For Second Year in a Row, Trump Will Skip White House Correspondents’ Dinner

Can you blame him?

Friday, the White House Correspondents’ Association announced that for the second year in a row, Trump will skip the annual White House Correspondent’s Dinner.

From the Washington Free Beacon:

Trump, who has been at odds with the press frequently, also declined to attend in 2017. The decision made him the first president to skip the event in decades, and he instead held a rally in Pennsylvania.

Hasan Minhaj performed at the 2017 event, a comedian who had referred to Trump as “white ISIS.”

The featured comedian for this year’s dinner is Michelle Wolf.

“I’m delighted to announce ‘Nice Lady’ Michelle Wolf as our featured entertainer this year,” Talev said. “Our dinner honors the First Amendment and strong, independent journalism. Her embrace of these values and her truth-to-power style make her a great friend to the WHCA. Her Pennsylvania roots, stints on Wall Street and in science and self-made, feminist edge make her the right voice now.”

In now deleted tweets, the comedienne previously called Trump the “dumbest president ever” and said First Lady Melania Trump is as helpful to women “about as much as an empty box of tampons.”

Prior to winning the 2016 election, Trump was routinely skewered by President Obama and so-called comedian, Seth Meyers. As Professor Jacobson pointed out last year, the vitriol spewed at Trump by Obama and others compelled him to run for President, at least in part.

The press corps is actively working to dismantle Trump’s presidency and administration? Can you blame him for skipping?

    LOL

Yes, the self-serving, massive ego maniac stroking of the Lying MSM – by the Lying MSM – should be ignored!

CaliforniaJimbo | April 6, 2018 at 9:58 pm

He shouldn’t go. He doesn’t have time for an extension of the Acosta bully playground.
The press hates him. Who wants to dine with those who can’t stand him?
While part of me would love to see him skewer the presstitutes, he could watch it on tv and use Twitter to hit them hard

    Touche!

Trump has to work with registered Democrats enough in his job.

He doesn’t have to socialize with them. (Per a 2012 study, 93% of the “media” were Democrat Party members.)

And the really bad part of it is that the press could actually be *funny* about this whole thing like they used to be, instead of their current whining petulant screeches.

“Ladies and Gentlemen of the press, I’d like to welcome you to the Second Annual Donald Trump fan club meeting. If there’s one thing we can all agree on, its that Donald Trump makes our jobs so much easier…”

Don’t attend. Don’t treat them as professional correspondents/”journolists” as long as Acosta can attend

The mainstream media are complicit in the “progressives'” attack on the First Amendment and the Second Amendment. Their position is that non-progressive viewpoints and speakers should be denied an opportunity to speak, most commonly by the “heckler’s veto.” Trump is correct to ignore them.

Their position on the Second Amendment is that it doesn’t exist. That is, unlike the rest of the Bill of Rights, it only grants the right to keep and bear arms to government-approved groups like the Army and National Guard. That’s like saying that the First Amendment only applies to government-approved members of the press. This is nonsense, since the Bill of Rights is directed entirely toward individual rights. Again, I would rather see Trump go to the NRA convention than to a fancy festival of media moguls’ self-congratulation.

To be more exact on the Second Amendment comparison, I would only change “…government-approved members of the press…” to government organized and financed media (i.e. government owned media).

I would restrict the only free press to hand operated and hand typeset ink and paper presses. Make them live with that restriction for a few months.

Then let them whine about what the Second Amendment really means.

Under Obama the so-called journalists may as well have brought kneepads.

Trump could show up and announce he’d cured world hunger and they’d demand to know why he wanted to put farmers out of business.

Who actually thought he planned to attend this farce?

Barry’s Obama “Sucker*” Cult doesn’t need knee pads. They’ve got 3-inch calluses from doing that for the past 10 years or more.

    *”There’s a sucker born every minute.” – B.T. Barnum

I wouldn’t go either. Why honor them with your presence when they only vilify you?

This has traditionally been an event where the Executive Branch and Media observed a truce for one night to share a nice meal and good-natured ribbing for entertainment.

Usually the President would be roasted and take it on the chin like a good sport. So I was shocked when Obama turned that around to take cheap shots at Trump, an invited guest. It was petty and low class, and not only revealed how insecure Obama is, it may have been what motivated Trump to win the Presidency.

As for the WH correspondents, they have become a narcissist pack of partisan primadonnas and no longer serve any useful purpose. If the press briefings were eliminated, most people wouldnt even notice.

Who wants to sit with a pack of hyenas to eat?

Good.

The D’rats, the Libidiots, and the press have been trying to control Trump since day one by defining artificial limits to the office of the President. That’s what the blather about Trump violating “long-established norms” is all about. If they can define the job, they can specify what the President can and can’t do. And, as we all know, what the President can and can’t do depends on whether he has an R or a D after his name. At least it does to the D’rats, the Libidiots, and the press.

But this has no legal significance, nor practical significance if the President doesn’t cave in to it. And Trump has quite properly blown them all off, time and again. But they’re still trying. This silly “roast” childishness is one of those “established norms”. If Trump thinks it’s time to drive a stake through it, well, good for him.

Remember not long ago the Communist-Leftists defined holding to “long-established norms” as the height of insanity.

White house journalists are as fictitious as conservative Democrats. Why should Trump show up for a snipe hunt?

“Our dinner honors the First Amendment and strong, independent journalism.”

If this were true, the MSM would not be invited. The Contributors listed on the right side of this page would head the guest list.

True true true – so right.

RE: “If this were true, the MSM would not be invited.”

Good! Don’t let the left earn a dime of prime time coverage off their hateful comments about the president. If it was actual humor that would be one thing, but it’s not. They mean every spiteful comment that spews from their mouths.

Paul In Sweden | April 7, 2018 at 7:35 am

Who would want to go to the correspondents dinner anyways…BUT Not for nothin’ IF he was in a mind to do it, my fellow NewYorker & POTUS in a grand style could arrange to pack the speaker list with new media with the likes of the CRTV Gavin McInnes, Steven Crowder, Mark Levin, the Daily Wire folks Shapiro, Klavan, Knowles, Ezra Levant has expanded Rebel Media to have a bunch of American Correspondents that have real personality, and how about Fox contributor Dennis Miller, or hosts Tucker Carlson, Ingraham and Hannity. Now that would be a line up for a WH correspondents dinner that would make a whole half of the country that would never consider watching before change their minds and tune in to watch/download off of Youtube…

The Obama fellating media hates and despises President DJT. Can you blame him?

I dunno. So many liars in one room. Seems like a missed opportunity for President Trump to settle scores.

Maybe he could send some guys with baseball bats instead.

Conservatives have a great sense of humor. I think Trump should let Hillary step in as “Honorary President for the Night” at this event. She can get all dolled up [and hopefully she won’t have more of those falling episodes], and receive all the applause and standing ovations from the lib media. It will give the lib media an opportunity to experience their fantasy …. and if this is televised, I’ll be having a drink or two and will be laughing my ass off.

Why dignify these corrupt morons?

Wanna make a great joke: appoint a special prosecutor to investigate hillary klinton and obama.

I’m disappointed that he’ll “actively encourage members of the executive branch to attend”. Don’t dignify it.
