Will 2016 contest be between #NeverTrump and #NeverHillary voters?

Professor Jacobson notes that socialism-embracing Sen. Bernie Sanders is enjoying a lot of “other people’s money” in the form of donations. He suggested that Sanders is poised solidify his position as the designated nominee should Hillary “fall”.

I wanted to add another perspective on the current state of the Democratic Party’s race. While some Republicans are initiating a #NeverTrump movement, there is a very robust and dynamic #NeverHillary faction among progressives.

I would like to highlight some of their sentiments, as these opinions are likely to go under-reported by our elite media.

The linked story reports that a Hawaii Democrat who resigned a leadership post with the Democratic National Committee in order to endorse Bernie Sanders, admitted she was warned against breaking from front-runner Hillary Clinton. The community organizers have been organizing against Clinton:

The movement is called “Bernie or Bust,” and it means just that: If Sen. Bernard Sanders of Vermont loses the Democratic presidential nomination, a group of his supporters will either write in his name in the general election or consider casting their ballot for a Republican. The one thing they certainly won’t do: Vote for Hillary Clinton. More than 50,000 people already have signed up at the Revolt Against Plutocracy, pledging to vote for the Green Party candidate in the general election or write in Mr. Sanders’ name if Mrs. Clinton wins the Democratic nomination. Other groups, such as Grassroots Action for Bernie, are taking to social media, using Facebook and Twitter to try to get the “Bernieorbust” hashtag trending.

#NeverHillary enthusiasts are actually vetting Clinton:

The video being promoted by this #NeverHillary voter focuses on the lowlights of Hillary Clinton’s career.

While most of Clinton’s infamous career is known to Legal Insurrection readers, I suspect many long-time Democrats may be on a fascinating journey of discovery.

Some progressives are now quite disenchanted with MSNBC. This gem also comes from a Sanders supporter who is in the #NeverHillary camp.

A glimpse of the collapse of Super Tuesday participation on the Democratic side underscores the lack of enthusiasm among that party’s primary voters (NPR via Tammy Bruce).

Note that Colorado is the only primary that saw an uptick in participation among Democrats, and Sanders won that state among 3 others. Super Tuesday was no “blow out” for Clinton, showing that a significant amount of Democrats are likely either #NeverHillary or leaning that way. In fact, many Sanders supporters point to his victories as a reason why he actually won the day:

Bernie won Super Tuesday! Let me explain why….It turns out that Hillary Clinton won all of the states she was supposed to win — and a narrow victory in Massachusetts (remember she won Mass. by 15 points against Obama and still lost the primary in 2008). But Bernie Sanders had resounding wins in CO & MN. Those two states are much more indicative of the states that are coming in the rest of the primary schedule. All of these Southern states were Hillary Clinton’s best states (by the way, also irrelevant places to have strength in for the general election). She’s used up most of her ammo and doesn’t even know what kind of trouble she’s in. Right before the voting, she pivoted toward the right again in anticipation of the general election. Big mistake. She can’t help herself; she lives and breaths arrogance.Tonight could have been the knock out punch if Clinton had won CO & MN. But she didn’t! She lost them big. Now, he has a $40 million war chest and favorable map in front of him. Feel the Bern!

All this angst seems a bit under-reported, as the media would like the focus on the Republican primary drama. And while there is plenty of news on the GOP side, it is worthwhile to remember that it isn’t all sunshine and roses among Democrats.

I suspect threatening #NeverHillary voters to change their minds will work out as successfully as bullying #NeverTrump voters to amend their election plans.

Will 2016 contest be between #NeverTrump and #NeverHillary voters? A lot will depend on how the Republican establishment addresses the “will of the people” as expressed in the primaries and caucuses.

They can see how well brute force is working for the Democratic Party’s elites.
