Introducing the Legal Insurrection Foundation

Introducing the Legal Insurrection Foundation

I hope you will join us on this journey into Legal Insurrection 3.0. We cannot do it without you.

Today marks the launch of the Legal Insurrection Foundation, an IRS-approved 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization. Consider this a soft opening. We’ll have a party, and maybe some fireworks and music, in April. For now, we’re trying to make sure all systems are running smoothly.

Donations are tax deductible to the full extent the law allows. You can DONATE HERE.

The Foundation is a research, investigative, and educational project that has been years in the making for me. I first considered forming such an entity in 2014, after the fights involving the American Studies Association adoption of the anti-Israel academic boycott. I’ve always been most proud of our original research, reporting, and investigation, but I was frustrated that our lack of resources did not allow us to do as much as we wanted in that and subsequent efforts.

Faced with the somewhat daunting task of putting it all together, my own tendency towards procrastination, and then family health issues, things got delayed. By years.

We finally filed in September 2017, and received IRS approval in March 2018, though I didn’t find out about it until months later because we didn’t receive the IRS approval letter at that time. Even with that IRS approval in hand, it was uncertain whether the vision ever would become reality. Planning remained on hold through the summer and fall. Finally, late last year, with improvements in my wife’s health, we decided to go for it.

The legal, regulatory, accounting and operational requirements have been more daunting and expensive than I anticipated. Kemberlee helped me with some of these logistics. I made a substantial personal donation to the Foundation to get us started, but moving forward we will have to rely on reader donations and other support.

The goal of the Foundation is to take our research, investigative, and educational efforts to a new and more meaningful level. A major, but not exclusive, focus will be on the intersectional left, the crossover of anti-capitalism and anti-Zionism, which are inextricably linked in their minds and which are the driving forces behind current attacks on individual liberty, economic freedom, and freedom of speech. It’s an area that I have focused on for years, long before most others, perhaps because it started on campuses.

We don’t fit neatly into an issue box, which may make it harder for strangers to understand the legal insurrection. But those who know us know our 10-year track record of finding and seizing (aka *pouncing*) on issues of importance and not letting go.

Someone once described us as “disrupters,” a characterization I hadn’t thought of before that. It is this spirit of disruption and impact that will drive the Foundation. We will not be a passive research entity, issuing reports no one reads, but an entity that uses research, investigation, and education to create an impact on the public discourse. We are in the process of putting together a team to make this happen, a process that itself could take several months, and look forward to working with other like-minded people and entities.

Commencing March 1, 2019, the Legal Insurrection website became a platform for the Foundation. You will not notice much of a change here, though we will use the website to leverage the Foundation’s work moving forward.

If you support the legal insurrection, then I hope you will donate. The DONATION PAGE allows payment by credit card or PayPal and includes directions on how to pay by check, if that is your preference.

I hope you will join us on this journey into Legal Insurrection 3.0. We cannot do it without you.

However sometimes keeping “connections” gives you leverage.

Thousands of religious organizations are listed on PayPal for donations.

Would be something if they all banded together to “persuade” PayPal of better customer treatment…………

I’m in, Professor!
Disrupterr,,,,,apt! God bless you in all the work you do.

Your approval letter must have been sent to Lois Lerner by mistake.

notamemberofanyorganizedpolicital in reply to snopercod. | March 4, 2019 at 3:30 pm

Nah, because if it had, ol’ Lois would have dropped from a massive coronary…… and be like “Little Ruthie” of the late Supremes……

“Finally, late last year, with improvements in my wife’s health, we decided to go for it.”

That’s one happy sentence, right there.

I really do see the need for this..

Keep up the good fight…

Congrats Professor! Here’s to many more years of great work.

Great, this is much needed! Years ago, Glenn Beck explained how the far Left and Islamists would join forces to take down the West. He predicted the masks would drop. After being laughed at by many, he has proven to have been correct.

