Fox and Comcast PACS play fair and balanced in political contributions

I wasn’t aware that 21st Century Fox, the parent company of Fox News, has its own PAC. I was even more surprised to learn that the Fox PAC gives lots of money to Democrats.

Colby Itkowitz of the Washington Post reported:

Fair and balanced: Fox PAC supports Democrats, tooFair and balanced after all?21st Century Fox’s political action committee is a generous contributor that shows little bias when doling out campaign funds. The media company, which owns Fox News and whose CEO is Rupert Murdoch, just last month gave Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) $5,000 and Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) $1,000 for their respective 2016 primaries, according to a monthly report filed Friday. And so far this cycle, the Fox PAC has given more money to Senate Democratic candidates than Republican ones. Sen. Ed Markey (D-Mass.) took in $8,000, Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.) received $6,000, Sen. Mark Pryor (D-Ark.) got $6,000 too and Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.Y.) accepted $5,000. All are up for reelection this year. The PAC gave those higher donations to two Republican senators, $5,000 to Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), who is in a tough reelection fight, and $4,000 to Sen. John Cornyn (R-Tex.). Both men fended off Tea Party challengers in the primaries.

Comcast, the owner of NBC and MSNBC also has a PAC, which gives slightly more to Democrats, though it’s close to even.

So two very different networks ideologically have PACs that are non-ideological.

That’s not surprising, because business is business, and the parent corporations are more interested in juicing the legislation and regulations to their corporate advantage, than they care who is in power.
