Russian lawyer meeting with Fusion GPS before/after Don Jr. mtg probably just *coincidence*

Remember the meeting Donald Trump, Jr. had with the Russian lawyer, Natalia Veselnitskaya? The meeting that Veselnitskaya arranged on the promise of dirt on Hillary Clinton, but which appears to have been just a means of lobbying Trump on the Magnitsky Act. The leak about the meeting set off several news cycles of speculation.

It turned out she had a connection to the firm, Fusion GPS, doing oppo research for the Clinton campaign. That put the meeting in an odd light, but it wasn’t clear whether this was a Fusion GPS operation.

When I covered it on July 13, 2017, I cautioned:

If there’s anything I learned from studying about and in the Soviet Union during college, it was that things were never as they seemed. There always seemed to be a manipulation and deception, whether for a specific purpose or just because they could. Kind of like the Clintons.

I also expressed my skepticism during an interview with Bill Tucker on Newsmax:

“I don’t think we need to go full conspiracy theory, but there’s something very unusual about this whole thing….Something’s very strange here. And then she arranges a meeting with the inner circle, or through somebody the inner circle of the Trump campaign. Something is just not sitting right here. And then it turns out that she may have some connection to oppo researchers for the Clinton campaign or the Democrats who were trying to get dirt on Trump. Something just doesn’t seem right here, and I think it’s worth asking a lot of questions because this doesn’t just happen.Somebody with her connections doesn’t just happen to show up at the doorstep of the campaign of one of the two major parties, who just secured enough delegates to win the nomination. It’s just very, very strange, and given her background and given what DOJ knew about her, something’s not adding up here.”

Fusian GPS, it’s been revealed since those initial reports, was paid by the Clinton campaign and DNC for its work on the infamous Dossier.

Now there’s more that doesn’t add up. Veselnitskaya not only had a Fusion GPS connection, she met with Fusion GPS before and after the Don Jr. meeting, as Catherine Herridge and others at Fox News report, Fusion GPS official met with Russian operative before and after Trump Jr. sit-down:

The co-founder of Fusion GPS, the firm behind the unverified Trump dossier, met with a Russian lawyer before and after a key meeting she had last year with Trump’s son, Fox News has learned. The contacts shed new light on how closely tied the firm was to Russian interests, at a time when it was financing research to discredit then-candidate Donald Trump….The June 2016 Trump Tower meeting involving Donald Trump Jr. and Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya occurred during a critical period. At that time, Fox News has learned that bank records show Fusion GPS was paid by a law firm for work on behalf of a Kremlin-linked oligarch while paying a former British spy Christopher Steele to dig up dirt on Trump through his Russian contacts. But hours before the Trump Tower meeting on June 9, 2016, Fusion co-founder and ex-Wall Street Journal reporter Glenn Simpson was with Veselnitskaya in a Manhattan federal courtroom, a confidential source told Fox News. Court records reviewed by Fox News, email correspondence and published reports corroborate the pair’s presence together. The source told Fox News they also were together after the Trump Tower meeting.

See, when it comes to that meeting, nothing was as it seemed. I think Tom Fitton at Judicial Watch is onto something:

Fusion GPS official met with Russian operative before and after Trump Jr. sit-down. Was it a set-up by Clinton gang?
