Ocasio-Cortez rules: Dems built her up, now she’s battling Dem attempts to control her

She tweets: “None of you understand. I’m not locked up in here with YOU. You’re locked up in here with ME.”

The House Democrats have more on their plate than fighting against President Donald Trump and his wall: Democratic Socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez or AOC as she’s known by her posse.

Ever since Ocasio-Cortez won her primary against a veteran congressman the light has shone brightly on her. This has left a lot of veteran Democrats to grow weary of her.

In an exit interview, former Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) warned the Democrats against taking Ocasio-Cortez’s rhetoric to heart:

Democrats, she suggested, should be cautious about the rise of politicians like the 29-year-old Ocasio-Cortez, who vanquished a Democratic leader, Joe Crowley, in her primary, and have vowed sweeping changes in policy.

“I don’t know her,” McCaskill said when asked if she’d consider Ocasio-Cortez a “crazy Democrat” like the ones she decried on the campaign trail. “I’m a little confused why she’s the thing. But it’s a good example of what I’m talking about, a bright shiny new object, came out of nowhere and surprised people when she beat a very experienced congressman.”

McCaskill added, “And so she’s now talked about a lot. I’m not sure what she’s done yet to generate that kind of enthusiasm, but I wish her well. I hope she hangs the moon.

“But I hope she also realizes that the parts of the country that are rejecting the Democratic Party, like a whole lot of white working class voters, need to hear about how their work is going to be respected, and the dignity of their jobs, and how we can really stick to issues that we can actually accomplish something on.”

And she concluded: “The rhetoric is cheap. Getting results is a lot harder.”

Former Sen. Joe Lieberman said that Ocasio-Cortez isn’t the future of the party and this is how she responded:

Then Politico dropped a report Friday morning about how the Democrats have started attempts to bring her into the fold and put an end to her anti-establishment tirades.

After I converted from socialist to leftist in 2009, I tried to tell my new friends on my new side that the Democrats and leftists largely succeeded because they show a united front and take care of disagreements behind closed doors. Any fights that emerged to the public was done in a polite manner as well.

But then came 2016 when email dumps showed the DNC actively working against Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) in favor of failed Democrat presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. I knew then that all bets are off.

Enter Ocasio-Cortez. She has the media in the palm of her hand and over 2 million followers on Twitter. Democrats have shown disappointment that she’s spent a lot of her time bashing those within her own party instead of the Republicans.

Politico found that most incumbent Democrats are “annoyed by Ocasio-Cortez’s threat to back primary opponents against members of their ranks she deems too moderate.”

Ocasio-Cortez recently criticized a piece in Politico about her supposedly “backing a primary opponent against rising star Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.), who many believe could become the first black speaker.” Jeffries recently became the chairman of the Democrat Caucus.

Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-MO) told Politico that Ocasio-Cortez needs to understand the outstanding rule: “Don’t attack your own people.” He also said:

“The chances that the Democratic caucus will stand by and watch its chair get attack and people piling on him — by Democrats! — is so obscene that I think you’ll find one of the strongest reactions that could possibly be anticipated.”

This is where Rep. Nydia Velázquez (D-NY) comes in. She has taken Ocasio-Cortex aside to discuss what life is like in DC:

In private conversations with Ocasio-Cortez over the past few months, Velázquez counseled Ocasio-Cortez against targeting her Democratic colleagues in future elections. The two had a “long, long conversation” about the dynamics of Congress and Washington, and how there shouldn’t be a “litmus test” for every district, Velázquez said in a recent interview.

After she defeated Democratic incumbent Joe Crowley in shocking fashion last year, Ocasio-Cortez supported primary challengers to Democratic Reps. Stephanie Murphy of Florida, William Lacy Clay of Missouri and Mike Capuano of Massachusetts.

Only Capuano lost. But Velázquez told Ocasio-Cortez she should think twice in the future before backing primaries against her colleagues. Murphy, the first Vietnamese woman elected to Congress, represents a swing district and could lose her seat if she’s forced to move left in a primary, Velázquez said during the talk.

“Washington is a political animal where a lot of the work that you want to accomplish depends on relationships within the Democratic Caucus,” said Velázquez, who described herself as a “bridge” between Ocasio-Cortez and the caucus. “The honeymoon between the voters that you represent and yourself could be a short one. People want to see results.”

Here’s the other thing Ocasio-Cortez needs to remember when it comes to races. Each person represents a district and they are there for the people of that district. It doesn’t matter how you personally feel. You are there to represent and vote how those in your district feel.

The Democrats also hate how Ocasio-Cortez has “railed against their new set of House rules on Twitter the first week of the new Congress.” Others felt disgusted over “a grassroots movement to try to win her a top committee post they feel she doesn’t deserve.” Politico continued:

They point to her first week in Congress: Ocasio-Cortez aggravated Democratic leaders and even some fellow progressives when she tweeted that she’d oppose the Democratic rules package, arguing it would stymie liberal priorities like “Medicare for all.”

