I will be making a donation to Bishop’s campaign. We can’t allow dishonest morons, like McCready, to feed at the public trough. I know, I know,… that’s not fair to clowns like McCready who are incapable of making a living through productive labor. Or at least who have decided to eschew productive labor for the easy, ego-driven world or politics.

How’s this two-for-one: obama is a clown.

There must be internal polls showing the ad is effective.

And all this CLOWN is doing is enacting the Streisand Effect before our eyes.

I hadn’t even heard about this ad before.

Calling Democrats clowns is …

wait fir it …

wait some more …

“Clown” is out? Just call them trash.

rustyshamrock | August 7, 2019 at 5:48 pm

OK, if clown is out, just call Democrat’s what they really are… Demons!

BerettaTomcat | August 7, 2019 at 6:03 pm

Under cultural Marxism, any criticism of the progressive elite is, of course, racist.

Apparently Democrats have never been to a rodeo…rodeo clowns are brave and fearless.

artichoke in reply to RNJD. | August 7, 2019 at 10:09 pm

So maybe I shouldn’t use “clown”. But all the worse words are considered unsuitable for polite conversation. It’s a hard problem.

Top Trump quote from 2016.

Press: “Don’t you think calling them anchor babies is offensive to some people?”

Trump: “What do you call them?”

Press: “American born children of immigrants with unknown legal status.”

Trump: “I’m going to continue calling them anchor babies.”

It’s not the “press,” but the “democrat press.”

    BIG difference.

Some difference, not much in Venn Diagram terms. What are the members of the set “press” that are not also members of the set “Democrat press” or maybe “Leftist press”?

Unless you count amateurs like us, who now are the press too because we write and publish on the internet, that difference between those two sets is not very big.

Antifundamentalist | August 7, 2019 at 6:56 pm

Calling out all of the Leftist double standards is exhausting. Still do it whenever it comes up in conversation. Facts, apparently, don’t matter because “it’s not the same thing” dependent on party affiliation.

Summation: it is VERBOTEN to mock Democrats.

Guess I’m a “new white supremacist” and all you progs are fucking clowns and will always be clowns.

Please don’t even bother justifying my, or anyone’s use of “clown”. I’ll use it, because I think the far left wackos are clownish, their ideas are unreal and not even serious, and they want to control the world. They are azzholes. I will call them clowns, because it’s a more polite word.

They’re so stupid, so awful, so despicable and unworthy of any shred of respect. They want to force me to respect them, so their UN declares an agenda of “dignity” so we can’t make fun of anything or anyone.

Well it’s not law here yet, so I’ll call them clowns, and worse.

If you hear the whistle, you’re the clown…er, dog being whistled.

I suppose we should be more truthful in describing them for what they are,Un American @sswipes.

Does anyone remember that “white supremacy during the Civil war and during the Civil Rights movement was the hallmark of the Democratic party. We need to be reminding people of this fact every time they call conservatives white supremacists. The truth is the enemy of the Democrats.

Is there anything non-Democrats can say or do that doesn’t prompt the left to pounce and say, “We’re better than this” or “This isn’t who we are” or, especially, “racist.”

Omg halarious.

Honk Honk you leftist clowns.
