Prof Allegedly Offered Students Credit to Vote for Beto O’Rourke

Some people on the left have truly lost their minds over Beto O’Rourke.

Del Mar College professor being looked into after questionable Facebook post
Del Mar College officials said they were looking into a Del Mar College professor who was offering extra credit to his students.
A viewer sent KRIS 6 News a screen shot of what appears to be a Facebook post from Del Mar political science professor Adrian Clark.
It states: “I am offering extra credit for my students for voting beginning tomorrow! We must show up for Beto to paint Texas blue!”
Claudia Jackson, Del Mar’s executive director of strategic communication and government relations, released a statement on the situation this afternoon. “The College is aware of a post made by an employee on a non-College, social media site offering extra class credit for voting in the upcoming election. The message was not posted on behalf of the College. The College has clarified that no extra credit should be offered or granted for voting in any election.”

Well, he doesn’t actually say anybody gets extra credit for voting for Beto, so it’s not actually an attempt to bribe voters. He’s a jerk, but not obviously a criminal.
It’s implied. The effort was to paint the state blue. Do you think his intent was to give extra credit to students that are fighting against painting Texas Blue?
Obviously.
It’s also obvious that’s not a crime.
He can talk all he wants about how peachy it would be if Beto was elected. That’s 1st Amendment. He can bore his students to the point of catatonia with it. Still 1st Amendment. But he can’t pay them to vote for a particular candidate. And Extra Credit is payment, just not in cash.
As a former college professor, this is highly unethical behavior. The classroom is not a personal political soapbox. I was always extremely careful not to divulge my political leanings, especially since I taught Constitutional Argument & Research.
Bribing people to vote is just as illegal whether or not you specify how they’re to vote.
For that matter, so is bribing people not to vote.
So do students who cannot vote due to age, citizenship, etc have comparable opportunities for extra credit?
They just need to write Beto on a 3×5 card and mail it in. Yes, I am that old. 😉
But what bothers me the most is that this po-dunk place has an: “executive director of strategic communication and government relations.” Talk about bullshit administrative titles. Do they also have executive directors of non-strategic communication and/or private-sector relations? How about just saying press secretary or media relations officer. Or office manager. Or receptionist. Or coffee girl intern. I’m sure that one of these accurately describes what that person actually does.