House Democrats were also unhappy when she made a play for a seat on the powerful Ways and Means Committee. Lawmakers suspected Ocasio-Cortez was behind a massive online campaign pressing Pelosi to appoint her to the panel, though her office said she was not.

Critics inside the caucus felt she didn’t deserve it, given her lack of professional experience on tax issues and her status as a freshman.

“It totally pissed off everyone,” said one senior House Democratic lawmaker of the campaign. “You don’t get picked for committees by who your grass-roots [supporters] are.”

One anonymous House Democrat that agrees with Ocasio-Cortez’s ideology told Politico that she needs to decide if she wants “to be an effective legislator or just continue being a Twitter star.”

The efforts to bring her in may be working as her spokesman Corbin Trent said, “[T]here has been a change in focus – though not a change in ideology.”

Of course Ocasio-Cortez laughed off all of this with a quote from the character Rorschach from Alan Moore’s Watchmen.

That is awesome. I hope she keeps giving the Democrats trouble.

When this girl surfaced, I could not believe that the Dems would take her serious. But now I think she is the best thing in a long time. She is immature, stupid and basically a child and she is going to give the Dem leaders hell. Great theater.

I still think she pales in comparison to Nutty Nancy Pelosi. CNN probably has three people assigned to killing the stupid things Nutty Nancy says.

“She is immature, stupid and basically a child”

And has a degree in economics from Boston University whose reputation is rightly soiled.

juliathemechanic in reply to fscarn. | January 12, 2019 at 12:02 am

Actually, she doesn’t have a degree in Economics. That was another lie. She really has a degree in International Relation from Boston University.

To not understand Cortez is to not understand the people who put her in office. (Including michelle obama.)

Yes, she is immature. Yes, she is ignorant. Yes, she is arrogant. Yes, she is angry. But worst, she is deranged in her beliefs.

In other words, she represents millions (literally) of angry, deranged young people churned-out by leftist-run high schools and colleges.

These people have no inhibitions of butting into and attempting to poison your business, your life and your personal relationships.

No amount of rational discussion will change the mindset of these people – only brute force of our will.

The Cortez army is a dangerous army of deranged people bent on destroying everything before them.

The left’s goal is to create America into another Weimar Replublic, from whose ashes they can rise and conquer.

As George Santayana famously said: “Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it.”

This girl’s IDEAS and the indulgence she is getting from the democrat media need to be sat on, and sat on with an ass on an order of michelle obama’s.

Don’t give an inch. Starve the young psychos into reality.

She is the communist Annette Funichello. All that’s missing is a beach movie.

“After I converted from socialist to leftist in 2009…”
You were once a socialist, Mary?

As my late mother used to say: “Be careful what you wish for.” Imagine the attacks she would be facing from the media if she was promoting hair-brained conservative ideas.

Release the Kraken.

In theaters now, see Joe Lieberman as Walt Kowalski give the facts of life to an upstart. Gran Torino, a movie that Democrats still won’t understand.

Let her keep talking. The Dems need some internal dissent right about now. Let them feast on each other.

Modern version of the When a Stranger Calls (1979) movie:
“We’ve traced the Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez tweets and they’re coming from inside your house!

The fastest way to sink liberalism is with each new generation of ‘liberals’. Conservatives and conservatism can’t do it. The older generation of liberals of the 1950s and 1960s gave way to more ‘liberalism’ of the counter culture type. This type of liberal had no intention of waiting for their turn at power. Fast forward to the last ten years and the CC liberals have spawned these new SJW type intolerant ‘liberals’. Now these newbies are turning on their teachers and parents and other older adults.

After this current generation of AOCs, there will be still more radical liberals who will want it all now. This is a proper mix for a good old “Night of the Long Knives” at some point.

Cortez is right: lieberman and the old guard are as despised by the young left as young (and many old) conservative despise the likes of Mcconnell, ryan and boehner.

The difference is, young conservatives support our way of life. The young left is not trying to redeem anything – they are bent on destruction of our way of life.

Thank goodness Cortez is so blantantly ignorant, and so arrogant about it. She is a walking billboard in support of Americans trying to warn the rest of us about the real dangers of leftist indoctrination in our schools.

Leftism is a potent acid that exists to destroy. No vessel is strong enough to contain it, no amount of power is sufficient for it to stop destroying. If all opposition could be defeated it wouldn’t matter. Leftism turns inward and continues to destroy. Nihilism come to life and death by its own hands.

He!!! I’m 63 and I hate the old guard of both parties! All they care about is getting elected. They will tell you what you want to hear and then NOT do it once they sucker you into voting for them.

I can imagine the conversation between AOC and Velazquez. The experienced “legislator” (read: scummy politician) educates the newcomer that the newcomer’s job is to learn the ropes of “legislating”, i.e., saying all the right words to get elected, but never DO anything that you might get held accountable for.

