The Savage of Sbarro

On this date in 2001, Hamas bombed the Sbarro Pizza restaurant in Jerusalem.

15 people were killed, including 7 children.

The bombing was celebrated as a great victory for Palestinians, including by Palestinian university students.

Ahlam Tamimi, the women who led the suicide bomber to the location, was a journalism student at Bir Zeit University:

A former Palestinian newscaster, Ahlam Tamimi, recalls the day she dropped a suicide bomber off at his target, then coolly went on television to report on the resulting bombing.

Tamimi was treated as a hero on Palestinian television:

Tamimi was released in 2011 as part of the mass prisoner release to secure the release of Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit. The release included the people behind many of the highest profile acts of terror, including the Butcher of Ramallah.

Tamimi remains unrepentent (video via IDF Blog, which has more):

The woman is a savage.  We shouldn’t be afraid to say it.
