Chuck Todd on POTUS seeking congressional authorization: “Quite extraordinary”

Chuck Todd on POTUS seeking congressional authorization: “Quite extraordinary”

Obama is going to seek congressional authorization for the use of force in response to Syria’s use of chemical weapons

It’s not clear how soon that will take place, because Congress is not back in session until September 9.

Obama made the announcement while expressly stating he did not need Congressional authorization.

Chuck Todd was impressed, because, you know, no President has done that in 30 years:

Really Chuck, really?

Bottom line. President Obama has not previously shown reluctance to exercise executive authority nor been shy about going around congress. He’s looking for cover.

Calling Chuck Todd a tool is an insult to any useful implement with a sharp edge. Let’s just call him one of the O Administration’s gutless toadies.

Bush sought, and received, congressional authorization to use force in both Afghanistan and Iraq. But since so many of the Dims who voted in favor of the use of force later regretted their votes (after the MSM and Code Pink convinced them that Bush’s “wars of aggression” were wrong), Chuck Todd now pretends (much like “yes” voters Kerry, Hillary, Biden, etc.) that those votes never actually happened.

Lefties like Chuck Todd really do live in their own alternate universe — where up is down, wrong is right, and you can turn lies into truth simply by tweeting out your own “improved” version of events.

He didn’t ask for authorization to attack Libya. This can only mean that opposition to his position is as we imagine but greater than we know. His rhetoric is failing and his press is wailing.

With or without congressional approval, congress WILL be Blamed. Would not be surprised at all, if somehow the term(s) “race”, “racist” enters the arena.

That is Barry’s M.O.

Other then that Chuckie is an asshole.

[…] today Obama tried to appear tough in demeanor but the central message is weakness multiplied. Big Media will applaud and protect Obama but world leaders and the sensible will see weakness tied to stupidity married to […]

Obama just “pantsed” John Kerry.

John Kerry is standing in stunned bewilderment wondering why Obama just pulled his shorts down.

Obama bravely stated “I have made a second decision” … to get Congressional support. He has now rephrased his first tough decision as “the United States SHOULD (not WILL, or MUST) take military action against Syrian regime targets”.

His first tough decision SHOULD have been a fast strong response, with no warning, if that was the right thing to do, and he has the authority, as he still claims. Instead he made bold public statements to look tough, then talked and talked and leaked … “flying it up the flag pole” (or poll), to see if anyone would salute.

But his trial balloon got shot down, so his brave second decision was to bow to “what’s best for our democracy”. Too bad Obama doesn’t read polls on Obamacare, public unions, amnesty, vouchers, etc.

MR…Yep, reminds one—nauseatingly—of the hairless chested Kerry in the ’04 campaign blathering about Iraq and,”I was For it before I was Against it.”

Thomas Sowell and(more recently)playwright David Mamet have it pegged that the gutless, feckless wonders of the Lib-Left Herd never do anything which would put them “outside” The Herd.

The whole world is watching, and they just got to see what happens when an American President threatens to go against the will of the American people. In the (very) long run, this is a good thing.

Barry has obviously crawled out on a limb, and needs help getting off it.

Plan 1: Say you will wait until Congress reconvenes, and then sometime between now and then, say that it is too late. Blame Republicans.

Plan 2: Call them back early. If resolution is approved/disapproved, blame RepublicansMcConnellConnel and Boehner were smart and had backbones, they would sit down with him and get something important, perhaps postponing Obamacare for a year. Right now, he needs them far more than they need him.

Hey Chuck — the patriots cut Tebow.

“I will seek authorization for the use of force from the American people’s representatives in Congress”

That’s not quite the same as seeking a congressional vote of approval: “the American people’s representatives in Congress” *could* be Pelosi and Boehner, ‘because of the recess’.

Obama issues a red line to Assad Congress.

How pathetic. These “press” sycophants have Barry’s nozzle buried so far down their throats all they see is his belly-button. And they think the view is EXTRAORDINARY!

Chuck…Ohhh Chucky….Yo’Chuckster…Ohhhhh Chuckoid…!

What a load of gooey matter. I see old Howdy Doody’s lips a’movin on your chubby face, Chuckums.

2002, GWB sought and got Congressional authority for war against Iraq.

2001, GWB was given Cong. authorization for war against Afghanistan and other terrorist-harboring nations.

1991, GHWB is given Congressional authority for the Gulf War (Operation Desert Storm).

Yeah, Todd’s right, it hardly ever happened in the last 30 years.

Recall which “recent” president didn’t feel the need to seek or obtain congressional approval before committing U.S. armed forces to aid rebel forces in a Muslim civil war which did not implicate U.S. national security interests?

That’s right, Barry Obama, in Libya, just a few short years ago.

Collin Hansen ‏@collinhansen

@chucktodd Did he say what he would do if Congress says no?

Denny Burk ‏@DennyBurk

@collinhansen @chucktodd No, and he walked away as a reporter shouted that question to him.

Isn’t in the Constitution that only Congress has the power to declare war? Hasn’t every wartime president done this?

Something I read on another forum..no idea if this is true but wouldn’t surprise me.

Oh by the way

Biden and Obama went straight from the Rose Garden to the Golf Course.

Standard “

Bill Clinton sought Congress’ authorization for the Balkan conflict. Congress denied the request and Clinton ignored them continuing military action well beyond the 60 days the War Powers Act allowed.

Sometimes you have to wonder if Todd can look himself in the mirror without cringing at all the spinning he does for Obama.

Most likely someone with a hold on reality has explained to Obama that if he passes the ball to Congress he can CYA himself and blame them for the disaster.

It’s extraordinary that O asked for Congressional authorization on *anything*.