In some ways, I see AOC as a Dem version of PDT. She is definitely a disruptor like PDT and won’t take no for an answer, also like PDT. The big difference is that she really is an idiot unlike our President.

Frankly, Rorschach has a much more engaging personality. And isn’t nearly so clueless.

Effective legislator? As a rookie Congresswoman slash bottom feeder? She’s better off as a Twitter star. Apparently Pelosi’s bootprint came off her face rather quickly. If she’s not going to be on any committee of importance, why, exactly, should she learn her place and behave? Because people fifty years her senior desire it?

She has a veet acute grasp of the new demographic s concept of free.

The situation for the Democrats is dire, DIRE! I tell you!

I know this because the concern trolls are all out at Reddit on The_Donald, telling the giddy kiddies that have been posting funny memes (themed cartoons) about Occasional Cortex to cut it out, on the theory that we need to “starve her of attention.”

I’m enjoying the cartoons, and I think a good joke is a deadly weapon against a bad idea.

She does have one point: Like Bernie, she says that the older Democrats have not taken care of the young folk. College educations are overpriced, and starting family seems prohibitively expensive. Like Bernie, her solutions will have perverse results. Trump has better policies. Let the meme cannons roar.

One imagines that if Joe Lieberman had said, “You can’t rein in Latinas,” he’d be in the stocks by now.

But Socialism has had such great success: Think of the National Socialists under Hitler in Germany. The Soviet Socialist Republics under Stalin. North Korea under Kim. Nicaragua under Ortega. Venezuela under Chavez. I think AOC envisions turning the USA into another socialist Venezuela, possibly with herself as our Chavez.

Socialism and dictators go hand-in-hand. To be an effective dictator, you have to control business and industry, and socialism is the tool you use. All the powerful 20th and 21st century dictators have used socialism or something resembling it to maintain power over the people.

Those who were ignoring the #NeverHillary movement during the 2016 primary have no idea that AOC is simply the first wave of New Democrats — born of flipped coins, Superdelegates, and controlled conventions.

The problem with AOC, is that she is incredibly naive. She has NO idea who she is dealing with. If she becomes a threat to the Dems, she could well end up in jail or even DRT.

She wouldn’t be the last young brunette to make a one-way trip to Rock Creek Park.

    artichoke in reply to Mac45. | January 12, 2019 at 1:50 am

She’s also an ass, and I don’t mean that as a sexual compliment. Most normal people would never behave that way.

If hillary clinton were still in power, cortez would be dead.

Sherlock Sessions should never be forgotten as the man who single-handedly prevented the greatest traitor in United States history from being prosecuted.

“After I converted from socialist to leftist in 2009…”

My question is what’s the difference? I think I know but want her opinion

They’ll just keep her calm long enough to put a winning primary challenger in place in her district. Maybe they can get Crowley his seat back by going negative on Occasional-Cortex.

They must hate her guts now and have no confidence in her. Her career is permanently ruined, none of them would have ever thought of behaving like that, and it’s just a matter of easing her out and forgetting she ever existed.

You don’t come back from what she’s done. Anyone who’s worked in an organization more complex than, well, a beer bar knows that.

Thats what many germans said about hitler, the former corporal.

Sandy Sixteen’s head isnt swelled in a vacuum: she has a lot of support.

She probably has the suport of that psycho arizona elected senator.

Occasional-Cortex is an infantile and pathological narcissist. But — do not underestimate her. The sainted Obama proved how politically effective transparent and malignant narcissism, self-reverence and vanity can be, in a Dumb-o-crat apparatchik who has a messianic view of their alleged greatness, infallibility and sagacity.

Gifted the same, constant media veneration, mythologizing, hagiography and kid gloves scrutiny that Obama has received, since 2004, there is no doubt that Occasional-Cortex lusts for greater power, and, may well achieve it.

artichoke in reply to guyjones. | January 13, 2019 at 6:59 pm

She’s no Obama. Obama was a drug-head but he was also given high level grooming and care from a young age, and he almost never said a wrong word. He said uh uh uh a lot, you could make fun of him with enough effort and enough soundbites gathered over a long time, but in person he always came off very smooth.

He also had something special in his voice, up until he was elected president. I don’t know what it was and I didn’t notice it after he took office. But there was some special power behind his words. A historic figure.

O-C has none of this. She’s just a motivated girl who happened into a district that had been gerrymandered in her favor, who invested a lot of shoe leather and got enough donations to pay for the costs. And after all that she’s one of a gazillion congresspeople, not a senator.

I recently read something about Emperor Karl of Austria-Hungary, who succeeded his uncle, the 86-year-old Franz Josef, died in November 1916.
An Austrian general met with the young emperor, and was not impressed. He later described the meeting to a fellow officer: I expected to meet a thirty-year old. Instead, I met someone who looks like a twenty-year old and who thinks and speaks like a ten-year old.
That sounds like a damned good description of Ms. Ocasio-Cortez.

Prediction: cortez will get a boob job.

You’ll see.

Got to keep the loonies on the path.
