British Election Final Results: Theresa May pulls out slim victory
The disaster to Western Civilization from a Jeremy Corbyn Labour Party victory “may” have been averted.
Oh what a night.
The disaster to Western Civilization from a Jeremy Corbyn Labour Party victory “may” have been averted. The British Conservative Party lost seats, and doesn’t have an absolute majority in the House of Commons, but appears to have struck a deal with the Democratic Unionist Party.
The Telegraph reports:
Theresa May has set out her plans to form a minority government to deliver Brexit in the wake of a disastrous election night for the Conservatives.
Speaking in Downing Street after outlining her intentions to the Queen at Buckingham Palace the Prime Minister said the Tories would work with the Democratic Unionist Party to command a majority in the House of Commons after the Conservatives fell short of winning the 326 seats needed to govern alone.
She said: “What the country needs more than ever is certainty and having secured the largest number of votes and the greatest number of seats in the General Election it is clear that only the Conservative and Unionist Party has the legitimacy and ability to provide that certainty by commanding a majority in the House of Commons.”
Even before the Conservative-DUP deal was announced, Seth Barrett Tillman provided a good analysis of why a “hung” parliament, the term used widely in the media, was never likely:
… With 649 of 650 seats declared at this juncture (10 AM BST, June 9, 2017), the Tories have 318 seats.
The three primary opposition parties, Labour (“Lab”), Liberal Democrats (“LibDem”), and Scottish National Party (“SNP”), have 261, 12, and 35 seats respectively. That is a total 308 seats. Add to the 308 the 1 seat not yet declared, and that brings the opposition to 309 seats. Add 1 seat for the Greens, and that brings the opposition to 310 seats. Add 4 independents, and that brings the opposition to 314 seats.
318 + 314 = 632 (out of a 650 seat total)
That still leaves 18 seats for Northern Ireland (“NI”) to enter the mix. 7 seats went Sinn Fein (“SF”), the Irish nationalist party seeking to end the connection between NI and the rest of the UK. 10 seats went to the Democratic Unionist Party (“DUP”) and 1 seat went to an independent unionist candidate (in fact, a former Ulster Unionist Party or UUP member). The SF members will not take their seats and vote against the Tory Government—at least, they never have in the past. And if the SF members did take their seats and vote against the Tory Government, all that would happen would be that the DUP members and the independent unionist member would vote with the Tory Government. The likely result is that SF members will sit out any no confidence motion, and that the 11 NI unionist members will either not vote or vote for the Tory Government.
That leaves the Tory leader (Prime Minister May or her successor) with a 318 to 314 vote on a no confidence motion and a majority of 4.
QED: No hung parliament. And did I mention that DUP, on which the Tory Government is likely to depend, as a practical matter, is proBrexit. What a time to be alive!
How big a disaster would Jeremy Corbyn as Prime Minister have been? When he was elected Labour Party leader in 2015, the Daily Mail wrote:
Jeremy Corbyn is the most radical Labour leader in the party’s history.
The veteran left-winger does not merely advocate a return to 1970s-style socialism, the re-opening of the mines and nationalisation of all public utilities.
Mr Corbyn also opposes Nato, Britain’s nuclear deterrent and any controls on immigration.
He refused to support the Falklands War, backed the right of Iraqi insurgents to target British troops and, more recently, has defended Vladimir Putin, ISIS and Palestinian terrorists.
His views are so hard-line he even split with his second wife because she refused to send her child to the failing local state school in his constituency.

PRAISE. THE. LORD. But just barely. In the world of democracy, the only thing that sux more than our faux bi-cameral form of government is a parliamentary form of government.
The only bonus is that members of the pro-Tory coalition are also pro-Brexit. Or at least not anti-Tory.
A win is a win, but our Western fingernails are worn out already this century.
Note the key word in the headline:
VICTORY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Pyrrhic
Definitely! For the Globalist, Uni-Party, Soros types….
So “enough is enough”? Brits marched to the polls and voted for surrender? Now why again are we spending a fortune to defend Europe via NATO?
So you’re saying there will continue to be more terror attacks and cow-towing to Merkel and the EU…basically back to business as usual.
She had a 20 point lead when she called the election a couple of months ago. As recently as three weeks ago, it was still looking like a landslide for her. Apparently in the last few weeks she flip flopped on a couple of key issues and said something about wanting to increase taxes on old people or something, I’m foggy on the details.
I heard someone on BBC say last night the last few days of the campaign was like a Hillary Clinton meltdown for her.
The most interesting thing to me is that after Nigel Farage resigned from UKIP the party collapsed. Most people thought UKIP voters would align with Tories but it looks like about half the people who had voted UKIP in 2015 went for Corbyn and Labour.
Powerline did a piece a few weeks ago about some of the stupid things they started doing to blow a big lead, She brought up something about increasing taxes on retirees, and also Labour lite BS like Britainn’s version of the $15/hr minimum wage over here. Also, the millenials, like the stupid ones over here who blindly supported Bernie, claimed “wages and pensions” were their #1 priority.
Not to mention that May’s government showed a disastrous and hamhanded response to 2 serious terrorist attacks. Not that labour would have done any better, but it never helps to publicly display the sitting government’s incompetence just before an election.
So I guess the take-away is……..
Brits sent a message that the Tories and May had started in the right direction, but they will withhold their support if “Crazy May” and the “Elitist Tories” start up their stupid chits on the taxpayers again like the much hated EU “You’re a Peon” bureaucrats!
Corbyn sounds a lot like Bernie on steroids and the youth voted for him in droves, despite being the target of Muslim terrorist
These people have gone insane
Britain we knew, that once ruled the world, is dead
Was Robbie Mook her campaign manager?
Those of us with European ancestry should feel blessed that our ancestors had the courage to pack up and come to America otherwise we would be in that mess. Of course, there are those of us who are more blessed that most because our ancestors decided to put down roots in this mesquite and prickly pear covered piece of heaven called Texas.
Ralph Peters made that argument years ago that American exceptionalism was a product of Natural Selection. The superior genes were the ones that had the courage to get on the boat and survive in the New World. They left the inferior genes back in Europe.
WW1andWW2 destroyed the best of Great Britain.
It didn’t do us a whole lot of good either…
It is her fiduciary and moral responsibility to think of the people she serves: the People and their Posterity. Once she places principles before principals (i.e. special and peculiar interests, foreign and domestic), she will be be fine. This isn’t a game. Some, most people take life seriously.
It turns out that the Jewish vote may have put the Tories over the line. 77% of Jews voted Tory, delivering them four crucial seats in North London, which Labour otherwise swept.

No, NYT, the “haters” are still right. Corbyn’s still an anti-Jew, pro-Hamas, socialist fascist.
Actually it’s a lot simpler than many people think. May’s experience matches those of Malcolm Turnbull and Jeff Kennett: there are a lot of people who resent snap elections, especially totally unnecessary ones called by a government just because they’re up in the polls and want to lock in a full term before they have to face the voters again, and they turn out to vote against the government. In other words, hubris.
