CDC Alert: Avoid All Romaine Lettuce
“Do not eat any romaine lettuce, including whole heads and hearts, chopped, organic and salad mixes with romaine until we learn more.”
Tuesday, the CDC issued an urgent alert warning consumers to avoid ALL romaine lettuce until further notice.
Outbreak Alert: Do not eat any romaine lettuce, including whole heads and hearts, chopped, organic and salad mixes with romaine until we learn more. If you don’t know if it’s romaine or can’t confirm the source, don’t eat it. https://t.co/NrFOIxG8hx pic.twitter.com/FuzkHv4bd3

More here:
From the CDC:
CDC is advising that U.S. consumers not eat any romaine lettuce, and retailers and restaurants not serve or sell any, until we learn more about the outbreak. This investigation is ongoing and the advice will be updated as more information is available.
- Consumers who have any type of romaine lettuce in their home should not eat it and should throw it away, even if some of it was eaten and no one has gotten sick.
- This advice includes all types or uses of romaine lettuce, such as whole heads of romaine, hearts of romaine, and bags and boxes of precut lettuce and salad mixes that contain romaine, including baby romaine, spring mix, and Caesar salad.
- If you do not know if the lettuce is romaine or whether a salad mix contains romaine, do not eat it and throw it away.
- Wash and sanitize drawers or shelves in refrigerators where romaine was stored. Follow these five steps to clean your refrigerator.
- Restaurants and retailers should not serve or sell any romaine lettuce, including salads and salad mixes containing romaine.
- Take action if you have symptoms of an E. coli infection:
- Talk to your healthcare provider.
- Write down what you ate in the week before you started to get sick.
- Report your illness to the health department.
- Assist public health investigators by answering questions about your illness.
Advice to Clinicians
- Antibiotics are not recommended for patients with E. coli O157 infections. Antibiotics are also not recommended for patients in whom E.coli O157 infection is suspected, until diagnostic testing rules out this infection.
- Some studies have shown that administering antibiotics to patients with E. coli O157 infections might increase their risk of developing hemolytic uremic syndrome (a type of kidney failure), and the benefit of antibiotic treatment has not been clearly demonstrated.
Basically:
Donations tax deductible
to the full extent allowed by law.
Comments
oh bother. we only eat romaine in this house.
but I love the bottom graphic. 🙂
This is such a crock. So the CDC found a couple heads with E.Coli and they torpedo an entire industry “until they know what’s going on”? Right before Thanksgiving, too. I smell a rat.
Are any of the rest of you old enough to remember the “cranberries cause cancer!” scare of, I think, 1958? They “caused cancer” from about a week before Thanksgiving, and didn’t cause it after about the week after New Year’s Day.
Very different thing. Nobody’s saying lettuce is bad for you. But somewhere, we don’t yet know where, one worker took a crap where he shouldn’t have, or didn’t wash his hands afterwards, and people are dying from eating the lettuce with that crap on it. Soon we’ll undoubtedly know where the problem is and can resume eating lettuce from everywhere else, but until we know which lettuce to avoid we need to avoid all of it.
Meanwhile one brand has tested their produce and found it clean. So if you can’t live without your romaine, see whether this is available in your area.
Wrong. Only 32 people were infected and none of them has died.
Yet.
They didn’t even find actual romaine lettuce with E. Coli. They have apparently questioned people that were ill and the common food item they all ate was romaine lettuce. So long as all they are doing to suggesting that people stop eating romaine lettuce I will make do.
The iceberg lettuce growers association is not behind this alert. Never. Not us. Nope.
This is another example of Big Government attempting to promote its importance in our daily lives and they get a lot of help from the Fake News Alphabet Networks. It’s about Free People being desensitized into getting use to never eating, breathing, or living without an OK from some Big Government Agency.
Please refer to the great Cyanide Scare directed against imported Grapes of Chile (http://articles.latimes.com/1994-12-31/news/mn-14948_1_california-grapes); a Country that the Poisonous Communist Media in the United States loathed because its Leader, General Agusto Pinocet, had the temerity to overthrow with the support of the CIA an elected Communist, Salvador Allende, from office after 3 years and ultimateLy help turn the Country into the Jewel of South America that it is today instead of a Shhitthole like Venezuela.
Ultimately, it was proven that the Cyanide found in JUST TWO FREAKING GRAPE BERRIES OUT OF SHIP OF 190 THOUSAND 18 LBS BOXES WAS THE RESULT OF CONTAMINATION IN THE LABS OF THE U.S. GOVERNMENT’S FOOD & DRUG ADMINISTRATION ADMINISTERED BY DR. FRANK YOUNG.
Inspecting food before we eat it; washing it before consumption; treating it properly by following recommended guidelines (https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/edible/vegetables/lettuce/cleaning-lettuce-how-to-clean-and-store-garden-lettuce.htm) and cooking properly, helps keep us eating healthy. WE DON’T NEED TO LIVE OUR LIVES WAITING FROM THE MEDIA OR BIG GOVERNMENT TELL US WHAT TO DO.
Actually it turned out he didn’t get any CIA support, because he didn’t need it. All he got from the USA was assurance that we wouldn’t stop him. He had the support of the legislative and judicial branches. While Allende had come to power legitimately, he was in the process of illegitimately entrenching himself, just like Chavez did later.
None of this helps with lettuce that has E.Coli inside its leaves. Inspecting and washing it won’t help, and who cooks it?
What’s sad is they found out where it came from but you don’t see that in the news. All the organic Romain should be safe but you know the stores are gonna be pulling that too this is all a scam
Where did you see that?
It is on the CDC website from the article they posted but you don’t here about it unless you go to their website and read they found the source
Where does it say that? You keep claiming it, but it doesn’t seem to be there. Cite your source, please.
I can’t help you read it is on their web site they also state it is the same strain
It is not there. If you claim it is, cite it or admit you made it up.
By the way you can clean the lettuce by using vinegar and water solution. I use vinegar for my veggies and cpap
How can vinegar & water get rid of E. Coli that is in the leaves? Lettuce is almost entirely water, and the bacteria are in the water that it absorbed while growing.
If it is on the surface, with most contaminated product is, unwashed hands, animal poop etc… it can be eliminated.
And what if it’s not on the surface? Vinegar will not help. You lose — and get sick and possibly die.
If it were on the surface they would say so.
Farmers still use cow dung
This is making me nostalgic for one of the staples of my formative years—the almost nonstop alarms about ordinary quantities of heavy metals in tuna fish.
You mean they’ve stopped warning about that? I stopped listening, so I hadn’t noticed.
