Where have you gone, Daniel Patrick Moynihan

Israel has been under international pressure for its entire existence. That pressure was worse in the past than it likely ever will be again.

The threats from the international union of thugs, tin pot dictators, and anti-Semites, also known as the U.N. General Assembly, even went so far in 1975 to declare Zionism is Racism, a resolution later rescinded.

How would Barack Obama have reacted?

We have a clue from Obama’s interview with Jeffrey Goldberg yesterday, in which Obama, in Goldberg’s words, issued a “veiled threat” regarding U.S. support of Israel in response to the latest alleged international storm on the horizon:

…. if Palestinians come to believe that the possibility of a contiguous sovereign Palestinian state is no longer within reach, then our ability to manage the international fallout is going to be limited.GOLDBERG: Willingness, or ability?OBAMA: Not necessarily willingness, but ability to manage international fallout is going to be limited. And that has consequences.

This is nonsense. The U.S. has the ability to hold off the international mob more so now than in 1975, if it has the willingness. By making such statements, Obama — as John Kerry before him — calls into question U.S. willingness and thereby encourages the Palestinians not to miss another opportunity to miss an opportunity for peace.

Compare the statements of Obama and Kerry with that of Daniel Patrick Moynihan after the “Zionism is Racism” resolution:

The United States rises to declare before the General Assembly of the United Nations, and before the world, that it does not acknowledge, it will not abide by, it will never acquiesce in this infamous act….

Where have you gone, Daniel Patrick Moynihan, a nation turns its lonely eyes to you.
