A Michigan judge ordered a hand recount of presidential ballots beginning at noon. The deadline to complete the recount is December 13.

The Detroit Free Press reports:

A federal judge early Monday morning ordered a recount of Michigan’s presidential ballots to begin at noon on Monday, and for the state to “assemble necessary staff to work sufficient hours” to complete the recount by a Dec. 13 federal deadline.

Lawyers for Green Party candidate Jill Stein urged the action in an emergency request, and U.S. District Judge Mark Goldsmith held a rare Sunday hearing in federal court. It lasted three hours, and Goldsmith issued a written opinion just after midnight on Monday morning.

Goldsmith said a state law requiring a two business day waiting period to start the recount likely violates voting rights. Stein has shown “a credible threat that the recount, if delayed, would not be completed” by Dec. 13 — the federal “safe harbor” deadline to guarantee Michigan’s electoral votes are counted when the electoral college meets on Dec. 19.

Can someone please clear up the legal questions on this. Lets say the 3 states she’s challenging dont get their recounts done in time. Doesn’t Congress then have the say in deciding if those electoral votes are actually counted or not? If so, wont they simply say- count those as reported initially?
Id love to hear a clear, concise explanation of what could actually, legally happen here if anyone has it. Can the left actually win (steal the election) on this one?

In each state, unless the Republican slate are satisfied by the morning of the 19th that they are not the state’s duly chosen electors, they will meet and vote, and send the results of the voting to Joe Biden for counting. At least in WI and MI, the governor will endorse their results and no others, thus pretty much guaranteeing that Congress will accept them. The Democrats may send in competing sets of votes, but without the governor’s endorsement it’s doubtful that a R-dominated Congress would accept them.

In PA it is in principle possible that the Democrat slate will also meet and vote, and that the governor will endorse their votes rather than the Republicans’, in which case Congress will have to decide which set of results to accept; naturally it will accept the Republican set, unless by January 6th it has become clear to all that the Democrats really did win that state, in which case they will do the fair thing and count the D votes.

Heh…losing by winning.

You get your hand-count (You win!), but its got to be done in time to certify it on the original date (You lose!…BIG TIME!!).

The notion that the purpose of the recount was to delay the result past the 19th, and thus somehow prevent the R electors from voting, never had any basis. It was a ridiculous invention of the paranoid right, circulated exclusively on the same sites that routinely imagine all sorts of impossible things, and breathlessly report them as fact, such as 0bama canceling the election. That you were so gullible as to accept it, and therefore to be amused that Stein didn’t get a wish she never had, reflects poorly on you and nobody else.

THEY ARE ACTUALLY RELYING ON HAND COUNTS? I WILL BE UNSUBSCRIBING SINCE I’VE ALREADY FOUND MALWARE ON MY COMPUTER. WHO WOULD KNOW BETTER THAN HER THAT THE VOTING MACHINES MAY HAVE BEEN HACKED.

I just love the smell of Wayne County in the morning. How many dead people voted this time around?
