Rep. Al Green: “I Will Continue to Seek” President Trump’s Impeachment

Rep. Al Green (D-TX) has repeatedly made clear that there is nothing special counsel Robert Mueller could say that would prevent him from pursuing his goal of impeaching President Trump. He said it on the floor of the U.S. House early last month, and he reiterated that point Sunday in a tweet.

The reason why? Green says Trump’s alleged bigotry makes him unfit to serve in public office:

#MuellersReport did NOT investigate bigotry emanating from the Presidency harming our country. The findings do NOT negate the President’s bigotry. As long as bigotry influences the President’s policies, I will continue to seek his impeachment. #ImpeachmentIsNotDead

The Hill detailed the rationale behind Green’s persistent calls for impeaching the president:

Green’s proposed articles of impeachment in the last Congress were a sweeping condemnation of the president’s character, arguing that Trump is “unfit to defend the ideals that have made America great.” As evidence, the articles cited Trump’s ban on immigrants from predominantly Muslim countries, his prohibition on transgender people serving in the military and his equivocal response to the deadly white supremacist marches in Charlottesville, Va., in 2017, among a long list of other episodes.Green has not introduced those articles this year but has said he intends to do so. He also has vowed to force the impeachment articles to the House floor for a vote, as he did twice in the last Congress. The second vote, in early 2018, attracted the support of more than 60 Democrats.

His reaction was as predictable as the sunrise and sunset. Democrats like Green and others who are in denial over Mueller’s findings have made clear since Trump was elected that they would find a way to throw him out of office, whether via forced resignation, impeachment, or arrest.

Their biggest issue with Trump is not their debunked belief that he colluded with Russia in 2016. It has nothing to do with the numerous character flaws they ascribe to him on a daily basis. Their biggest issue with him is quite simple:

Trump’s a Republican, and one who unexpectedly beat the woman Democrats believed should have been next in line for the presidency.

Pollsters had Hillary winning it in a landslide. But it didn’t happen. Trump won handily, and his election was a thorough embarrassment not just for her, but for the entire Democratic party who thought they had 2016 in the bag.

Because of this, Democrats and their mainstream media allies have spent every waking moment since Trump’s election pouncing and seizing on anything they think would help them in their mission to discredit or destroy the Trump presidency.

And they’re going to keep on doing it. As Prof. Jacobson pointed out last night, this attempted coup by Democrats (and their media allies) is far from over:

But don’t think it’s going to stop. Already the tactics and goal posts are shifting. Now it’s not Russia collusion that’s paramount, it’s obstruction of justice in the form of Trump allegedly obstructing the Mueller investigation. But Mueller never reached the conclusion that an obstruction crime was committed, and a criminal obstruction charge was rejected as unjustified not only by AG William Barr but also by Deputy AG Rod Rosenstein. Remember, it was Rosenstein who was considered so vital by Democrats to preserve the integrity of the Mueller investigation.Democrats already are promising more investigations. The goal is to continue the slow-motion coup.

They’ll do it with the aid and support of the mainstream media, who have stood shoulder to shoulder with them since day one. But as their frenzied reporting on unsubstantiated allegations continues in the coming months, remember this:

Indeed.
