Palestinians fume over barbecue taunt of terrorist hunger strikers, as hundreds drop out

On Thursday, April 20, 2017, we reported on how Israeli protesters barbecued outside the prison where Palestinian terrorists on a hunger strike led by Second Intifada mastermind Marwan Barghouti.

Terrorist mastermind Marwan Barghouti has organized a mass hunger strike by over 1000 imprisoned Palestinian terrorists. He announced the hunger strike in The NY Times, which initially refused to list in his bio that he was in prison for 5 murders, NY Times gives Palestinian terrorist Marwan Barghouti platform to announce hunger strike. Barghouti is considered a leading candidate to become president of the Palestinian Authority after Mahmoud Abbas, and the hunger strike is seen as a way to position himself politically.

The Wall Street Journal reported widespread Palestinian anger over the barbecue:

Palestinian newspapers on Friday condemned the barbecue as another aggression against the Palestinian people.“How can anyone barbecue with the smell of meat near political prisoners fighting for their country?” said Qadura Fares, head of the Palestinian Prisoners’ Club, which supports the inmates. He spoke at a demonstration Friday by dozens of Palestinians at Ofer prison, north of Jerusalem.

Various anti-Israel groups have joined the chorus of condemnation.

The Palestine Information Center, a primary center for anti-Israel propaganda, called the Israelis the “scum of the earth“:

That’s an interesting accusation from a group that uses an anti-Semitic caricature of a Jew as it’s Twitter banner image:

The misleadingly named “Jewish Voice for Peace” was also upset, referring to the “inhumanity” of the barbecue:

That’s pretty rich coming from JVP, which is one of the leading enablers of anti-Semitism by providing a Jewish cover to the anti-Semitic BDS movement, and perverting Jewish holidays to turn them into anti-Israel festivals:

JVP also has been one of the biggest supporters of convicted supermarket bomber Rasmea Odeh. Apparently a barbecue is inhumane to JVP, but stoking anti-Semitism and supporting the convicted killer of two Jewish students is no biggie.

Mintpress News, which frequently publishes anti-Israel screeds, accused the Israeli barbecuers of “torture”:

So how is the hunger strike going? According to the Times of Israel, at least 186 participants have dropped out:

At least 86 Palestinian prisoners said Saturday they were ending their hunger strike, the Israel Prisons Service said. They joined some 100 other prisoners who ended their strike on Friday. An estimated 1,200 Palestinian prisoners, mostly from the Fatah organization and including many convicted terrorists, are on an open-ended hunger strike announced last week in a bid to improve their conditions in Israeli prisons.

As part of the public relations campaign, Palestinians demanded the world “save” terrorist hunger strikers from their own hunger strike.

Now the PA UN delegation is seeking Red Cross intervention:

The Palestinian U.N. ambassador is asking the International Committee of the Red Cross to intervene in a hunger strike by Palestinian prisoners pressing for “legitimate rights” which he said are being denied by Israel.

If any of the strikers die from their self-imposed hunger strike, Palestinians are threatening a a new Intifada:

Leaders in the West Bank have criticised Israeli authorities for refusing to meet for talks with Palestinian prisoners who are hunger striking in protest at their conditions.Issa Qaraqe, head of detainees’ affairs for the Palestinian Authority (PA), warned on Wednesday the dispute could spark a “new intifada” if any of the striking inmates die….Palestinian leaders, including Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah and Palestinian Liberation Organisation Executive Committee Member Hanan Ashrawi, have also voiced their support.Israeli Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan told public radio on Tuesday that the striking inmates were “terrorists and incarcerated murderers who are getting what they deserve,” while Defence Minister Avigdor Lieberman said he wanted to take the approach of former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.Mrs Thatcher famously refused to negotiate with IRA hunger strikers in 1981 protests in which 10 people died.

There doesn’t seem to be a good way out for the hunger strikers.
