Wasserman Schultz “Quarantined” From Dem Convention (UPDATE – Resigning as DNC Chair)

Debbie Wasserman Schultz is having a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad week.  With the revelation of her involvement—as DNC chair—in scuttling the Bernie Sanders campaign, she has been ousted from her convention role, and Sanders is today iterating his call for her resignation.

According to Fox News, a Democrat source said Wasserman Schultz has been “quarantined.”

Fox News reports:

Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz has been ousted from her convention role, Fox News has confirmed, after leaked emails indicating an anti-Bernie Sanders bias inflamed the left flank of the party.Fox News has learned she will not preside over the convention set to kick off Monday.. . . . Wasserman Schultz was nowhere to be found, however, on the list released by the DNC. And CNN reported that Wasserman Schultz would in fact not have a speaking role in Philadelphia, either.A Democratic source told the network that she had been “quarantined.”

Sanders, however, is not content with her ouster from the DNC convention and repeats his call for her resignation.

ABC News reports:

Sen. Bernie Sanders said Sunday that in the wake of the leaked emails from the Democratic National Committee its chairwoman, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, should step down.”I think she should resign, period,” as chair of the DNC, Sanders said on ABC’s “This Week.”“I told you long time ago that the DNC was not running a fair operation, that they were supporting Secretary Clinton,” Sanders told ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos Sunday on “This Week.” “So what I suggested to be true six months ago turned out to be true.”Sanders says he is “disappointed” by what the leaked emails show but “not shocked.”“Our campaign was about revitalizing American democracy. I want to see that incorporated into the Democratic Party,” Sanders said. “And I don’t believe that Debbie Wasserman Schultz is the person to be able to do that.”

Watch:

According to the Washington Post, Wasserman Schultz had the worst week in Washington:

Amid fears of a Sanders revolt at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, news broke late Saturday that Wasserman Schultz would not have any speaking role at the event — a remarkable snub for a sitting party chair. For Wasserman Schultz, that snub is simply the latest in a series of unfortunate events during her time as party chair. She has long had a fraught relationship with many of President Obama’s top political operatives and has seen her stock within the party drop precipitously during her tenure. This latest episode feels like the cherry on top of a very sour sundae.Debbie Wasserman Schultz, for watching your triumph turn to turmoil, you had the Worst Week in Washington.

UPDATE via Fox News:  Wasserman Shultz is stepping down from her position as DNC chair.

Debbie Wasserman Schultz announced Sunday she will step down as Democratic National Committee chairwoman, amid the fallout over leaked emails that suggested an anti-Bernie Sanders bias in her operation — a stunning development just hours before the start of her party convention. In a written statement, the controversial party leader said her first priority is serving the people of her Florida congressional district, and vowed to also campaign as a surrogate for Hillary Clinton.”Going forward, the best way for me to accomplish those goals is to step down as Party Chair at the end of this convention,” she said. She said she would still “open and close the convention” and address delegates “about the stakes involved in this election,” in her role as party chair. She will apparently step down at the end of the convention.
