Democrats Once Again Trot Out Yale Psychiatrist to Declare Trump Mentally Unfit

“The position is controversial because psychiatric associations urge members never to diagnose patients they haven’t personally evaluated, saying it undermines the scientific rigor of the profession.”

In January of 2018, Democrats met with Yale psychiatrist Bandy Lee to discuss President Donald Trump’s mental state. Lee advocated the idea of performing a psychiatric evaluation on Trump, even by force if necessary.

Now they are revisiting this issue, and once again, Bandy Lee is the point person.

Kimberly Leonard reports at the Washington Examiner:

Democrats plan Capitol Hill event to put Trump’s mental health under fire

Democrats are planning to host a Capitol Hill event featuring psychiatrists who will warn that President Trump is unfit for office based on his mental health.

The event will be led by Dr. Bandy Lee, a Yale School of Medicine psychiatrist and editor of The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump, a book that argues psychiatrists have a responsibility to warn the public when a president is dangerous. The position is controversial because psychiatric associations urge members never to diagnose patients they haven’t personally evaluated, saying it undermines the scientific rigor of the profession.

But Lee and others who agree with her stance say that their description of the president’s behavior, of his showing mental instability and dangerousness, shouldn’t be interpreted as issuing a diagnosis.

“The president’s condition has been visibly deteriorating to the point where there’s a lot of talk right now about his mental state beyond mental health professionals,” Lee said. “It no longer takes a mental health professional to recognize the seriousness of the current presidency.”

Democrats should ask Dr. Lee if she can assist them with their Trump Derangement Syndrome.

Nathaniel Weixel of The Hill reports that one of the Democrats behind this event is Rep. John Yarmuth (D-KY), a frequent critic of Trump:

House Democrats plan event to scrutinize Trump’s mental health

House Democrats plan to hold an event intended to highlight what they say is President Trump’s deteriorating mental health.

House Budget Committee Chairman John Yarmuth (D-Ky.) said he and Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) will host Dr. Bandy Lee, a Yale School of Medicine psychiatrist who edited the best-selling book “The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump: Psychiatrists and Mental Health Experts Assess a President.”…

Yarmuth said he anticipates the event, which was first reported by the Washington Examiner, will happen sometime in July.

Yarmuth said he thinks it’s important that members of Congress and the public understand the position of Lee and the other psychologists in the book, which argues that Trump’s mental health has deteriorated to the point where it poses a threat to the country.

The position is controversial, because none of the psychiatrists have treated the president and the American Psychiatric Association (APA) prohibits members from speculating about the mental state of public figures.

“Even though none of them had actually treated Trump, they in their practices, and their experience, they recognize certain patterns of behavior, and when it’s their professional responsibility to alert people who may be endangered by someone’s behavior,” Yarmuth said. “And in this case it’s the American people.”

Russia didn’t work out, so they’re going back to this. They’re just going from one thing to another to quiet the voices in their heads.

The brilliant A.F. Branco addressed this in a 2018 cartoon.

This is nothing more than a political stunt, but the media will gleefully report on it.

In other words, the psychiatric profession is a sham, and Yale is a sham school.

Now you know why Economics degrees are offered by the same liberal arts, social sciences colleges…….

Why do they keep leaving the R out
    of that Quack’s given name?

Snark snark (for the humor impaired)

This is beyond desperate.

Their desperation has manifested itself in a condition that Ms Lee would do well to study, Trump Derangement Syndrome

It is hard to study TDS while in the throws of it.

This woman, representing the Yale School of Medicine, is making a diagnosis. That means it is by legal definition Protected Medical Information – PMI.

According to HIPAA it is a violation to release PMI.

      Yale should be fined.

Wouldn’t this be on the level of malpractice?

Did she ever regain a medical license? Last I recall is that her license had lapsed. Ah well, she don’t need no stinking license to practice psychiatry just like Fauxcahontas does not need a license to pretend to be a Native American lawyer.

Cavalier, fecklessness and gross negligence have become hallmarks of privileged academia.

Can they be any dumber than this one…

some of the dems and their press sycophants were talking yesterday about this letting them use the 25th amendment process, an amendment which clearly none of them have ever read. As we have gone over on this blog several times, it is actually far easier to Impeach than it is to use the 25th amendment to remove a President. They appear not to even realize that the Vice President has got to spearhead any 25th Amendment process, and that without him on board, it’s over before it starts.

    Unfortunately, yes.

Never, and I repeat, NEVER, ask that question.
They take it as a challenge.

