In the age of Trump, pretty much every late night entertainment show has come down with a severe case of Trump Derangement Syndrome. The lone exception is The Greg Gutfeld Show on FOX News, which airs at 10 pm on Saturday night. Greg’s approach is paying off big in ratings.
Gutfeld is beating Seth Meyers in ratings, he’s even rating better than the Daily Show.
I’m typically finishing up my Saturday night blogging here at Legal Insurrection when Gutfeld comes on, and I usually watch the show. Apparently, lots of other people do too.
Joe Concha reports at The Hill:
Fox News’s ‘Greg Gutfeld Show’ draws more viewers than weeknight hosts Seth Meyers, James CordenFox News host Greg Gutfeld’s weekend show is drawing more viewers than some late-night hosts on the broadcast networks, including popular faces Seth Meyers and James Corden, according to Nielsen Media Research.Gutfeld launched his 10 p.m. Saturday show, “The Greg Gutfeld Show,” in May 2015 and is currently averaging 1.7 million viewers. That places him above NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers” and CBS’s “Late Late Show with James Corden,” both averaging 1.2 million total viewers in their respective 12:30 a.m. time slots.Gutfeld’s numbers are noteworthy since Fridays and Saturdays are generally the least-watched nights of television.”The Five” co-host is also delivering more than double the number of viewers of TBS’s “Full Frontal with Samantha Bee” and Comedy Central’s “Daily Show” with Trevor Noah, which are averaging 835,000 and 732,000 viewers, respectively.
The Gutfeld show is taped on Friday and broadcast on Saturday night, but the live audience makes you forget it’s not a live show. His sidekicks Kat Timpf and Tyrus are great, and he always has interesting guests as well.
Mark Joyella of Forbes has more on Gutfeld’s success:
Is Fox News Channel’s Greg Gutfeld The Next King Of Late Night TV?Fox News dominates the prime-time cable news ratings, but now the network has a hit in late night. Fox’s Greg Gutfeld, whose The Greg Gutfeld Show airs Saturday nights at 10 p.m., finished May with a total audience of 1.8 million viewers—drawing bigger ratings than late night’s biggest broadcast stars, including ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel, NBC’s Seth Meyers and CBS’ James Corden. The May ratings performance makes Gutfeld’s show the third most-watched show in all of late-night television, ahead of Jimmy Kimmel Live (1.7 million), CBS’s Late, Late Show (1.2 million) and ABC’s Nightline (1.1 million).“Our show’s success is based on three key ingredients: intelligence, wit, and honesty,” Gutfeld told me Wednesday. “That last part is key. Viewers become fans when you buck the shared assumptions of the media about the world and level with your audience in real terms. I think that’s been the key variable in the success of Fox News Channel and The Greg Gutfeld Show too. Also, I am incredibly handsome.”
If you’re looking for something to watch tonight, give the Greg Gutfeld show a chance, you won’t be disappointed.
