Seven years ago George Zimmerman shot Trayvon Martin in lawful self-defense, as Martin beat Zimmerman to a bloody pulp Mixed Martial Arts style. Martin died of a single shot.
The eyewitness and forensic evidence introduced at trial corroborated Zimmerman’s account of being sucker punched in the nose, something Martin had bragged in text messages, kept from the jury, was his preferred method of starting fights. An eyewitness witnessed the beating, and the forensics were completely consistent with Zimmerman’s account.
Zimmerman did not have to rely on the Stand Your Ground law because SYG only addresses the duty to retreat, something Zimmerman could not do because he was pinned to the ground on his back with his head being smashed.
The media propaganda at the time was a textbook case of pushing a narrative of racism out of thin air — NBC actually doctored audio of the 911 call to make it appear — falsely — that Zimmerman viewed Martin as suspicious because he was black.
The narrative of racism stuck, and was the spark that eventually led to the Black Lives Matter movement (along with the equally false racism narrative of the Michael Brown shooting). Indeed, the media and activist manipulation of the Michael Brown shooting followed the pattern in the Martin case.
Anyone who actually watched the Zimmerman trial and heard the evidence understood that the media and activist narrative was false. Andrew Branca covered the trial live for us, and we became the go-to website for facts about the case.