“The position is controversial because psychiatric associations urge members never to diagnose patients they haven’t personally evaluated, saying it undermines the scientific rigor of the profession.”

Priorities, people! Some things are more important than the good name of an entire profession.

President Trump does not believe in Man Made Climate Change, Socialism, Leading From Behind, Making, America A Third World Country or that Islam Is Benign.

Obviously, he’s a Very Stable Genius.

How do you :undermine the scientific rigor” of voodoo?

caseoftheblues | June 7, 2019 at 8:42 am

Is this woman isn’t officially reprimanded and censured the governing body of psychiatry will have forever and officially lowered their already low standards.

I just finished reading “Mind Fixers: Psychiatry’s Troubled Search for the Biology of Mental Illness” by Anne Harrington.

I had low expectations here, as the title sounds like a Scientologist’s rant, or at least something written by a troubled crank.

Bu, I was pleasantly surprised as it’s actually quite good, providing an overview of intellectual fashions and factions throughout the history of the profession, and taking the profession to task for its unfortunate tendency to promise more than the underlying science can support.

It’s well worth a read.

(And, yes, one would think the APA would do a little more to denounce political stunts like this which all too obviously damage the profession’s credibility and prestige.)

    gustafus21 in reply to Albigensian. | June 7, 2019 at 5:53 pm

but the APA is bursting with “stunts” like this.. they are a political rather than medical profession.

All gay all the time…. and also a narrow [self evident ethnicity]

    present company excluded

artichoke in reply to Albigensian. | June 9, 2019 at 10:18 am

As I recall they did denounce the last one, but it took at least a few weeks. Give them a little time. But they ought to denounce it again, definitely.

A privileged idiot fears Trump = an endorsement for Trump!

These fools actually think they have some credibility outside of their ruling class club.

Yale appears to be nothing more than a high priced a feeder for the deep state.

Psycho-delic.

Her fortune cookie reads “Ah so, ah so, …. you ass ho”.

Captain , Did I ever tell you i could determine a man’s profession just by looking at him.
Look at this woman , the bandy name the beady eyes. this woman is a mule skinner . Put her to work.

Ghost Rider | June 7, 2019 at 4:04 pm

Ms. Lee has a rather deranged look in her eyes. Has her sanity been evaluated recently? I’m sure she passed the ideological test to teach in an Ivy League school.

My best friend is/was a psychiatrist – who ended up retiring early because of the increased activism of the deviate contingent within the APA …

The APA distorted numbers on homosexual pedophilia because they counted married homosexuals as “straight” – by virtue of their sham marriages to females.

My friend says the entire “industry” is plagued by homosexual men and women – of a “specific” 2% ethnicity – who alter, distort and manufacture the results they need for a given outcome.

As long as Mitch keeps ramping up the procession of judgeships and Trump departmental nominees let the left pretend to understand sanity.
We can always put them back into the asylums later.

When a public figure is libeled it’s almost impossible fo them to win a lawsuit. However, in this case the slanderer is hiding behind psychiatry and violating the the ethics and requirements of his profession. This should make them vulnerable to slander and malpractice lawsuits. But I’m not an attorney.

artichoke in reply to ConradCA. | June 9, 2019 at 10:06 am

Her trick is that it’s not a diagnosis, and she’s not even a psychiatrist in the legal meaning of the word. She does not have a license to practice medicine, even though she has a medical degree, completed the usual psychiatric residency, and has a faculty job at Yale School of Medicine.

judgeroybean | June 8, 2019 at 12:39 pm

If she? didn’t pick up on any of Hillary’s glaring problems, she’s not qualified to comment.

canoworms27 | June 8, 2019 at 1:50 pm

I have a friend who has been in therapy for 15 years…let that sink in. Is it all about the money, or is the therapist incompetent?

    Milhouse in reply to canoworms27. | June 11, 2019 at 5:49 pm

Neither one. You wouldn’t offer this false choice if your friend had a chronic physical condition that has required treatment for more than 15 years. Why would you think psychological conditions are any different?

We should use Dems’ behavior as evidence they are psychotic and unstable, and should be put in padded rooms.

I believe the reason Dr. Bandy Lee is not afraid of losing her license to practice for this stunt, is that she is not licensed to practice.

Apparently it’s not that uncommon for med school faculty not to be board-certified to practice their medical specialties.

But Yale would help its credibility a lot by getting rid of this clown. Or hurt that credibility if they don’t.

Milhouse in reply to artichoke. | June 11, 2019 at 5:50 pm

That is just not true, and has never been true. You have fallen for #fakenews. Dr Lee was and is licensed in NY.