OldNuc in reply to jmlsmb. | March 4, 2019 at 10:52 am

A quick check of history will show in both words and living black and white photographs that Islam and National Socialism have been bed partners for a long time. Beck only pointed out the obvious. There is no significant difference between the various blends of Socialism.

Milhouse in reply to OldNuc. | March 4, 2019 at 11:39 am

Actually there are very significant differences between the various sects of socialism, which is why they spend most of their time fighting each other. The alliance between the National Socialists and the Moslem Brotherhood was based largely on the non-socialist aspects of Hitler’s ideology. Similarly, the emerging alliance between the modern left and the Islamists is largely based on the former’s adoption of identity politics, which is contrary to mainstream socialism.

maxmillion in reply to Milhouse. | March 7, 2019 at 12:28 am

Any “alliance” between the Islamics and socialists is one of convenience and borne out a perceived common enemy (i.e., us), and not out of any shared ideology. In fact, they are more natural enemies to each other than either are with us.

puhiawa in reply to Milhouse. | March 7, 2019 at 6:20 pm

Correct. National Socialism is confined to race or country. Global Socialism, or Communism, is a world concept. The Red Chinese ultimately decided they were National Socialist, and the schism with the USSR began.

Close The Fed | March 4, 2019 at 11:28 am

Impressive, Professor. You keep improving and getting larger. Great job.

Another Voice | March 4, 2019 at 12:37 pm

Congratulations!!
A mountain to climb by your description of the road you have traveled to get to this place in time. Much of what you shared is so in keeping with the posting of your tribute to Andrew Breitbart on the anniversary of his deaf. You are and what you have accomplished is exactly what he was advocating for..Amen to you.

Congrats, I’ll set up a donation in next couple weeks.

DouglasJBender | March 4, 2019 at 1:23 pm

Great news.

I have signed up for a continuing donation. What we need is a continually updated list of names, addresses, affiliations of the membership of such groups as Jews for Peace. Boycott should be two edged sword

While PayPal may be convenient, its politics lean to the far left. It has a history of discrimination against conservatives such as Alex Jones, conservative Christian groups and groups that are Second Amendment supporters. It cancelled its planned North Carolina expansion because of its religious freedom law. When I give, it is directly to the organization I support with no middlemen.

Awesome!! Donated!!!!!!! Good luck!!

Yes! I wholeheartedly support this. If we weren’t stretched on a retirement budget (my husband is going to start driving for Uber in April) it would definitely be more.

Thank you for all you’ve done and all you continue to do…and blessings to your wife for health and happiness yet to come.

DouglasJBender | March 5, 2019 at 12:26 am

Out of curiosity, will this Foundation bear any likeness to Isaac Asimov’s?

Congratulations! We do need more in depth reporting of many issues. Would the positions be at Cornell or in Rhode Island, btw?

LukeHandCool | March 7, 2019 at 8:32 pm

Hope you can start making some original content videos.

Either something along the order of the Prager U. videos, or sit down discussions with a guest over an hour or so to drill down deep into issues. Like Dave Rubin is doing. Nothing attracts and engages people like video.

Some hidden camera, undercover stuff a la James O’Keefe would be cool, too.

SpaceInvader | March 7, 2019 at 10:01 pm

If you changed the order of the comments so the newest ones are on top you would get a lot more comments. More comments would equal more traffic.

Hey, I am a US citizen but I live in Sweden and my banking is in Sweden and the ‘donate’ page requires a US address. Please make the changes on the ‘donate’ page so I can give you what I can spare. -Paul

I’m in.

Congrats from Seattle. Yes, LI has followers in the liberal Pacific Northwest. LI is the first opinion journal that I turn to in the morning to find out what’s happening. I’ve been a steady financial contributor to the “old” LI and will now make a donation to the new “LI.” Cheers and Mazel Tov!

Sometimes I agree with you and other times I don’t. Regardless, I expect you to use correct and nonpartisan langauge.

So when you use “Democrat” as an adjective, as in Democrat Party, instead of Democratic, you are both incorrect and partisan (unless you are a Republican’t)

🙂
