HHS secretary Kathleen Sebelius to resign

Health and Human Services secretary Kathleen Sebelius is resigning.

From the NY Times, Health Secretary Resigns After Woes of HealthCare.gov:

Kathleen Sebelius, the health and human services secretary, is resigning, ending a stormy five-year tenure marred by the disastrous rollout of President Obama’s signature legislative achievement, the Affordable Care Act.

Mr. Obama accepted Ms. Sebelius’s resignation this week, and on Friday morning he will nominate Sylvia Mathews Burwell, the director of the Office of Management and Budget, to replace her, officials said.

The departure comes as the Obama administration tries to move beyond its early stumbles in carrying out the law, persuade a still-skeptical public of its lasting benefits, and help Democratic incumbents, who face blistering attack ads after supporting the legislation, survive the midterm elections this fall.

Officials said Ms. Sebelius, 65, made the decision to resign and was not forced out. But the frustration at the White House over her performance had become increasingly clear, as administration aides worried that the crippling problems at HealthCare.gov, the website set up to enroll Americans in insurance exchanges, would result in lasting damage to the president’s legacy.

We’ve all known the bus was coming. Hope the wheels running over her don’t hurt too much.

    Why not ?

She earned it. And we paid her for it.

We sure did pay her for it:

“…..as administration aides worried that the crippling problems at HealthCare.gov, the website set up to enroll Americans in insurance exchanges, would result in lasting damage to the president’s legacy.”

Well, we can’t have that, now can we? Just screw the American people. The damage done to us is of no consequence to these bastards. The only thing that matters is this American Horror Story’s legacy.

    “And another one’s gone, another one’s gone…another one under the bus… .”

As my kids would say: “The wheels on the bus go round and round, round and round, round and round . . . ”

Well, if the wheels hurt her enough, maybe she won’t be able to go back to hustling infanticide.

Can’t wait to see who her replacement will be. Just when you thought it couldn’t get worse . . . . .

Supposedly it’s Sylvia Mathews Burwell, whoever that is. I was SO hoping it would be Sandra Fluke…

Henry Hawkins in reply to snopercod. | April 10, 2014 at 9:05 pm

That’s correct. She comes over from OMB.

She’s been the head of OMB…for a year. Before that, she’s mostly been in the NGO/gov world. She seems like one of those people who rise rapidly without any specific accomplishment…a good fit beside Obama.

Her persona, possibly chosen to contrast with those nassssty old Congressional Republicans and with the worn Sebelius, is that of an upbeat spunky can-do All-American girl, though possibly she is not aging well.

(Am I saying that the appointment is primarily image and damage control before the election? Absolutely…)

I though the brother’s Grimm ran the OMB.

I’m for having the Bros. Grimm run things. We’d do a better job. The big ,bad wolfernment would be axed; all government employees, especially NSA, would be required to use Rumpelstilskin as their password; and all agencies would be required to hire the shoemaker’s elves so work would actually get done without unions.

Hold on.

Obama has just announced that he’s extending the deadline of the effective date of her resignation.

Regardless of what you think about Obamacare as a whole, she should have been fired MONTHS ago.

She is taking one “for the team.”

Now they will blame everything on her and the King can pretend that he is free of guilt.

It’s like Lois Lerner remix.

pjm in reply to Exiliado. | April 10, 2014 at 9:19 pm

NO, she is one of the LEADERS of the team.

JackRussellTerrierist in reply to Exiliado. | April 11, 2014 at 12:54 am

Yes and no. He’s still got those huge health care rate increases and the “You can keep your doctor and your coverage” hanging over him. HE said those things, not Sebelius. And even the dumb shitz out there who wouldn’t know a Democrat from a wild jackass understand those lies when their coverage has increased by huge percentages and they have to change doctors…..if they’re lucky enough to find one that will take their crap coverage.

…..with no insult intended to wild jackasses. Oh……wait….

The “frustration over her performance”? She was doing exactly what she was told. She was awarding contracts according to WH dictates and pandering when she was told to pander. She should resign, but not for Obamacare. She should resign for prostituting herself and her reputation to Barack Obama.

JackRussellTerrierist in reply to Sanddog. | April 11, 2014 at 12:56 am

Yeah, all that, plus the fact that her mere presence in government is a blight upon this nation.

Oh!
And this probably is also stage setup for the upcoming show: enrollment numbers are not exactly what was reported.

This has been in the works for over a month. Notice that during Obama’s ‘victory’ lap re: Obamacare sign-ups, he thanked everybody BUT Sebelius.

Some college somewhere is about to end up with a really inept president.

Nice recycling of Brendan Eich’s ‘resignation’ from Mozilla.

Tell me again, why should we trust official statements from Obama administration ‘officials’?

JackRussellTerrierist in reply to Insufficiently Sensitive. | April 11, 2014 at 1:14 am

We shouldn’t. In fact, whatever they say makes a safe bet that the truth is 180 degrees the opposite.

Can anyone – anyone – cite anything – anything – obastard has ever said that was true? Anything? Anyone?

There is one thing he said which has proved to be true: “We are going to fundamentally transform America.”

JackRussellTerrierist in reply to snopercod. | April 11, 2014 at 1:00 pm

You’re right about that. But in terms of what happened with regard to this or that event, no, never, zip, zilch, nada has he or anyone in his administration, past or present, told the truth. They were to be the “most transparent administration ever”. The only transparency has been in the quality of their lies – transparent.

As to your example/quotation, I think “fundamentally” is/was a code word for “piss all over the constitution”.

marred by the disastrous rollout of President Obama’s signature legislative achievement

Quite an admission, considering that it’s the Times.

I want to see more resignations, Holder especially. He’s the brain there.

Now to find out what multi-million dollar a year job she gets with a think tank nobody has heard of doing things nobody will ever see in order to keep her from publishing a book detailing just what went on behind the scenes with the Obamacare disaster.

JackRussellTerrierist in reply to georgfelis. | April 11, 2014 at 1:24 am

She’s sure to get a soft, plush landing somewhere.

She has accomplished what she was hired to do, and that was to eff up the American healthcare system along with moving the U.S. in one giant leap along the path to a full-blown socialist country.

She’s managed to f-up Medicare, too. Medicare will no longer pay for annual physicals or PSA tests. “Not medically necessary”, they now decree. I had both yesterday and it’s going to cost me almost $500 when I get the bill. Whatever happened to Obama touting preventative care like he was doing a couple years ago so people wouldn’t have to get their legs amputated?

Komrade Sebelius has failed the collective. Off to an Acorn gulag camp for her. Her parting words:

“At this point, what difference does it make?’

“It’s not my fault. Bush left the world in a mess.”

“Some Wacko’s YouTube video messed up my Obamacare promos.”

“7.1 ACA enrollees, give or take 7 million (who might have paid the premiums and/or received confirmation and/or their accounts were hacked)are out there somewhere in the system.”

“Numbers don’t lie, but we are asked to. All in a day’s work.”

and despite her abysmal performance, this witch will walz into another high paying job, and/or tap her cush pension, all at our expense.

JackRussellTerrierist in reply to Paul. | April 11, 2014 at 1:09 pm

She did exactly what she was hired to do.

They will run a publicity game implying things are not so rosy for her, but when the dust settles she will be sitting high in some bloated catbird seat somewhere, laughing her a$$ off at the stupidity of the American people.

And from Allahpundit comes the comment to top all others:

“As for Sebelius, I’m nominating her right now to replace Brendan Eich as Mozilla CEO. She’s got plenty of website expertise. I’m sure we’d all be glad to see Firefox “benefit” from it.”
